I am a lover of beef and everything I hear about the filet at Jiko's is positive. My problem is the Mac & Cheese. Refused to eat it as a kid, as a poor student and during the difficult times while raising a family. Will Jiko's substitute and if so, what would you consider the best complement to the filet there?

I also dislike Mac and Cheese and was wondering the same thing. For me Mac and Cheese reminds me of my broke college days and hard times growing up. Sits right there with top ramien.

I never eat Mac and Cheese. I don't like Mac and Cheese.

Jiko's combination of pasta and outstanding aged African cheese, under a superbly grilled filet with a fantastic sauce is not Mac and Cheese.

I know that it wouldn't taste like Mac N Cheese, but I use my eyes before my taste buds and it sure looks like MnC. I will not eat elbow macoroni in any form as it just reminds me of M n C.

Well, I haven't been to Jikos yet but wanted to comment on mac and cheese. I was born and raised in South Africa and when I came to America - I was like WOW - mac & cheese in a box - COOL! BUT I was wrong - coz its very different - taste and texture. Mmmmm I really miss my mom's mac & cheese now - due for a trip home soon! Hope whatever you decide, you enjoy it :goodvibes :sunny:

I would have no doubt that the Jiko staff would substitute the macaroni and cheese for you. The menu here changes fairly regularily, so my suggestion would be to ask your server what he/she would recommend as the best available substitute to compliment the filet.

As someone who has had this dish, I can highly recommend it. It was a bit salty overall, but other than that it was fabulous! The red wine sauce that accompanies the filet is yummo, so make sure they don't leave that off!

The dish is just wonderful, but I feel sure they would substitute something else. As far as what.. your server could reccomend something good.

Let me just say this is not your garden variety Kraft Mac and Cheese. The smoky flavors of the filet, with the richness of the white cheese, and the red wine sauce blended together very well, much like a symphony. hope you enjoy your trip

Jiko is a very nice restaurant and I can not imagine that they would not honor a request to substitute the Mac n Cheese. I would think it's probably a common request.

You will be missing out on one of the best meals available at WDW, but I am sure they will substitute the mac and cheese for you.

I know DH wouldnt eat mac n cheese with beef. He is particular about what goes with what. I have decided to try Jiko as I keep reading really good reviews. I think I might try the beef with mac n cheese. DH will probably ask for potatoes with the beef, as would DS. Glad this thread was discussed :thumbsup2

I'm sure that they would substitute for you. I must say that you will be missing out on a great dish though. I have had the filet w/ mac & cheese many times and it is fantastic. There mac & cheese is not like your Kraft mac & cheese at home. It is so good. I like it so well that I asked for a side dish of it when we ate there last year. I never ever eat mac & cheese at home just Jiko's mac & cheese. :)

It is not Kraft Mac by any means--this is amazing. Do not think fake orange and elbow noodles here--you could always ask for it on the side or to taste it before you commit.

You wouldn't think mac and cheese could ever be so good. Definitely NOT like any mac and cheese I have ever had, and I have eaten plenty. It is so very good with the red wine sauce.

Also I was told by the staff at Jiko that it takes several days to prepare this mac n cheese because it is all made from scratch!! Enjoy:)

But, don't give up on this dish because of the mac n cheese, I'm sure they'll substitute something else or at least put in on the side. But, I can tell you like everyone else said it's not like "typical" mac n cheese.

I can also tell you I had the filet this past Monday night at JIKO and it was sooooooo amazing!! Probably one of the best, if not the BEST filet I've EVER had. When I went to cut into it I thought it would be moooing it was so soft...well was I in for a surprise as it was cooked perfectly medium (like I prefer) and it was sooooo delicious, the texture, the taste, aahhh...I sooooo recommend it!!! WORTH every penny (and putting the mac n cheese on the side if necessary) although I thought it was quite a complimenting combination, but if you don't like it then ask if they'll substitute something else.

We love this restaurant, it's on the top of our list! Don't forget their signature cucumber, tomatoe and onion salad! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I know that it is not your typical mac & cheese, has anyone substituted on this and if so, what did you get?

Apparently not anyone who's read/responded to your original question. Don't know where you'd get the telephone number, but why not call Jiko (mid-afternoon or so, not in the middle of the dinner rush) and ask if they can substitute and if so, what they recommend. Then you can relax - either change your restaurant/entree choice, or know in advance that your request can be met.

My DH can't even stand the smell of Mac and Cheese. When we went to Jiko's he had told me he would ask for a substitute but after trying the different appetizers which were wonderful, he decided to stick with the recommended mac and cheese. He loved it. All I got was a taste but it did not taste like the mac and cheese I make for the kids.

Ha Ha... I was the total opposite!! When we ate at Jiko in December, I only wanted the mac and cheese (the filet was great the time I had it before, but I really LOVED the mac and cheese at Jiko!!). So, they made a meal size version of the mac and cheese for me. My MIL ordered a meal that did not come with mac and cheese as a side (I think it was something like braised beef or spare ribs) and she was able to substite the usual side for the mac and cheese, so you should have no problem getting another side!!
