DS18 has asked for gift cards for Christmas, which we will get him, but I wanted some "things'' for him to open too. I am stumped what to get though. Any ideas for the college crowd?

USB drive
wallet
favorite snacks/candy
earbuds for ipod

does he have a game system? We get used games all the time for gifts
DD is a Junior and she loves movies...the loonier the better, for when the gang has time to get together they find the strangest movies to watch
this will sound weird for a guy, but, DD has a squishy pillow, the kind filled with the micro-beads...the GUYS are the ones always taking it, seriously, whoever has it does not like to give it up. They sell them in fun designs like candy bars and stuff.
money tree...but one of the cheap $1 ones and paper clip cash to it
saw the thread with the Snuggues for college kids...as in Pub crawling :rolleyes1
Fun PJ pants
favorite team hat?

cards and poker chips
frisbee
earbuds
razor/blades
multi purpose tool

Pens
Pencils
Notebooks
Calendar/date book

Basically things you buy at the start of fall semester and use up.

movies
more gift cards in small amounts like $10 - fast food, starbucks, etc.
books
dorm room stuff - even if they're not in college yet, they like to get stuff for the upcoming year.

I gave my DS18 a birthday-party package of 4 mini water guns for Halloween -- he and his friends had a great time squirting each other (outside, I'd hope). Scarf in college colors. Fun calendar. New wallet to hold all those gift cards.

We have Netflix that he can watch on his computer so he doesn't need any movies. Some of the gift cards he asked for were for Starbucks and the movie theater in his college town (he is in college already). The hard part is that there just isn't that much room in his dorm to do too much stuff.

He has every game system available. He doesn't want to bring too many games with him because he knows he will just spend all his time playing them. His roommate has a 360 so they do have that and the kids on his floor all share their games.

I think the squishy pillow might be fun. He has a futon in his room so that might be nice for lounging on the futon.

T shirts and stuff from think Geek! My college aged DD is getting some stuff from here. and there is $10 off of 50 and $5 off of 25 codes. if you can't find them let me know I'll get my catalog.

She is also getting sleep pants
Socks! I think they are some sort of secret college monetary system cause I have already sent her socks once already this year.
Snuggie
stuff from Sephora-I know not applicable
CD's
Helmet for rollerblading and biking
point and shoot camera- has a very good expensive camera but wnated one to take with her when out with friends

I got my nephew Bucky Balls for his fun gift

If you really want something for a fun jokey gift get him a package of the red solo cups!

We also ut a hackey-sack ball in DD's stocking last year, they are in the computer labs a LOT and it is a convenient and easy way to get up and moving when they can.
We also set her BF up with a huge supply of paper plates and plastic silverware which he loved. They are in apartments tho.
Poster for his dorm?
Spencers may be a good place to hit
Does he use a wallet chain?
New hoodie?

I have a 17 year old and some of the "filler" type things he is getting:

A book of funny signs.
A little magic trick kit thing.
Slinky
Knit hat and gloves from American Eagle (they had a really good black friday deal and I got them for $3.50 each!)
...shoot, can't think of any more right now.

You could also do a stack of quarters (laundry, arcade), some room spray (if he lives in a dorm, it is needed), a bag of snacks.

How about making a snack/goody basket of different cookies, candy, chips, or whatever he likes that he could take back to school with him?

Both my kids had squishy pillow when they were at the UM. Good for back or arm support when reading in bed.

Macys had some nice ones on sale at southdale last week.

I LOVE the Think Geek site!!! I got DS the "Book of Secrets" and the stick man action figure. He will get a good chuckle out of those. I also got my dad the Beaker coffee mug (he is a retired chemist) :thumbsup2.

His is the first grandchild on both sides to go to college so he has been inundated with care packages :lmao: He is also taking the bus back and forth so packing space is limited.

Nerf games of any sort. Not sure why but they seem to be in lots of college dorms rooms.
Last year we bought my nephew flannel pj bottoms.
