Filming movies in your town

My home town and surrounding communities have had a surprising number of TV shows and movies filmed here. It's so weird to me because this area is Boring Nowheresville, PA. But I just found out they are going to film a TV show on my ex-husband's family farm and I think it's so cool!

My ex-BIL sold the family farm almost a decade ago, but I'm excited to watch this show and see the house I lived in! It's a really cool old house and a beautiful farm so i can understand why they want to use it, but like a lot of old farmhouses the layout isn't great so I'm curious to see how they handle that. Lol, I'm sure this is the closest I'll ever be to Hollywood.

Anyone else have a lot of stuff filmed in your neck of the woods? Ever been an extra? I have several friends that were extras on various movies filmed in Pittsburgh while we were in college.

Some states are offering various incentives for production companies to be located there. If you look closely at the credits for some TV shows, you will notice they aren't always filmed/produced in Hollywood anymore. I think some states also look at it as a way to diversify their economy.

I live in the Vancouver area and tons of things are filmed here. I am constantly playing “ name the filming location “ when watching shows and movies. I am always passing by filming locations. My kids high school was used for a few Disney channel shows And I often see stores, restaurants that I have been to in shows and movie. We are the land of “ Virgin River”, “ Story Brooke” “ Smallville etc and tons of Hallmark movies. 😂 Oh and recently Firefly Lane. I have not been an extra but know people who have.

:goodvibes Calgary's tv and film industry is really blossoming too. Some big ones that come to mind were The Revenant, Ghostbusters 2019 (filmed in part directly across the street from our house!!), Brokeback Mountain, Hell on Wheels and certain scenes from Game of Thrones. Many tv series are still on-going: Fargo, Heartland, Tin Star, Fraggle Rock and the major blockbuster The Last of Us.

A movie "Breaking the Rules" with Jason Bateman and Annie Potts was filmed in my little town of Rio Linda. It says it came out in 92 but I'm thinking it was filmed in 90. Definitely around the 4th of July because I was running the Little League fireworks booth across the street. Everytime they filmed, we had to shut our door as it was metal. They filmed at a hamburger/frostie joint. They put in fake palm trees, changed all the signs from Coke to Pepsi (or the other way around, can't remember now). When they were done shooting after 3 days, they came over and bought out our fireworks to take with them. btw, it's the same frostie Bill Clinton stopped at, got a cup of chili, took one bite for the cameras, handed it to security who promptly tossed it in the trash LOL. Another one with Demi Moore and Emilio Estevez where they were running from the law. They stopped at this out of the way market (I think to hold it up).

Nothing I've seen or been involved in right in my town. But definitely some some stuff in my state.

I do like reading the other replies, though!

I'm in NYC, so I walk past filming quite often. Last week, while running in Central Park, I saw people filming season 2 of Feud. I watched Ryan Murphy talking with Tom Hollander (as Truman Capote) as I ran by.

There have been different movies filmed in or near where I live and work. When The Proposal was filmed at the local airport my husband works at, he got a glimpse of Betty White and Ryan Reynolds.

Hubie Halloween was filmed in Salem and I was there when some of the decoration set up.

We live in a Chicago suburb and have had both movies and TV shows filmed in our town. We even had filming at the house around the corner from us last summer and at the grade school a block away. I used to work in downtown Chicago and would see filming all the time, including in two of the store locations in the building I worked in, the Monadnock Building.

Not too much gets filmed close to where I live. There was something just recently though but I can’t remember what it was. My mom lives in NY and there is filming all the time. Not too long ago they put out some requests to use the front of the house on her block. She signed up for it but didn’t get picked.

There was a stretch of time when the state of Ohio was trying to push for more film productions (tax breaks, etc), so there was a few years when a lot of movies (including a couple MCU films) were partially shot here in Cleveland. That seems to have faded lately. I think the tax breaks have dried up.

My house was toured as a possible filming location this year, but another house up the street was chosen (it’s funny, my house was part of a real estate development in the early 1900’s, so there are many similar homes with heavy chestnut molding, wrap around porches, ribboned oak floors, all with different options that were available at the time). We’ve had several network TV show episodes filmed here. My daughter got a selfie with Pete Davidson.

Our city (Wilmington, NC) has a film studio (Screen Gem Studios), so it's very common for films and TV shows to be filmed here. It's very typical to see streets blocked off, signs for "crew parking" and the like. Added bonus, we have the ocean on one side, a river on the other, and it's very scenic. Downtown has both high-rise buildings and some cobblestone streets and antebellum houses. So, there's a lot of visual interest.

There are occasional casting calls for extras. My kids haven't shown a lot of interest, but some of their classmates have been in different stuff. A typical casting call might read: "$25 a day plus lunch; $100 a day if you have a military uniform".

I haven't seen any celebrities, but local places advertise "Katie Holmes' favorite salad!" and the like (Dawson's Creek was filmed here).

Yes a few. The only notable ones were from the 90's. I knew some drama folks that were in one, and one of whom got to meet many of the main cast. Even got a signed headshot from Al Pacino himself! Hooo-ahh!
