Field's to Macy's

Babar, I respectfully disagree with you. The few Macy's stores I've been in have been quite shabby; and their Sunday ads in the Sun Sentinal (my parents live in Delray Beach, FL) are very cheap and tacky.

I am sick about the name change - Macy's has ignored all pleas from Chicagoans not to change the name. Chicagoans are funny like that, we are a big city, Fields is Chicago and to mess with one of our own is not going to go over well. I realize that people won't boycott Macy's because (if left unchanged) the State Street store is extraordinary - I just wish there was a way to let Macy's know how much Fields means to us.

I've only been to the one in New York, so I could be wrong. There are petitions and stuff now, contact the news websites, they are recording comments received.....let Daley know!! :rotfl:

Come on Chicago...save our name!!!

Ava, I work at L.S.Ayers here in Indianapolis. They haven't changed the name yet.

Galahad, have they already changed the name at Castleton?

They changed the name of the Lazarus to Macy's already, yes.

Edited to add - they haven't changed the name of Ayres yet. My understanding that they were just going to close it - I think next year.....

At the malls that had more than one store, like Macy's and Ayres, or Lazarus, they are closing one and keeping the other. Castleton and Greenwood. Maybe another, I had a list somewhere.

People are always asking what's going to happen, when they can use their Macy's credit cards, when the name will change, etc. I'm told not to expect anything much until March.

You know what the issue is here is Chicago we are VERY brand loyal...

We have Jewel and Dominicks, not albertsons and safeway..We have Fannie May not whoever else bought them...so Ferderated is claiming that they did consumer research that backed the name change..where did they research this I would like to know.

Okay I am offically done complaining.

Alot of it is just Chicago pride. :) I mean, Macy's is associated with NYC, Field's is with Chicago......It's an insult. :badpc: :teeth:

LOL, I wonder if the field research was with the store managers that wanted to continue to have a job. :teeth:

Babar are you in the city proper? ( I work from home now) if you are go march your self over to that store on state and chain yourself to the front doors..only eat frango mints until Federated changes their mind. :teeth:

Daley is philisophical about the whole thing..please he got something in return for the city to keep silent.

yeah, I'm about a 7 minute "L" ride from state street......I'll be wearing my t-shirt with the Chicago flag on the back and macy's on the front with a big X through it!! :rotfl:

And yes, Daley is letting me down on this one. :teeth:

I am looking at Field's on State right now out my window' my view is somewhat obsured by the 5th Floor at City Hall. Babar - you want to meet under the clock?

Ava - do you remember when Safeway first bought out Dominick's and they changed all their house brand items to Safeway and NO ONE bought them? You said if perfectly, Chicagoans are very loyal to their brands - so Macy's you better watch out

Yes it is an insult. When May bought Ayres, they did some things to the origiginal Ayres department store in downtown Indy that upset a lot of their potential customers. They eventually "un-did" the damage (they changed so historical architectural features) and smoothed it over. It doesn't seem that Macy's is being quite so smart about it. The Westfield shopping mall company did something similar in Florida a few years ago - buying up established shopping malls with a local following and renaming and rebranding all of the "Westfield". There was a lot of resistance in the Tampa area when they did that and they eventually left something of the local name in the new name of the malls. It all seems pretty short sighted.

Now everyone just calls Comisky "Sox Park". No one from here can utter the "other" name. I still call the United Center the Stadium. :rotfl:

Allstate the Rosemont Horizon.

I'm going to listen to Roe on WLS in a little bit. He will be having a fit and it will be very entertaining.

In a good way

Edited to add..Cindy, great minds think alike and I'm only 33 so I bet your not old :flower:

Oprah must be sad. Didn't she really like Marshall Fields? We had a store similar to Fields, I think they were owned by the same company at one point, called Frederick and Nelson in Seattle. They carried Frangos and were in a beautiful old historic Art Deco building in the downtown area. They saved the historic building, but not F&N's. I had always wanted to see Marshall Fields. Sorry I won't get the chance.

I don't care for Macy's. Where we live right now, I don't have much choice but Macys. :confused3 My condolences to you Fields fans.

You know what, I'm ok with them changing the names of the run of the mill mall stores but messing with the State Street store is a BAD move. It IS an insult to take away the name as something so idetified with chicago.

Good Lord...Macy's just needs to stop. They took over Rich's here in Atlanta. I'm sorry, Macy's Frango Mints just won't be the same as Field's Frango Mints!

It's even worse here. Before they were Field's they were Fredricks and Nelson Frangos, and despite their claims otherwise, they were never the same after Field's purchased them. I'm not the only one in the area that feels that way either. Not sure what changed, but they don't taste or feel the same.

I got the impression that Frangos would be going away all togther, but maybe the person I talked to was just hinting at a name change with the candy staying basically the same. She hinted that they wouldn't be around come this holiday season.

I'm confusted by this: Before they were called Frango? Wasn't that about 100 years ago? I think you are thinking of when Field's stopped physically making the mints on the 7th floor of the state street store and outsourced it to Philly (I think?), that was done courtesy of Target Corp.
