how do you figure out the tip for 9 people before you go.We are eating at ohans bomas and 50s prime time. its a group of kids(tweens) and two parents and trying to figure it out before we go. We are on the ddp

For my estimate I checked the menus, determined what we were most likely to order, and calculated what the bill will probably be. Then calculated the tip from that (before tax).

Boma and Ohanas will be easy because they are a fixed price (you can guess on the alcoholic beverages). For 50's Prime Time you will have to read through the menus.

Have a great trip :goodvibes

We will be a party of 7 and I was told that tips are already added in on the bill for any party of 6 or more...So you dont have to worry about it...unless you want to add more for great service...:thumbsup2

Eh, it's not really that the tip is 'included' in the bill for larger parties; it's that an 18% service charge is added to the checks of parties of six or more.

The OP's food is paid for by the Disney Dining Plan in which they're participating; however, the tip isn't.

so, now I'm confused...

I'm on the DxDDP. We're a party of 6 (actually 7, but one under 3 is free). An 18% grat. will be "added" to the bill, and paid by the plan (no oop for me)-correct?-... if so, am I ALSO expected to tip the general 15%+ in addition to the added service charge?

From my understanding, you wil be charged an 18% gratuity (for having a party of 6 or more) and have to pay it OOP.

No DDP regular or DxDDp has the tip included anymore--that's the big change from 2007 and earlier. Therefore in additon to what you have paid for the plan and since you are a praty of 6 or more you will be required to leave an 18% gratuity. You may leave additional if you want but you will get a reciept with 18% added on and you will be expected to pay that in cash or with your room key or credit card.
Just an FYI we figured the DxDDP for four(10+) for 12 days would run us an additional $1000 in tips.

It will be added to the bill, yes - but NOT paid by the plan.

Moving to the DDP board.

The semantics of hte gratuity is tough here. For allparties of 6 or more on the DDP (and all users of DDE), there is a mandatory 18% gratuity that the diner will be required to pay. It will be poresented to you along with the covered DDP meal plan.

So for the DxDP, you will pay the charge for the plan and then you will be presented with a bill for the gratuity on the actual price of the meal you ordered (for parties of 6 or more)

Confusing huh?

So, basically, you still need to pay for the tip oop, but since you're a party of 6 or more, the amount of the tip is calculated for you at 18%
