I'm thinking of taking DH, DD10 & DS8 to Discovery Cove in September / October.

My question is can you take your own pictures and film on your own camcorder or do you have to buy the ones that they take for you?

I wouldn't be taking part so would like to be able to film it all myself or take photo's.

Many thanks for your help :thumbsup2

Yes you can take all your own pictures if you want. I did take some myself but also bought one by the professional photographers of each of my kids during their dolphin swim.

My DD8 and I did the DC Dolphin experience last Sept. My DSis and DM didn't do the dolphin part so I had them in charge of taking pictures and video. They did a pretty good job. Our group was located near the edge so my DSis was able to go out (to a certain point) and shot some pictures. Of course, the SW photographers have an advantage as they are out in the water, facing you. I didn't buy any pix from SW and didn't feel pressured to.

Also, along with my digital camera and video camera, I also brought my reloadable, underwater camera with extra film. I shot 4 full rolls of underwater pix and should have brought more! :confused3 You can use your own camera (underwater or not) anywhere in the park Except while swimming with the Dolphins. But again, friends or family can take them from the shore, and the rocks.

Hope this helps-we had a wonderful time at DC and would love to do it again. It was a once in a lifetime (okay, maybe we'll have to do it again :cloud9: ) experience.

Here's some of the pix we took.

My fiance and I went to DC last April and were both in the water for the dolphin swim so we had to buy the photos...but in our 'group' there was a dad and daughter in the water and the mom was allowed on the rocks to take as many photos as she wanted they must of been about 3 metres away from us x

Yes, you can take your own photos of your family members in the Dolphin Swim, but they will not let you enter the water to get close. Their own photographers have no such restrictions, plus are quite practiced at getting good photographs of the people interacting with the dolphins, and so you may find it worth the price to buy their images, which are quite good. They also have the advantage of setting up poses with the dolphins. I had a long lens on a nice DSLR camera and the long reach was needed due to their location in the lagoon. Without that lens I would have had to settle for either the back of their heads or small [far away] images.

The first photo is a crop of one of my shots; the second is a pose taken by one of the DC photographers. I also suspect that they used a warming filter.
