After going back and forth for quite some time we finally got rid of cable and our house phone today. Cable was a no-brainer but we were hesitant about not having a home phone and just cutting cable was only a nominal savings. Anyway, we finally bit the bullet and canceled both today so we're saving $100 per month. :woohoo: More money for Disney.

I dropped our house phone this week and made changes to cable. We won't drop the cable completely, though.

Good job!:thumbsup2 $100 a month is nothing to sneeze at.

We cut out both a couple of years ago. And I think because we were not at the mercy of needing either, we were able to snag a great deal and are back in the land-line/cable realm. But now we pay for all three (cable, phone and internet) for what we used to pay for just satellite. I really enjoyed just having Netflix. And now I rarely watch any cable (except for news). But still enjoy Netflix!

Good for you. We cut our home phone well over a year ago and don't miss it. We also cut cable about 4 months ago...I didn't think I would miss it, but I really did so we ended up getting direct TV. With the promotion it's $36 a month for a year, then it goes up to $64. Dh's work pays for our internet cause he works from home so that is great. I also learned from a Time Warner salesman that they will pay for an early termination fee of up to $175 if you switch back to them. What we will probably do is in the year when the directv is set to jump up, we will switch to whatever promotion Time Warner has...as long as they are still paying the early termination fee for us :)

Just did the opposite. Got a paper in the mail for unlimited calling and 10mb internet for the same as what I'm paying for 1.5mb internet and no long distance.

Whoohoo! I'm now in the early 21st century with internet! Unfortunately, still in the 1990's technology though worldwide...

Just wanted to warn you to save paperwork and get names....a few years ago, my in-laws tried this- DirectTv took the cancellation fee out of her checking acct. and Time Warner wouldn't refund her because they didn't know what she was talking about- never heard of that promotion:confused3 and she didn't have anything in writing....

Congratulations and good for you! We did the same thing about a year and a half ago - about the same savings of $100 a month. We did spend $100 on a Seagate FreeAgent box that lets us stream Netflix and things off the network. With a program called PlayOn you can even watch Hulu, Amazon VOD, pretty much every streaming service. Totally worth it.
