so with week 1 and 2 under control i have now moved on to planning our road trip.... lets just say its not going too well

first i looked for accommodation that was in our budget £100 a night and found NOTHING in the keys at all !!

so i did a bit of a breakdown using the closest accommodation to our budget and estimated costs for other expenses ( spending money, fishing , car hire and fuel) this came to £2346!!

the following day i decided to look at some reviews for these closest to our budget hotels eg cheapest and yak is all that springs to mind!! i can do basic and im not overly fussy but bed bug reviews are a major no go , so not only were they overbudget they sound terrible:(

the next day i had been on the fla keys page and found a really great directory with loads of b& b and guest houses on there feeling optimistic i set to viewing each one and 2 out of about 60 listed fitted us in !! there were probably only 5 in total that allowed under 12s to book

so my options are

1 . hope that any of you lovely guys can find an accommodation in key west ( did hope to stay in key west so dh doesnt have to drive and can enjoy a drink)

2. stay all 3 of our planned keys nights instead of 2 at islamorada and just go to key west as a day trip ( not sure how central islamorada is for going back and forth) the drop anchor and islander resort both fit us in they are slightly over drop anchor at £135 a night but at least they have good reviews

3. stay at another key thats more central

4. don't book anything and hope for the best on the day

5. change plans totally cruise maybe... open to suggestions ?

tbh i wish i could cancel everything except the flights and start over !! i blame the guide book it led me astray !!:offtopic:

on a good note i logged back in to the esta website and they are all approved and i got some more dollars and my mum has agreed to ay for photopass plus for my birthday :thumbsup2

You will not find anything decent in Key West for £100 per night. That is why we didn't stay there.

Islamorada is central enough to be able to drive down to Key West and back in a day.

Ocean Pointe Suites, the place we stayed at in Key Largo, was lovely. It was very spacious and, although Key Largo is still quite a drive from Key West, it is possible to do Key West and back in a day from there. It would also mean less of a drive for your DH when he drives down from Orlando (or are you staying in Miami for a night, I can't remember?)

Also, Marathon might be a good option for you. There is the Holiday Inn Express and Suitesa there, which gets good reviews and runs around $125 per night for a suite (possibly less if you book it with one of the accommodation booking companies through Quidco).

yes i have seen lots of reasonable priced rooms we fit in at key largo end but i think we need to be a bit more central

yes we are in miami for 1 night between orlando and the keys that bit is booked

you seemed to travel back and forth the islands and fit lots in to your trip , did you find the driving between places ok

i have managed to find one place in key west that allows children and fits us in but its £155 !! suite dreams? it does have lots of excellent ratings on trip advisor but it is quite a way over !

and if we are going to go over i would rather a nicer hotel in islamorada as dh is doing a fishing charter so i will be on my own with all the kids

is there public transport between the islands??
