Not sure what to fill in for DS who is at UWO.

There's a question about working and/or student but he's a full time student with a part-time and summer job on campus so do we just put him as a Student and leave out anything about the job?

Also there's a question about where you've lived the last two years and we pay the rent for him to rent a house with 4 other guys near the campus. It's a full year's lease each time but he still comes home when he can and we deem our home his permanent residence. Do we keep it simple and just put our address since he's a student? Or add the other address as well?

He's going to use his Birth Certificate and Photo Health Card as ID, as a choice stated on the form.

It's hard to know how to interpret the questions and do you think I can make a simple phone call to the Passport Office to find out!!?? :confused3 It's one long menu with nothing that applies! Hoping someone with a similar situation can offer some advice so we can get this done!

You put he's a student -- that's his "full-time occupation". When he goes through an airport and they ask "what do you do?" , he would say STUDENT.

The address you put is your home address -- that's his permanent address, and needs to match the address on his health card.

You can check out the FAQs on the Canada passport section. Even if he graduates and moves to a new permanent residence, it doesn't invalidate the passport. From http://www.ppt.gc.ca/support/faq.aspx?lang=eng&id=4002:

"A change of address does not invalidate a passport. Please cross out the old address on page 4 of the passport and write the new one in the space provided. Do not use correction fluid. If the space provided in the passport is insufficient, write the new information on a separate piece of paper and insert it in the passport."

Hi Julie,
My DS goes to University of Ottawa and even though he rents a place there, his permanent address is the same as ours. His drivers licence, banking etc all show this as his address. Ditto for getting his passport last year. He'll change his permanent address after he graduates and decides where he want to live.

Thanks for the information amw and Nancy!

Also, if I am understanding the new Guarantor policy correctly, anyone with a valid Canadian passport can be a Guarantor? No more Dr, Dentist, Engineer etc?

Does this mean that I can be my son's Guarantor; this is not a Simplified Renewal since his last one expired a couple of years ago, so I want to be clear on that. It says can be a family member and reside with him. (I know this is probably easier than I'm making it! ;))

Any person holding a valid Canadian passport can act as a guarantor.

I was the guarantor for my son's passport.
