DO NOT put it in your checked baggage. Carry it on the plane with you. The x-ray that they use on checked baggage is too powerful and will damage your film.
Make that a thank you from me too because I was wondering the same thing (I usually bring about 10 rolls with me). Guess I know what MOST of my carry on will be! How about those rolls that you finish with down in WDW, but wait till you get home to get developed?
I would urge you to buy a film shield bag at a good camera store. These bags protect your film from x-ray doses no matter how low or high. Remember, the effect of x-rays on film is cumulative. Put the film in the fielm shield bag in your carry on.
You can also just remove the film from your carry on. (Have it all in a clear ziplock & ASK to have it hand checked by the screener.
They are required to do so if asked by FAA rules. They even went out of their way to ask me last flight if I had any film. The xrays will damage all your film
I carried my film in my carry on last year when we went to WDW, but DIDN'T ask security to handcheck it... guess what? no pictures of my vacation... just our digital pictures because we had downloaded them into our laptop.... that's it... SO I learned my lesson... I'm having my film handchecked when we go in January.
But this will result in the screener seeing a large opaque object on their screen... and if they're doing their job they'll open your bag to see what's in it. Since this is a de facto "hand check", save yourself the cost of the bag and just ask for the legally guaranteed hand check to start with.
I've travelled for years with my film in an x-ray bag in my carry-on and never once had it stopped and checked!! I always wondered that same thing about what the security people see but no has ever stopped and asked to see it. That's kind of disturbing...what else could you put in a bag to pass through?!?!?
Good morning! Kind of off the subject but I read a tip years ago and this triggered my memory.
Pictures are priceless and cannot be replaced. Often, films get lost or pictures given to the wrong person at the processing center.
Tip: Write your name, address and phone number on a piece of paper. Take a picture of this on the first picture of every film. This way, if the film gets lost, whoever has it will know who it belongs to.
