Just found this thread and read it through! Way to Go EeyoreEma! :cool1: That is totally awesome, I am so thrilled for you. It is very difficult to stick with a eating/exercise plan and we all have to find the right fit for ourselves. I lost 40 pounds more than 5 years ago (and kept it all off), it was one of those things where I started off just wanting to lose a few pounds and then all of sudden I was motivated to take off a few more and then a few more. I am sure you are going to be able to hit your new goal of 7 more. Please keep up us to date. :thumbsup2

Heathers4um good luck to you on your new weight loss plan! I know you have read the entire post, but it is a mental workout as much as a physical one! I too make sure to get up early every am and it really does help. :)

Thank you! I just hope I am not biting off more than I can chew and discouraging myself, although its more of a routine adjustment for me making time to do the exercizing. I am feeling more and more mentally prepped to do this as time goes on, soldifying the old addage 'when the time is right...'

I am in awe of your weight loss and that you have kept it off all these years! YAY you! :worship:

I think anyone who has tried to stick to a healthy eating/exercise plan has had to have a try at it more than once. I know I tried too many times to count before it actually stuck. However take it slow, somedays will not go so well, forgive yourself and start again the next day. I think that is the key besides the whole mental thing ;) ). When you accomplish even the smallest goal it makes it easier to move to the next one and you may even be able to go past what you originally planned like EyoreEma. I never thought I would be down to my HS weight ever again and that wasn't my plan, but that is what happened in the end. On top of that it was good for my health :) which is even better for this 44 year old body.

I'll be rooting for you! :thumbsup2

1) yogurt twice a day, in morning and evening before bed. Don't get the stuff with sugar substitute
2) stay away from diet soda or drinks or any food that has artificial sweetner
3)keep track of everything you eat. You'd be surprised how easy it is to cut calories by eating healthy.
4)drink lots of water, 8 glasses per day
5)seemingly healthy foods may be loaded with calories (orange juice)
6)bread = bad, pasta = poor choice
7)protein is good, limit carbs
8) breakfast is a must as it starts your metabolism, regular healthy snacking throughout the day keeps the fire burning. Just make sure total caloric intake is down.
9) Limit alcohol intake
My wife and I followed the above, while doing P90X. Got in great shape, gained muscle, lost weight. Never had more than 2000cal per day.
Good Luck

Congrats on losing the weight!!!

I've been using LoseIt.com & the LoseIt app on my iPhone. I agree with your recommendation, it's been an awesome app! Down 12 pounds myself in the past three weeks. Should reach my goal of 40 by 40 come August.

heathers4um - Good luck to you!! You can do it. It is definitely as much of a mental game as anything else. It would be so easy to just take a break from watching what I'm eating, splurge frequently, etc but it has really been mind over matter for me.

crzy4dals - It has all been a matter of watching what I eat and exercising. The loseit app is what has done it for me. I never realized how much I was eating before. It is amazing how things you wouldn't think had THAT many calories really do have a ton. I used to be a snacker and graze on the kids leftovers (goldfish, pretzels, etc) but that adds up really quickly. I've changed the way I cook - I use a lot less oil, etc - the weight watchers cookbook is fantastic. I've also been walking on my treadmill every day. Good luck - if I can do it, anyone can!!

mdsd8700 - Thanks, and WOW for your 40 that you've kept off! Awesome! I have definitely tried several times to lose weight before, but this time it actually stuck. I've realized, though, that this is going to be a lifelong change that I have to make. I could so easily gain it all back, but I'm determined to keep it all off (plus those next 7!) this time!

ChiSoxKeith - Good luck to you! Isn't it an awesome feeling to have it coming off?! I'm pulling for you to reach your 40 by 40!

For those who've asked when I'm getting my points ... who knows! It started out that I Needed that motivation, but over time I've realized that I needed to do this for myself, not just for the points. We will be getting more points, but we're not in a rush - we may be waiting to see whether they actually build the GFV, or we may look into SSR, or even adding on at our beloved BLT (my 1st choice). But I'm not in any rush about it - I just mostly feel really good to know that I did it ... and that I will EVENTUALLY get my points!!

The points may have been your initial motivator, but you really got something better in the end result, kudos to you! :goodvibes And when you evenutally do add on it will make it all the more sweeter. Be sure to keep us all updated! :)

I have about 20 lbs that I would like to lose, and I've been working hard, but still haven't made much progress. I finally told dh that I need some sort of incentive to keep me trying. I'm thinking he'll throw out a trip to the bookstore or to the gourmet grocery store an hour and a half away. But nope - he says that he'll go ahead and get another 100 DVC points if I can lose the 20 lbs and keep it off for one month! :scared1: So, I'm thinking that's some pretty awesome incentive. Throw your best weight loss tips at me!! I do a fairly consistent job of walking on an incline treadmill almost every day, and I'll kick it up a notch on that. I think one of my areas where I run into trouble is the fact that I like to eat. I tend to be a snacker, too. I don't really do breakfast because I don't like cereal/pop tarts/anything semi-easy to fix. Let me know what's worked for you in the past - I'd really love to add some points on here!

sorry haven't read any of the other post
Ice water (your body has to get it to body temp - so that burns more cals)
food diary - I hate it too but it makes you think about having to write it down, I had a bodybuilder tell me - your body is 85% diet & 15% execrise - so diet is very important.

My DW is wanting to lose about 20-25lbs. She was cleaning out the closet and came across some old pics of herself when she was slimmer. She now is really wanting to lose some weight. She tried WW before and didn't care much for it. She works as a rural carrier for the USPS, so she spends 7 hours of her day sitting down driving and doesn't get much exercise.

She has heard of the Plan Z diet by Zola. Has anyone done this or had any success luck with it?

Good for you!!! My wife did start the Plan Z diet and is down 15 lbs. We leave for BWV in 17 days and she is excited to go!

Congratulations! This is so encouraging. My family is trying to get healthy and fit. We put in a home gym and are changing our eating habits. I'm very excited to see our results and we continue to stay on course.:wizard: These tips are all great!

:guilty: OK so for the last 2 mornings, I have gotten up...and went right back to bed when he's gone to work.

How do I stop myself from doing that? I am all gung ho the night before, and then its gone by the time morning rolls around.

Maybe if I pretended I was at Disney....:cutie:

Use the Nike mantra....

"JUST DO IT!"

:rotfl2:

I'm the same way...I'd rather maximize my sleep time. But, I find that I feel so much better for the rest of the day if I just get on that elliptical and go for 10 minutes. I keep repeating "It's just 10 minutes....It's just 10 minutes..."

I've also told myself that I can go back to bed after the 10 minutes on the elliptical, but it wakes me up, gets me going and I'm energized for the day. I also use my breakfast as an incentive...no elliptical, no food! Eventually, I drag myself on to the machine.

I injured my knee last week so I had a self-imposed hiatus from the elliptical. Since we leave for vacation next week, I started back up today. I was not thrilled that my mile time was a full minute worse than last week:headache:. But, I've vowed that I WILL get on the elliptical EVERY DAY between now and next Friday, despite the fact that I have FOUR 14 hour shifts to work in that timeframe. Sleep will have to wait until vacation:rolleyes1.

Good Luck to all!...and to the OP...WAY TO GO!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Agree with pp Kristenrice, you have to make yourself stay up no matter how difficult that is. I started getting up early 3 years ago and it was no easy feat and I had already been running daily for a couple of years. Without giving you too much boring detail, my DS started HS and joined the swim team. The swim team has to be in the water by 5:30 am, which meant he was getting up at 4:45 and leaving the house at 5 am! I got up to say hello and goodbye but wanted to stay up so I could get an early start on the day. In the beginning it was very difficult not to go back to bed. It took all my will power to stay up! I finally got into a routine and it is one of best things I have ever done. There will be a day on occasion I go back to bed but I always am mad at myself when I do.

Give youself a little bit of time to "wake up" (read the Disboards) and then as pp said just exercise for 10 minutes. You will feel better and that will make you want to do it again!

Good Luck, I know you can do it!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

One tool I just found is a book called the 400 Calorie Fix by Liz Vaccariello.

It has lots of ideas (some are recipes, so are convenience foods, some are pantry staples) for 400 calorie meals. Since I try to keep it at 1,200 a day, I can just pick out 3 meals and I'm set. I prefer the ones that are whole/real foods, but if it's a busy day or you don't cook, you'll still find something - even restaurant meals or fast foods.

I like that it is laid out as a complete meal, but they give you the calories of the components. So a meal might have a componant that I don't like and I can swap it out for something else. It's one of the best laid out meal planning/ diet books I've seen (and believe me, I think I have all of them)

I like that it doesn't tie you into any specific "diet" and is so flexible.

This is great! I will go to Boarders to get this. We have started changing our diets and I need some help. I'm very excited about this.

I actually did it - reached my ultimate goal! 27 pounds down and now I just need to maintain! Woo Hoo! I'm feeling pretty good that I stuck with it, and actually I've noticed a difference in the eating habits that I now enjoy! I overindulged the other day and did not like it! I was happy to get back to my (new) normal way of eating!

So to those of you still trying to lose weight - good luck, and you can do it! It does take hard work and the desire to do it, but if you stick with it, you can make it happen!

Actually thought of you not that long ago and wondered how things were going. Glad to hear that you reached your ultimate goal and changed your habits, that is really the key; eating habits!

Enjoy your success and congratulations!! :thumbsup2
