I've been lurking on this board forever hoping that one day we would get to stay at the Fort. We live in Texas and have never had the driving time needed to get to the Fort without cutting into our vacation too much. But now our son is doing the college program and since the focus isn't on the parks we're all loading up to take him!!! Finally getting to stay at the Fort! We cannot wait. Our son has accused us of being a little too eager to take him. He says we're using him as an excuse to stay there. Lol like we needed an excuse. Can't wait to be part of the "club". Makes dropping son off for almost 8 months just a little easier on us.

Well you could "Fly" to the Fort as well and just stay in a cabin.

Tell your son that you don't need a reason to go, but, what the heck, if one comes up that you can use... So much the better, right? Some day later on in his life he will understand. :)

Hooray! We welcome another Fort newbie (we were all newbs once). :yay:

How are you staying at the Fort, angeluna? In a tent? Pulling a trailer? Renting a cabin? Renting a trailer? Where have you stayed in past trips to WDW?

Personally I think a trip to the Fort to drop off sonny boy at WDW for the College Program should be paired with a return to the Fort to pick up sonny boy when his work term is over. Just sayin'. :confused3

I agree with Ed, this could easily be used as a reason for a return visit as well.

So when exactly are you going to be staying at the Fort?

I'm trying to get my DD to apply once she gets back into college. We would definitely use her if that happens. I have no shame when it comes to Disney discounts.

bama_ed we are long time weekend rv'ers. Started 18 years ago when I met my husband. Started with a popup, then tongue trailer, then 5th wheel, and now an older model motorhome (thinking about upgrading to a newer model with a slide-miss my slides lol). Love it. We've stayed at ASM, POFQ, CB, CS, and AKL. With a family of 4 and cost of fuel, free dining honestly has kept us from camping at Disney. We visit the Fort every time we are at Disney for either Hoop Dee Doo or sleigh/wagon rides. Want to send a big thank you to all of you that decorate so well during the holidays! Such a sight. Love RV communities, it's how you wish everyone was all the time.

Flametamr, I totally agree! I've already told him that he better be getting me some great presents this year! lol

That should be easy Angeluna. He can go to Cast Connections and get great stuff cheap. I wish I could shop there just once.

Yes my daughter would see a lot of us. I would be like " I'm sorry you have to work but we'll just hang out in the park. We'll be fine."

It's a different kind of trip, easygoing and no dining plan. Making breakfast ourselves everyday, bringing a sandwich for lunch, eating at one restaurant in the park, and maybe a Dole Whip or snack here and there is really different for us (we always get the dining plan). Using the Disney Visa Card, we get 10% off purchases at participating locations, so it'll be fun to compare savings.

I'm anxious to see how the times compare for boat launches to the Contemporary (and walk to MK) vs. Bus to MK.

Welcome and congrats! What a great experience he's in for! And good for you to get the opportunity to take a trip to drop him off! Having visited a few times and being RV'ers already, I don't need to tell you that you will love the Fort...but you'll love it!
