Finally committed and booked, but now I'm nervous/anxious

Why can't they just put a little sticker on it....this grilled chicken is safe, these veggies were not steamed in pasta water, these are simply scrambled eggs and bacon, GF bun available, etc
Not trying to be mean, but ...
unfortunately yours is NOT the only food allergy. Each allergy (Peanut, Nuts, Shellfish, Glutten etc etc) is very serious for the person that is living with those conditions. For each item they would have to have a full sheet of paper, with 6 point (that's 6 point:teeth:) font to list only many of the possible food allergies: with the safe vs non safe "logo" by each.
At the buffet as well as in the MDR's there are chefs available to consult with you regarding your food allergies.

One strategy to employ is to find out where your MDR team is serving lunch (and/or breakfast) for the day. You can go to that venue to have your head waiter help you select safe food for you. Our table mates a few years back did that and it worked out very well for both groups. ::yes:: That way you don't have to "constantly" list off your food allergies -- hey, this has turned into a time saving tip!!! :smooth:

Just finished the 12 night Mediterranean cruise. My wife said that the gluten free options were more limited on this cruise than the Bahamian cruises we have done. Seem like they had a harder time getting these supplies in Europe.

Interesting. Especially considering Italy in particular is light years ahead of us with gluten sensitivity issues! They have some restaurants where the ENTIRE menu is offered GF - not jut two or three selections like most places here.

Please note: I'm not denying your experience. I'm just observing that it's interesting a place where overall they are more aware of gluten issues the ship found less food.

If speaking with someone who does not speak English fluently, don't say "gluten-free". My MIL wouldn't understand that and she's lived here 45 years. She would hear "free" and think money, just like the Royal person you encountered. Say "no gluten" or just ask for a chef. Royal is very good at GF but you do need to talk to people higher than the guy refilling the eggs.

We saw a family at the MDR on Royal ordering their allergy-free foods for the next day, each evening after dinner. Seemed like a neat setup.

You need to get over the awkward feeling. At a buffet, ask for the chef. Say "allergy". At Disneyland a chef would have been be brought out, even at a buffet, if you'd asked. If the server says she thinks something, ask her to find out. You have to be proactive about your health. If you aren't actively protecting yourself, how can others help?

Treat your health the way you would treat your kids' health if they were the ones who had to be GF.

16 grand? Holy moly.

Exactly - "No gluten" or "without gluten". You can even get cards that say it in many different languages - I got them in Spanish, Catalan, French, and Italian for my cruise for the times I was off the ship.

Yep - Royal is very good. I ordered my meal the night before. AND they worked with me - a couple of nights I asked if I could have a caesar salad and a chicken breast at the same time and my server said "You want a grilled chicken caesar salad? No problem!"

I was always under the impression that it works the same in the MDRs on Disney.

But you do have to be proactive. Having a food allergy is nothing to be embarrassed about - MANY people have them. If you don't mention it and accidentally eat something that contains the food and you have a severe reaction, you have no one to blame but yourself.
