I am planning on going this month to the one in Ohio. What time do you need to be there to be semi near the front of the line? Anything I should know before I go?

Hoping to get some great deals!!

There's one in Ohio? Where?

We always get there before 7 am to get a ticket. You then have to be in line with your ticket when they start letting people in the tent or you won't get in. I haven't been in a couple of years and each time I go, it seems to be a little different.
Make sure you take some sort of dolly for the milk crates. We didn't have one the first year we went and it was a nightmare trying to move around with 4 milk crates full of heavy dishes.

It is actually in Newell WVA(across the river from East Liverpool). Take a towel with you to wipe the dust off the seconds so you can see what marks are on them. All of my dishes are seconds but you could never tell. We eat nightly off of the small oval platters. :thumbsup2 My uncle is actually head of security, an older Italian man, super friendly, Nunzio.:lovestruc

I wish I lived close enough to go to this! I'm sure it will be a zoo but a fun zoo! Bet most of it ends up on ebay LOL

Do you have to be there the very first day, or do they restock every day? Would love to bring my mom, but we couldn't get there until the second day...

Thx!
Terri

They usually restock daily. The bulk of items are plates, bowls, mugs, etc., but sometimes you can get vases, pitchers and other decorative items that look great. Most items just have small flaws and are great for everyday use. Most of my everyday dishes came from multiple tent sales over the years. It is a fun experience and just waiting in line and talking with the other attendees is a good time.

Thx for the quick reply. I really think mom and I might try this (nothing like driving 8 hours to save a few bucks, haha...).

Here's a fun related story: My DGM is 101, still living alone, and a pistol, has fiestaware from "way back". My DM encouraged her to write a story about it, and she won a free place setting and was featured on the website's "My Fiesta Story" about a year ago or so. (I would love to say I'll inherit them, but I'm afraid DM has first dibs ;)

(Off to look for a hotel room, any suggestions anyone?)

:wave2: Hi Wildcat! I "know" you from the Fiesta board.

How funny, I have an Uncle Nunzio, to :rotfl:.

Even if you can't make it to the outlet during the sale (I haven't managed to do that yet) a trip to the outlet is a blast. The deals won't be as killer as they are for the tent sale but prices in the seconds room are great.

Have fun! I wish I was going.

There is actually a new hotel just down the street, darn if I can remember what the name is, will ask my uncle, do a search for Newell west virginia. In East Liverpool(within 10 min) is a East Liverpool Motor Lodge and a Comfort Inn. Mountaineer Gaming/Race Track has a hotel too if you like to gamble. :thumbsup2 It would be within a few miles of Homer Laughlin.

I have stayed at the Mountaineer Gaming Hotel and it is ok. They have a casino and restaurant. Last time I went we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which is right by the factory. It was actually pretty nice and clean and it wasn't expensive. You can look up Newell, WV for hotels. There aren't too many, so if you plan on going, you should book early to make sure you can get a room.

And if you really want the full experience, the Tri-State Pottery Festival begins later this week (they're setting up right now) in East Liverpool, Ohio. Google "East Liverpool Review" they should have a list of activities. When I was a kid (a long time ago), all the local potteries would participate in the pottery olympics- they would have races carrying trays of pottery (you wouldn't believe the broken dishes) So, if you're coming to the outlet, which is directly across the river in West Virginia, you should check out the pottery festival. Incidentally, the mascot for East Liverpool schools is "Potter Pete" a pottery kiln. East Liverpool Potters.

Is there a day and time that's least busy at the tent sale? I was hoping to take my chances and go on the last afternoon but I've only read trip reports from people who have gone first thing in the morning.
