I do know the history. And I already said it was a rabbit hole theory. Lay off.

Sorry, but as long as you act like your the #1 soccer fan in the country, you're going to get the criticism. I was following the US National team while you were probably still in diapers. Founding member of Sam's Army and the Empire Supporters Club, so don't make it sound like your swimming in the sea of soccer support by your lonesome. I don't need a bunch of YouTube vides anybody can look up to tell the story. I lived it. I've attended more men's and women's national team games that I can count anymore. An NYCFC fan you say? So an MLS fan for 9 years? Wow. I was there in Giants stadium fighting of the fascist security and ignorant fans who yelled at us to sit down. So when you say your a real soccer fan, don't go writing off the US team after only one game. They have yet to not get out of a group when they have won or tied the first game. They have a pretty good record in the World Cup against England. Don't let the Iran game fool you. Aston Villa could have scored against the porous defense. Will Friday be easy? Of course not, but as Saudi Arabia and Japan have proven, anything can happy in the World Cup.

I mean, @Buzz Rules knows that I’ll call him out, but how about not reading this thread (which is mainly about results - with some interesting side bars) until you’ve had a chance to watch the game?

Fair enough. TBH I do end up reading the thread after the games are finished for the day.

I’ve watched the USMNT since 1998. I followed the Red Bulls before NYCFC. I’ve played the game from the age of 5 until 18. I not going to have a measuring contest on which one of us is the bigger fan. I will always root for our national team until the end but poor decisions from GGG and our players in the second half will not have me put on rose tinted glasses. I do not underestimate Iran for anything (belief and patriotism can make people do amazing things).

Are any people going to follow soccer if they haven’t before after this World Cup?

I was posting in the other thread but a few thoughts here. It is unusual for such a small country to get the WC in modern times, ignoring any otherwise problematic issues for the moment, but the number of stadiums is actually quite low for a tournament like this. There are a lot of logistics outside of just the match and having too many in close succession in a fewer number of venues could lead to unsafe situations.

I'm still hopeful for the USA. I do consider that Wales game 2 points dropped because we should have put in a second goal in the first half and better adjusted to Kieffer Moore's introduction. No change to that introduction is a worry because it was predicable. The penalty was also easily avoidable. Gareth is old and slow but also cunning. He committed to be first to that ball and there was no need for Zimmerman to make the tackle. Let Gareth have the ball and defend. As it was unfolding I saw it coming and with his back to goal there was no need for it.

All that said I'm feeling positive about the England game and think we get a result. They are the better team but they also have a mistake in them. I'm really feeling good about the youth on this team and what it will mean for the home World Cup in 4 years (or 3.5 I guess).

So far on the field it's been a good World Cup.
