FIFA Confederations Cup 2009.

yeah unless they get a lucky group of teams to go against. That would be great!

Thought I'd pop back as there's no real other soccer here on the DIS.

In all honesty, USA got the tougher of the two groups, and needed a heck of a swing in the groups to get through, and they did just that.
Brazil will win the final (assuming they beat South Africa) I would imagine, but then I didn't think Spain would lose by any chance at all yesterday!

And imabrat, Spain are my team too (As you can see by my avatar) and I was disappointed they lost, but they just couldn't do it last night, and for all the posession it just felt like one of those days when they would never score :(

::yes::
I saw Pique's interview and he said something about the grass being screwed up. Spain is a great team, but Jesus they make some STUPID mistakes.

The grass wasn't perfect, but it was the same for the US!
Pique wasn't the problem last night tho, it was the likes of Ramos and even Villa who badly underperformed (Villa just didn't seem a team player!).

Hopefully they'll be back up to scratch at next years world cup, and Fernando Torres can get a hold of that trophy amongst lots of others next year :thumbsup2

I agree with Ramos, but not Villa. Villa had tons of shots last night, just not enough on target. I don't like how the offense is set up, one behind another. That's not going to work. I don't like Del Bosque either, he's not a very good coach.

That's the problem for me, he was too selfish, too greedy and not in the right areas. Torres also had a poor game. It's funny how the two of them, two of the best strikers in the world just can't seem to play together!

Agree on Del Bosque tho, never liked his style even when he was winning things at Madrid. Aragonés had it worked out well last year and let the Spaniards play how they wanted.

Although had Spain had Iniesta last night I feel they would have won - one of the best players in the world at the moment :)

Yes!!! U.S.A won!!! U.S.A is not the best team, but they played really well yesterday! Good defense!

For this competition, okay. It was only 8 teams. For the World Cup, they'll probably never make it past the group stages. I hate to say it, but the US stinks when it comes to soccer. Are they good at running the ball? Yes. But they still haven't learnt to break down the strongest defenses.
us does suck at soccer....sometimes. we're far too inconsistent. some days we could be world champions, other days we can't beat barbados lol.

Anyone watching?

My Spain played last night and won 5-0 to New Zealand. PARTY TIME!
I'm watching the ITA-USA game right now. The following convo just happened:

Me: "Ooh, the Italians are playing nasty today!"
Mom: "The Italians always play nasty."
Me: "No, mom. That's the French."
:rotfl:

Who are you rooting for?

the only thing i hate more than a frenchman on the soccer field is an italian. or a german. freaking michael ballack. i'm still pissed about last years euro cup.;)

sorry about the double posts. i read the thread backwards.

really? i think torres/villa is one of the greatest pairs ever. torres has def changed in terms of playing stlye since going to liverpool though.
i don't really like iniesta, to be honest. he's a good player, but i prefer xavi.

who do you mean we? i think i recall you being a spain fan lol so idk if you mean spain or the us?
i do have to say, the us is great at running the ball down the field. when they get a run, they make it and they make it fast.

has anyone else noticed that landon donovan is a whiney boy? it's almost cristiano ronaldo status. :rolleyes1

usa vs brazil on sunday, i think it is. if the us wins this thing i am going to be shellshocked!

i hate michael ballack with a violent passion. i hate him enough that it causes me to hate the entire german team, chelsea, and anything associated with either.

and i am a spain fan, but only when spain isn't playing the us. us tops everybody else.

ouch.
the germans can act like rear ends sometimes, but i guess so can every team. i only like chelsea because of jt and frank lamps.

i'll buy a chelsea shirt just to spite you! ;)
in your defense, you can buy a real madrid shirt.i cannot stand rm, the only player i will tolerate is iker casillas. <3 he's gorgeous, a great keeper, and a great person off the pitch. his only fault is playing for rm. ;)

i don't like real cause of all the controversy with them trying to break ronaldo's contract with manu.

i am mad about the trade, ronaldo should stay with manu.
but as long as rooney and carrick are on, i'll be okay

i can't stand man u anyway. i think they are the sleaziest team in the premiership. i just don't like the way they work.
i'm hoping and praying david villa and cesc fabregas go to barca.

manu is the jumping point for a lot of players. they're kind of a powerhouse, because all the young, good players (like ronaldo) go there until something better comes up like barca.
