Finally a weight loss incentive I can get behind ...

I have about 20 lbs that I would like to lose, and I've been working hard, but still haven't made much progress. I finally told dh that I need some sort of incentive to keep me trying. I'm thinking he'll throw out a trip to the bookstore or to the gourmet grocery store an hour and a half away. But nope - he says that he'll go ahead and get another 100 DVC points if I can lose the 20 lbs and keep it off for one month! :scared1: So, I'm thinking that's some pretty awesome incentive. Throw your best weight loss tips at me!! I do a fairly consistent job of walking on an incline treadmill almost every day, and I'll kick it up a notch on that. I think one of my areas where I run into trouble is the fact that I like to eat. I tend to be a snacker, too. I don't really do breakfast because I don't like cereal/pop tarts/anything semi-easy to fix. Let me know what's worked for you in the past - I'd really love to add some points on here!

For the past 15 years, I have struggled with loss and gain due to a medical condition. It is very difficult for me to lose weight then.....I discovered Herbalife. FOr the first time, in many years, I am losing weight....I am soooooo excited!

Good Luck with your weight loss journey. I have found Weight Watchers to be the best weight loss for me. :thumbsup2

Congratulations! That's a HUGE accomplishment. Way to go! Now that I see this is a great weight loss program, I'll have to convince my hubby to get on board with it!

Definitely! Between motivation of the points, feeling better, etc it's been a good experience so far. loseit.com has been GREAT! This is the first time I've ever counted calories, and the most luck with weight loss I've had in years.

That's the key. Pick a reasonable number of net calories per day (2,000) and stick to it. No exceptions.

Calories In - Calories Burned = Net Calories

One of the best tools I have seen (and used myself) to determine net calories is a free smartphone or web-based app called "Lose It!". http://www.loseit.com/

You enter your current weight, gender, age, weight goal and your timeframe. That simple and it works. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time, then it is not a "diet".

My final tip for overall fitness is that before you eat something, ask yourself, "Did someone 1,000 years ago ever eat this?" Not as important as the Net Calories, but having an apple for 100 calories versus a 100 calorie snack from something that Nabisco markets usually makes me feel better.

:surfweb:

Thanks fro the site , it will help us to meet our goals along with hitting the gym for our may trip to AKV in May.

25% done. That's awesome. Keep up your hard work and you'll be there in no time!:thumbsup2

Thought I'd post a quick update - I have now lost 10 of the 20 pounds, and even more exciting (at least to me!) is that I now fall in the (upper) range of having a normal BMI. So I am no longer overweight!!! WOOHOO!!!!:cool1::yay::woohoo::banana::cheer2: And it really has been as simple as :teacher: calories in/calories out. Ha - go figure!

Check out myfitnesspal.com. There is an app for it too in the Android market. I've been using it for about 2 weeks now and I've lost 7 pounds! It is a great way to keep track of your calories.

You're halfway there!!!! DVC is on the horizon!!!

Eating right is the key.. you can walk/run/jog all you want, but if you put trash into your body, you will get trashy results..

Good luck!!!

Totally true! My doctor says the exact thing. He says that exercise is great for a healthy heart and to give your body great shape. But to lose weight it is all about the food you eat. Think of what it takes to burn 500 calories in a workout. You have to do that 7 times to burn off a pound. Exercise is the frosting on the cake for weight loss. (Did I say cake?!?) But it is not the foundation for weight loss. Another thing that I believe is that you need to move all through out the day.

Also I find that if I allow myself a treat on the weekends, it is easier to stay on track throughout the week.
My truck for getting myself on the treadmill is to only allow myself to watch tv IF I am on the treadmill. A one hour show with fast forwarding through the commercials (DVR) keeps me on the treadmill for 45 min.
Best of luck to you!

I do this to force myself on the treadmill every day too. Every night I DVR a favorite show. And I don't allow myself to watch it unless I am running on the treadmill. Great incentive!

Oh, as others have said, do not pass on breakfast. (It kick starts your metabolism.) Even if it is just yogurt and a piece of high fiber bread with peanut butter. Also, you do not have to eat the minute you get up. I get up at 6:00 am, drink a cup of soy milk and a cup of coffee, run for 30 to 60 minutes (or weights and workout video), get ready for work, pack a breakfast and lunch, drive to work,...then I eat breakfast around 9:00 am.

I've kept off about 15 pounds over the last year doing just that. But I need to kick it up a notch too. DD is getting married soon and I still have another 15 to 20 pounds to go. So it is back to the calorie counting. :teacher:

I have a similar motivation...FOOD! I wake up every morning absolutely famished. I tell myself that I cannot eat until after my workout. I commit myself to 10 minutes (minimum) per day on the elliptical and I need to go at least a mile in that time. I find that I cannot put together an adequate excuse to avoid 10 minutes of exercise time. After the "run", I eat breakfast. Usually, it is 2 turkey sausage links scrambled with 2 egg whites, a cup of Greek yogurt and a 16oz bottle of water or diet soda. It gives me almost half of my daily protein intake for breakfast alone and it is only about 225 calories! I'm not a coffee drinker so my morning caffeine comes from Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi.

Good motivation! But now that I am running, I find that I need at least a cup of milk or yogurt right before I run. If I don't I run out of steam in 20 minutes. I like your idea of breakfast! :thumbsup2

...Break a leg! I, too, have found Weight Watchers is best for me. I did it years ago and finally committed to it again...lost eight pounds in the first two weeks! I'm rarely hungry and certainly not starving...really enjoy it. I don't have the time or money to go to weekly meetings, so I do WW online.

I love the idea of "walking to the World". Mapquest says it is 994 miles from my door in Indianapolis to WDW, but I'll say 1,000 just to make sure I'm on property.

1,000 miles on foot or the elliptical ought to earn my plenty of extra WW Points! ;)

2149 for me. We are going to have to split the work up among the family if we want to male it by October. If not, we may stuck in mobile.

I'm really overweight & can't really add anything. I did read an interesting weight loss tool. Before starting...take a picture of yourself in a bathing suit or underwear and then give it to a good friend with a mean streak. Ask the friend to post the picture on Facebook, send to your email friends, etc. If you don't lose the weight. I've nor tried this because my family & friends would surely see a ghastly sight.

My DW is wanting to lose about 20-25lbs. She was cleaning out the closet and came across some old pics of herself when she was slimmer. She now is really wanting to lose some weight. She tried WW before and didn't care much for it. She works as a rural carrier for the USPS, so she spends 7 hours of her day sitting down driving and doesn't get much exercise.

She has heard of the Plan Z diet by Zola. Has anyone done this or had any success luck with it?

I DID IT!!!!!! 20 pounds down!!! I've now set a further goal for myself of 7 more, but I'm really proud that I got through that 1st 20! YAY!!!!

arthur06 - I haven't heard of that, but I will really recommend the loseit.com - that's what I used, and it has been wonderful. Good luck to her!

Congratulations! What an accomplishment! You should be sooo proud of yourself. So... are you going to get those points? (Or are you going to save them for the Grand Floridian?) ;)

Good for you. It's great to hear how successful you've been. :woohoo:So, when are you getting those points?

:banana::cool1::thumbsup2:dance3:

Congratulations!!! I just read the whole thread and you have helped inspire me to try to do what I have been telling myself I am going to do! Thats all I need right now is 20 lbs and I NEED to do it now before it gets to be 30, or 40 or...

This is my plan - I am spelling it out to make myself accountable for it.

MyDBF goes to work for 5 am and I get up with him to make coffee and to help his early morning transition. I am not going to crawl back into the nice comfy warm bed anymore. Instead, since I am already up and awake, I am going to have a cup of coffee, watch the news, do an on demand work out, and a bit of yoga. Then I am going to make a healthy breakfast and get to work earlier than normal so when 5:00 comes I can leave guilt free to enjoy the extra hours of daylight by walking the beach with my dogs. On rainy days, I will hop on my ellipitcal (that is nothing but a clothes hanger right now) and watch one of my fave shows. I will make myself a nice healthy lunch instead of grabbing Panera (which has the highest caloric intake of anywhere on earth) and try to only snack on good things, as well as eat a better balanced dinner.

Why am I tired already? UGHH!

Now just to follow thru with it!
