We took more than 1,500 pictures this past trip. I decided to try my hand at making a video scrapbook with them. Then end result is 57 minutes long. I'm extremely pleased at how well it came out. (My family keeps telling me I should send it to Disney, because they think it's as good as the planning video, LOL. Hardly, but it certainly is fun for us to watch.)

I used Pinnacle Studio 10 to put it together. This is an absolutely fantastic software package. I originally bought it to edit videos from the camcorder, but it really works well with still shots, too. There are even features for panning and zooming. If you're looking for an alternative to printing pictures or viewing them on the computer, making a DVD is a great choice.

I wish the file wasn't so huge, or I'd post it. Perhaps I can put together a short exerpt and post that later if there's any interest.

LOL. Wow, what a tease you are!!!! :rotfl2:

I did something similar with ProShow Gold (downloaded & purchased from web). I broke it into 4 parts so you can just watch part of it; & pick up at another part later if you like. Set to music. Lots of neat panning & zooming & swiping too. But tried to keep it to a minimum to look clean. Text added.
I made a DVD for each person on the trip with us. Everyone loved it.

You can watch samples (not mine) made with the software here.
http://www.photodex.com/ I like watching the contest winners.

I agree, these types of slideshows are great to have.

Dave,
I'd be very interested in viewing your photos.

boBQuincy,
Your photos of Yosemite were gorgeous, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

I just got the sony vegas software to make my movie. I really want my disney movie to be great so instead of have it be my first movie, I'm working on a 2005 year in review for the kids. That way I can make all my rookie mistakes before I start the Disney one.

Speaking of rookie mistakes, what are some of the things you learned while making your projects that you wish you would have known before you started? What worked well and what didn't?

Less is more. That really cool transition or effect that looked so good the first time doesn't look so good the 10th time, and even gets annoying by the 20th time.

Use zooms and pans sparingly, don't take your audience on a roller coaster ride (unless it's a show of RnR or Everest).

Include signs and backgrounds (or landmarks) to help define a time and place.

Get a good muse to inpire you, and to advise you and to review your work. My wife likes most of my creations but lets me know when one just doesn't work, and she is usually correct.

Have fun, and share your work with us! ;)
I like looking at what others do and learning from it.

A few things I try to remind myself when I am doing presentations:

Add music that helps to tell the story. It is amazing what a difference sound makes and how different the mood is depending on the music. I use pan and zoom a lot but control the level and speed to match the music. Placing a photo on screen for 6 seconds with no movement is an eternity. Using a slow zoom of 10 percent and an image on the screen for 8 seconds seems fast. An audience watching a DVD tend to expect movement to keep them entertained and engulfed in the presentation. Select images that when strung together tell a story, it helps the viewer become part of the presentation and not just a spectator.

Thanks. It gave me something to concentrate on and not think about being back in a 3-digit countdown again.

Here's another one. This one's only a few minutes long, so I was able to go with a slightly better quality.

Cinderellabration

Sorry, I'm officially out of disk space on my home page. This will be the last one I can post. :badpc:

Only one comment? Awwwwwwww... :( I was fishing for some affirmation. lol

Or are you all saying nothing because your mother told you, "If you can't say something nice..."

Keep them coming guys I'm looking for inspiration and encouragement to figure out use of digital video myself :goodvibes

Not at all Dave, I got busy for a few days (end of school term) and couldn't do much with Disboards.

Very nice presentation (I watched Cinderellabration)! I know how much time and effort these take, good job!

Just watched the first one. Very nice. I should give that a try as well. I have close to a thousand pics of the kids football games....

I've been silent because I've been bitter that yours are so much better than mine.

LOL, Thanks. And I know how you feel. I've been absolutely seething with envy ever since We-Luv-Disney posted this picture on the picture of the day thread.

Upload the video, full quality, to Google. It will take a long time, but even after they scale it down it still should be good quality. They have a desktop upload application you can use to send large files. I assume since you're on COX, it's cable so it shouldn't take tooooo long.

I just watched the first one. Very nice!! I like the music choices.

Now I'm wishing I did a longer one like yours covering each area more. That one would be for us to keep. But the shorter one I did is just enough to keep "others" interested & not bored. KWIM?

I found myself wanting to see some of your pictures longer, before it moved on. But then I suppose it would be TOO long. lol

Nice job.

Wow! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I hadn't found Google Video until your post. They'll take any size video free and provide you a link to share it.

Here's the full-length video (all 485 MB of it) courtsey of Google...
