FINALLY COMPLETE! 10/3/2010- But Why is the Rum Gone? Disneyween 2007

Oh gosh Crystal that is awful. I would be devastated too. This has happened to more than one person I know recently which is why I have been making discs of all the photos I take and save on my hard drive just in case. Still though, you will probably (hopefully) remember a lot of your plans and your trip will still be amazing!

My desktop computer is dead. I took it in to the people who built it, and they said the hard drive is dead, and they can't recover ANY of my files.

Guess where ALL of my Disney trip planning notes were?
O M G !!!!! :scared1: I am so sorry - I can't even imagine what I'd do. I'm backing up my computer to CD even as I type!

The upside is, you have your PTR to guide you through the planning you've done, right?

I've been reading your pre-trippie all this time and just noticed that we are going at the same time! Our gaggle is going from October 28 - Nov 1. :cool1:

You'll probably see us trudging around and toting our 10 month old (it'll be his first trip) and ALL of his gear.... oh gosh - I'm going to be "one of those type moms", aren't I???

Loving your pre-trippie so far!!! :thumbsup2

agh! that is horrid news about your computer. did you try taking it anywhere else? i have been in situations where one techy person told me all was lost, and then a different techy person was able to pull all my personal files off my drive. you never know!!

Although most of my trip info was on my desktop computer (ie notes I've been collecting from the DIS for YEARS) I do still have a lot on my laptop, and in various notebooks, so not all is lost :) And I really need to make a habit of burning all of the photos I take to cd every couple of months from now on!

Oh my gosh.. Oh my gosh.. Its like seeing a celebrity. She put me in her post. Rock on!

No autographs please :cool2: :lmao:

(I keep meaning to get caught up on your TR, btw, but I'm behind on so many! I think I'm all caught up now, though!)

Backup! Learn from my mistakes, DIS friends! (I keep thinking of the episode of Sex & the City where Carrie's laptop crashes, and all of her friends ask her when the last time she backed up her files was.)

At least all of the baby paraphanelia will make you easier to spot! :thumbsup2 I'm so glad someone is actually going to be there when I am! It seems like everyone else is going the week before or after!

I'm going to ask that they save my hard drive for me, and let someone else give it a try, just in case. It's worth a try!

(Title of this post dedicated to the preteen girl I heard whining that exact phrase at Animal Kingdom!)

It's possible that I just had a bit too much time on my hands today, but I got in one of those mega trip planning modes, and thought I'd figure out a schedule for our trip.

Now, this was an incredibly stupid idea, because:
a) We still don't know exactly how many days Kelly can go
b) We aren't sure where we're staying yet
c) We won't know if the Adv Club will be opening late on any days of our trip until just before the trip (The regular opening time is 7pm, but they often open as late as 9 due to special events)
d) I never follow my plans anyway

But hey, it was fun! And it gives me an idea of when/where to make some ADRs. It also reminds me that I MUST convince Kelly to get at least a week off, because it was nearly impossible to fit everything into 6 days!!! (I couldn't find a single night to do Raglan Road on, for instance! We may have to choose between it and Fantasmic!)

This schedule will no doubt change a minimum of 87 times before October, but it's a starting point, and it will give me a visual aid for discussing Trip Shenanigans with Kelly!

(And maybe I can go ahead and make some of the ADRs, and just change them later!)

I made the following plan on the theory that we stay at Pop for 2 nights, WL for 3, and AKL for 2.

So, the current, super rough draft of the plan is as follows:

Friday, October 26th

This is our arrival day. We obviously haven't booked flights yet, but this is with the assumption that we'll be arriving somewhere between midafternoon and evening.

We also don't know yet if we'll be arriving at the same time or not. Since there are NO direct flights from here to MCO, I may try to get a flight with a layover in Dallas, and have Kelly book that flight, too, so we're on the same plane!

-Arrive at MCO, do the dance of joy, catch DME to Pop
-Check in at Pop, and depending on time, grab something to eat, relax, and check out the resort. (Play Twister!)
-Head to the Adv Club!

Saturday, Oct 27- Day 1

-Wake up around 6:45 am (OUCH!)

- Grab breakfast from the Pop Food court, get dressed and such, and catch the bus around 8am for MK

-Arrive at MK, get tickets from guest services (if we don't pre-order)

-MK opens at 9am. Head straight to Pirates!

-Since we'll be at MK for MNSSHP later in the week, this is a good time to see anything that won't be open for MNSSHP (especially Capt. Jack's Pirate Tutorial!), or anything time consuming (like Hall of Pres.) that we don't want to use up a big chunk of our MNSSHP time on.

-Grab a snack/light lunch from Pecos Bill's or Pinnochio Villiage Haus around 11am

-Around 1pm, bus back to Pop for an afternoon break for nap/food/swim

-Around 3:30, catch the bus to Epcot

-Arrive at Epcot around 4pm, check Soarin to see if there are any Fastpasses left

-Around 5:30, hit the World Showcase, starting with Mexico. Check out the new Mexico ride, and enjoy Food & Wine Yummyness! (Note: Tonight's "Eat to the Beat" concert is the Villiage People, so maybe we'll catch a glimpse of them as we pass by!)

-Around 8pm, grab something yummy from the Boulangerie Patisserie in France (Katie and I have learned from experience that the lines here get CRAZY just before Illuminations, so this gives us a whole hour to get through the line and find a good viewing spot.)

-9pm: Illuminations! :woohoo:

-As Care and I learned in January, THERE ARE NO DIRECT BUSSES FROM EPCOT TO DOWNTOWN DISNEY! Remembering this rather important fact, we can walk from Epcot to the Beach Club (and shed a single tear over BCV being sold out :guilty: ), and catch the bus from there to Pleasure Island.

-Adventurers Club! Kungaloosh!

Sunday, October 28th- Day 2
-Wake up around 8-8:30 (Note to self: Check with Kelly to see how long it takes her to get ready in the morning!) Pack up, have bags sent over to WL, and grab some breakfast.

-Around 9:30, catch the bus to MGM (which opens at 9. I just don't see us making that!)

-Do the Backlot Tour (even though it sucks now), One Man's Dream, Muppets 3D, and TOT, if I can drag Kelly on it. Hopefully catch some Streetmosphere

-11:30 lunch at Sci-Fi. We've heard that the food is mediocre, but we both love the look of the place, so we want to give it a try. We'll probably just do appetizers and dessert, maybe spliting them.

-Around 1 or 1:30, catch the bus to WL to check in

-Get settled in at WL. Spend some time at the pool, hunt Hidden Mickeys, just enjoy the resort.

-From 4-6pm, get Pirated up for tonight's MNSSHP! (Grab food from Roaring Forks beforehand, so we can eat while we get pretty!). 2 hours may seem like a long time to get dressed, but I know I can spend 3 hours getting ready for a dance performance, and I know my pirate costume includes a lot of details, so I want to allow plenty of time!

6:15- Catch the boat to MK. (Pirates MUST arrive by boat!) Keep an eye out for dangerous sea monster beasties in Bay Lake.

- MNSSHP officially starts at 7pm. From what I've read, you can enter with your MNSSHP ticket as early as 4pm, but if it's anything like MVMCP, I'm expecting some entertainment or other Halloween themed stuff to be going on at the entrance for the start of the party, so I'd rather arrive then. Plus, 5 hours of party time is enough!

-MNSSHP lasts until Midnight. We know we want to see the parade (probably the later one- less crowded!!!), and Hallowishes. Otherwise, we'd like to focus on the special party events (last year there was a Villian show, dance parties, etc.), Trick or Treating, and finding a few characters in their special party costumes. And Haunted Mansion is a must!

-Since we'll probably stay at the party till midnight, AC is out for tonight. However, we may stop by the Territory Lounge for drinks before bed. (Yes, still in costume. I suppose we should order something involving rum?)

Okay, that's only 2 days so far, but this is LONG, so I'll continue in the next post! :thumbsup2

Continuing the itinerary from the previous post...

Monday, October 29 - Day 3

-Wake up at 6:30 (OUCH!, again! But today is AM EMH at DAK!)

-Catch the 7:30ish bus to Animal Kingdom

-DAK opens at 8am for EMH- yay! Head straight to the Safari.

-Do the Pangani Forest trail, and then grab another FP for the Safari, so we can ride again later.

-Get the to Everest! Be sure to get there before 9am when the park opens to the general public. Follow up Everest with the Maharajah Jungle Trek

-Back over to Africa to catch the train out to Conservation Station to see if there are any nifty medical procedures going on today, and to visit the llamas. Also, use other Safari FP.

-Try to catch DeVine on the way to the 11:30 Nemo show

-Around noon, catch the bus back to WL. Grab a LIGHT lunch (maybe split a personal pizza?) Around an hour to eat/rest.

-1:30, drive over to GF (Katie's car, to avoid spending forever getting there)

-2pm Tea at the Garden View Lounge! (If I'm remembering correctly, and 2 is the earliest seating! It may be 2:30?) The reason for the light lunch at WL when we have this scheduled is that tea + rich scones & desserts on an empty stomach does not sound like a very good idea! But then last time, we were STUFFED from the tea, so I don't want to eat too much beforehand!

-Last time, tea took us around 3 hours, so we'll plan to head back to the WL around 6pm (after some meandering around the GF for photos again).

-Back at the WL, lay around for a little while to digest, moan about how we will never, ever eat again, and then get pretty so that we can head to the Adv Club! (I'm hoping we can make it there for opening tonight, so that we finally have a chance to see ALL of the shows! I never seem to make the first few!)

-Sleep!

Tuesday, October 30- Day 4

-Sleep in a bit, and wake up around 8:45

-9:15 or 9:30 breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Yummy!

-After breakfast, head over to Downtown Disney for a bit of shopping.

-Stop back at the WL for a quick break before heading to MGM around 2pm

-Arrive at MGM around 2:30, grab fastpasses for TOT (if I can talk Kelly into it!)

- 3pm Stars & Motorcars Parade. I have NEVER seen the parade at MGM! Crazy!

-Spend a few hours doing Star Tours, the GMR, exploring the Streets of America, hopefully catching some Streetmosphere, etc.

-5pm late lunch/early dinner at 50s Prime Time. Bring on the Smores!

-Around 7pm, get seats for 7:30 Fantasmic!

-Take the bus to a resort (probably an Epcot one), to catch a bus to the Adv Club! (This would be a convenient night to stick Raglan Road in, but are we really going to want THREE sit down meals in one day? Probably not!)

Wednesday, October 31- Day 5- Happy Halloween!

-Up around 7am to pack up, have our bags picked up, get dressed, and ead over to Animal Kingdom for a couple of hours! (Alternate plan: SLEEP IN! Unti around 10, leave the room at 11am checkout time, spend some time hanging around the lodge. Either way, head over to....
-Animal Kingdom Lodge! Around noon to check in. Grab some lunch at the Mara, and eat in the room if it's ready to go! (Not sure yet if we'll book standard view to save money, and hope for a possible upgrade, or just bite it and book savannah view.) Spend a few hours enjoying the resort, pool, animals, etc.
-Around 4, catch the bus to Animal Kingdom, which has evening EMH tonight!
-Do Everest again, Festival of the Lion King, and TTBAB.
-Around 6:30, head back to AKL to grab dinner and get all Piratey again pirate: for Halloween Night at the Adventurers Club! (Hopefully we can Pirate Up a bit faster tonight!)
-Plan to catch the bus for DD around 7:30. (This plan may change depending on the AC opening late tonight, which wouldn't surprise me. If it does, we might hang out at AKL for a while instead to catch the storyteller or cultural representitive. Also, I've heard of there being some Halloween entertainment at DD in previous years, so if there is this year, we may head over earlyish to catch it.)

Thursday, November 1- Day 6
-Wake up around 7am for breakfast in the room, and animal watching. It may not be worth it to spring for savannah view, since we really won't have a ton of time in our room this trip.
-Somewhere in the late morning, head to Epcot. SSE is scheduled to reopen, all refurbished today! If it really follows the refurb schedule, it would be cool to ride it on its first day being open!
-Spend the afternoon enjoying Epcot & the F&W booths!
-The rest of the day is pretty much open!
-Try to make opening at the AC so that Kelly can experience the "normal" (non-Halloween!) shows!

And that's probably it! I'm guessing that Kelly will have to head home on Friday the 2nd, and I'm planning on leaving on the 4th.

I'd love to hear any comments, questions, suggestions, etc. on the plan!

127 days to go!

Ooh! DFW layovers! I live right near the airport! Planning on a couple hours between flights or overnight? I used to work at a hotel 1 mile that offers free 24 hour transportation. Let me know and I can hook you up.

Holy Snikes! And I thought I was a detailed planner ;)

A few comments:

1) Never underestimate the lure of the F&W Fest. We spent an entire day last year just drinking/eating around the WS. Then, we still ended up back at the F&W Fest almost every night, finishing with our favorite libations

2) You mentioned the MGM Stars/Cars Parade – Please don’t miss this. I’m not much of a parade fan, I really enjoyed the Stars/Cars

3) The latest rumors are showing the opening of SSE has been delayed to mid- November. I hope there is still a soft opening though, as Epcot is my fav park, and I’d love to be one of the first to ride the new SSE.

I’ll keep an eye out for a crew toting excessive amounts of mascots. Our paths may end up crossing during the week. Our early plans for that week:

- OCT 28th – Arrive at Ft Wilderness. Grab lunch at WL. Jet around on the Sea Raycers. Generally drink beer and bum around the FW/WL area. Maybe hit the Boardwalk at night

- OCT 29th – Epcot/FW Fest. Dinner at Le Cellier

- OCT 30th – AK. Dinner and drinks at AKL and Boma

- OCT 31st – FW Segway Tour (if available). MGM and maybe mini-golf or DTD. Head to Epcot for more F&W and dinner at Teppanyaki. HALLOWEEN night at DTD and AC (in costume)

- NOV 1st – MK and dinner at California Grill

- NOV 2nd – Keys to the Kingdom tour. Pick-up day to figure out what to do. End up in Epcot for F&W, and dinner #2 at Le Cellier

Hey Crystal, love your plans. I need to work on my plans as well. You mentioned about going to Raglan Road and needing to fit it in; I see an opening in your itinerary here (see red) If you grabbed dinner at Raglan road after you "Pirate Up" again, you can still be at AC if it opens on time or late as well as catch any of the halloween entertainment at DD while you wait.

Just a suggestion. Either way, I know you will have a wonderful and magical time.

I just got a text message from my boss saying "You can come in at 4 instead of 3 if you want", which are quite possibly the most beautiful words ever spoken in the English language. I have time to eat LUNCH! It's AMAZING!

Thus, I am eating while I catch up here!

Ooh! DFW layovers! I live right near the airport! Planning on a couple hours between flights or overnight? I used to work at a hotel 1 mile that offers free 24 hour transportation. Let me know and I can hook you up.

Awesome! I think it will just be the couple of hours between flights deal, but if it turns out otherwise, I'll let you know! (And yay for hotel people! We rule!)

1) Never underestimate the lure of the F&W Fest. We spent an entire day last year just drinking/eating around the WS. Then, we still ended up back at the F&W Fest almost every night, finishing with our favorite libations

It seems like every trip there's a park that I seem to end up at almost every day. In January, it was Animal Kingdom, and before that it was Epcot. I won't be surprised if we end up spending a LOT of time there! (Sadly, our original plan of staying at BCV would have made extra Epcot time a lot easier!)

3) The latest rumors are showing the opening of SSE has been delayed to mid- November. I hope there is still a soft opening though, as Epcot is my fav park, and I’d love to be one of the first to ride the new SSE.

Boo! I was really hoping it would re-open while we're there! I still take issue with it being closed for Epcot's 25th!

HALLOWEEN night at DTD and AC (in costume)

You know where to find us!

- NOV 2nd – Keys to the Kingdom tour. Pick-up day to figure out what to do. End up in Epcot for F&W, and dinner #2 at Le Cellier

Sounds almost like our Nov 2! Well, the pick-up day and Epcot parts!

Hey, good plan! As long as Raglan Road doesn't mind us showing up as Pirates!

Well, friends, it's 3am, and I've been sitting here for a few hours thinking about resorts. (Oh, you do it too, admit it!)

I added up what the 2 nights at Pop, 3 at WL, 2 at AKL would cost, and even figuring in AP Discounts, it isn't exactly pretty. (I'm used to going during value season, so regular season rates just seem... wrong!)

(Also, my N key seems to be stuck, so I have to poke it really hard each time, which is making this amusing to write! :rotfl: )

So, while I was at work today, I started thinking about moderate resorts. What if we traded our two AKL nights for 2 nights at a moderate to save some dollars?

My first thought was PO-R, which is my favoite moderate, but then I started thinking about CBR. I've never tried it, but have always wanted to, it's close to Epcot, and the theme fits in well with our whole Pirate thing.

The down side is, it's flippin' huge! The whole reason I disliked OKW was that I ended up in one of the farthest buildings from the food/shops/etc, and since I didn't have a car, I felt totally stranded out there. At WL, if you want a bite to eat, you take the elevator down to Roaring Forks. At OKW, there's a quarter mile walk to the bus stop, a wait for the bus, and a bus ride involved. (Unless you're luckier than I was, and have either a close room, or a desire to walk 15 mins!)

So, the spread-outtedness (Is TOO a word!) of OKW left a sour taste in my mouth, and when I pulled CBR up on google earth to compare, it looks just as big.

This is where I need your opinions!

Should we do:

1) CBR
2) POR
3) Give PO-FQ a second chance, since I didn't like it much last time
4) Remain at the WL or AKL- around $55 more per night, if my Fuzzy Advance AP Disney Math is right

or

5) Swolphin it up. I read on the resort board sticky that we can get a teacher rate of $169, but I'm not sure if that's pre or post tax. If it doesn't include tax, it would be about $190 with, which is less appealing. (For comparison, my guesses at AP rates are $130 for values, $185 for WL/AKL standard view) This does put us in handy reach of the Food & Wine Fest, but does mean no DME for Kelly's trip back to the airport, if this is when she leaves.

or, now that I think about it

6) Try CBR, ad cough up the extra $15-20/nt for a prefered room.

Opinions? Ideas?

Crystal, I say go for the preferred room. You have the time now to put a little extra aside, and then you don't have to deal with any unexpected messiness. Plus, then Kellylou will have an EXTRA special time and BAM! New Disney convert. And in the end, that is what is important, right?

:thumbsup2

CBR?? :scared: Sorry, my vote goes to POR. I've stayed at CBR a few times and I'm just not impressed. Of course, it's been years since I was last there and maybe things have freshened up, but I LOVED POR last Dec.!

I vote for POR!!! It's my favorite moderate, too, and it's just so relaxing there. Plus, I stayed at CBR last December and just didn't enjoy it... too big!

Unfortunately, I've only stayed at Pop, so I can't give you my 2 cents on that. I'd say though, that if money is an issue, a moderate is probably a good alternative to a deluxe. Actually, I wanted to comment on the Sci-Fi. I ate there last time, and the food was pretty good! I had some kind of chicken sandwich. I wouldn't say it's the best food in the park, but the atmosphere makes it worth it. I would also recommend the cheesecake. The. Best. Ever. They actually put caramel corn and some other kind of candy (M&M's I think?) on top. It is so good! Also, I don't know if you've been, but I highly recommend the cheese soup at Le Cellier at Epcot. Due to diet issues, I couldn't eat anything else there, but it was worth visiting for the soup and bread alone!

The Canadian F&W Fest kiosk will probably have the cheese soup (at least they had it available the past few years). I'm not sure if they have the pretzel bread at the kiosk though. As good as the cheese soup is, the combination of dipping the pretzel bread in the cheese soup puts it on a whole other level

My vote is for POR or POFQ. I have stayed at CB twice and while it is okay, it's nothing special either. It is HUGE and spread out. I stayed at POR in Sept for the first time (have tried many a time) and LOVED it!! I want to try POFQ next. Not sure why you did not like it, but I have heard such rave reviews of it and I saw it when exploring last Sept. It is very compact and the beignets are to die for!
