The NHL Flyers have a home game at 5pm today but they’re opening the doors at 1pm for any ticket holders who want to watch USA vs England on the jumbotron.

They did the same thing a month ago during one of the Phillies playoff games.

I agree. If I'm doing my math right, today's game doesn't really matter for the US when it comes to advancing out of the group.

Even if we lose, we still control our own destiny. A win against Iran and we go through, but a draw doesn't help us.
If we defeat England, then we still need a win OR a draw against Iran.
If we draw today, we still advance with a win OR. A draw against Iran doesn't help us.

This is all assuming Wales draws or loses to England. If Wales defeats England, it will get messy.

So, we may as well go all out and win.

ETA: A draw today and one on Tuesday means we're eliminated (we'd have 3, England & Iran at least 4).

In my bracket I have us getting out second and then beating the Netherlands in the round of 16 before losing to Argentina but who knows now. Any other team that gets our of that group I think we have a chance against.

Assuming we lose today and defeat Iran, here's how I see the table:
England: 6 (7 or 9 depending on result against Wales)
US: 4
Iran: 3
Wales: 1 (2 or 4 depending on result against England)

Granted, if Wales DOES defeat England, then it would come down to GD. So, you're right... today's result can take some of the pressure off Tuesday's game, but it's still a "must win" (more than today IMO).

We need a win. Not only for the benefits of a result like that for the group but the confidence it would instill in the group would be priceless. Plus than all the pressure would be on Wales and England. I did predict that Iran would win today even though I was rooting for Wales today.

Especially when the Flyers are down 4-1 midway thru the second period and end up losing their 9th straight game.
