Fibromyalgia Thread

Ok. Imve been complaining that things are not bad just not good enough to do anything. Well right now id settle for same old. Kids were driving me crazy home from school and since dh worked from home i went out in our new suv with heated seats :goodvibesto run some errands before rds frozes over. I was naughty because we skiped all activities. Well i stopped at the bottom of our drive to plug in some lights with the new cord i picked up and suddenly bang :scared1:PAIN. No reason just heart stopping total imobilizing pain. Stood for several minutes trying to figure how to move the three feet to car.
dh bless him came out when i txted him and pulled me out of car and carried me to shower refusing to leave me until i stopped screaming everytime i moved:sad2:

Only thing we can figure is going from the warm seat to minus temps instantly locked me up. So i'm loading with meds in a recliner heating pad and pillows in hand waiting to unlock long enough to make fudge for dh work party tomorrow.

Did i mention how glad i am to have a great guy comming to plow driveway and clear walkway this year?:cheer2: omg dont think i can shovel this year.

Sending warm vibes:goodvibes to all!

Hi Guys! I passed my certification test for Tax Aid Volunteer and now can refocus on the holidays and work. Work had been so crazy busy it is mind boggling. We are not usually this busy this time of year in our business. I have been sleeping really wierd hours like 3AM to noon and it is screwing me up so much. So hard to accomplish anything. We had snow for the first time last night and everything iced over. I am a wreck walking the dogs because I don't want to fall. I too am achy and was hoping for some warmth when we go to WDW in Jan. Not looking good for the weather. I just would like to not ache just for a few days. I hope you all don't suffer too much with the cold, winter is crummy!

:cheer2:party: 3am to noon is my new normal. I have learned to look down when I walk with the ice/snow. We are having a tough one so far (luckily not my little neighborhood, but all around us). Maybe a couple more feet tonight.

Oh no - a couple more feet!? UGH! I try to be careful when walking outside but last year I fell and was sore for weeks with a huge bruise on my hip. I hope out new normal hours of sleep switch back (but I doubt it lol!) At least I know I am not the only one, makes it a bit easier!

Tigg - I hope you are ok from your bad episode.

Tink - your tree is so pretty :)

Erika

Eduke,
I hope you are ok walking your dogs and have good weather for your trip to WDW in Jan :goodvibes Don't work too hard either. :)

Tigg, Geeze I hope you get better. That is not good...continuous heat would be my remedy. I always use heat. Only do what you have to to feel better. :goodvibes

Tink, Glad to see the meds are working better for you, I hope they continue to work so you can have some freedom from all your pain. I am also very glad to see your dr worked things for you. I am happy that your family seems to be supporting you more. I hope that stays through the holidays so you can have some enjoyment.

TO all: 3 am till 730 is my normal then i go back to bed about 1030 am till about noon so I am almost there with you. I have to get that fixed by the new year though cause after that I will start my new job as an teacher's assistant, I am only on call but don't know how often they will call me and it will be last minute so I have to get up and ready!! :scared1:

Eduke congrats!:cheer2:

Well you know your introuble when a little sniffle sends spasims down your back and right leg:sad2: debating taking my old flexeril that i found in my cupbord. If i call dr for new script it could take 48 hours. I also hate taking it because i will be comatosed for about 12hrs and foggy as much as two days :( . Dh refused to leave trhis am so he is missing his work christmas party. We were afriad i might not be able to work the peddles well enough to drive to the bus stop.

Anywhoo send some bengay laced pixie dust my way please!

Sending pain free vibes:goodvibesand pixie dust to all!pixiedust:

My mother self-diagnosed that she has had for fibromyalgia 30+ years. Her primary physician (in whom I do not have a lot of trust) has tried things for her off and on, without much luck. Maybe that's just the nature of the beast.

I got a call from my mother (85 years old) this morning. She never calls! But said the pain in her hip is too much to handle. I called her primary physician, but it's his day off.

----> My question is, are all of you treated by your primary physician or do you see a specialist, and if you see a specialist, what field?

Thank you, thank you for any help.

I'm so sorry about your mom. I go to a primary now since there really is nothing to be done for me. My main dr for years was an infectious disease. Specialist who was really good with fms pts. Many here have. Rumatologists. Since this is a new and sudden flair i would go to dr on call or er. Tink is right. She could have broken something and since she is used to pain ignored it til now. She may find a dr that treats her illness better. I found a good nerologist when i wi was rushed to er with complicated migrains. She may want to get a internist that specialises in elderly patients...a gerentologist.

Good luck. Let us know how you and your mom make out.

Sending pain free vibes your way! :goodvibes

I now only see my Primary but like most have done the whole roll of doctors to see if anything has worked. I have but don't alway see the following

endocrinologist
neurosurgeon
pain management
pain specialist
physical therapy
gastroenterology specialist
rheumatology specialist

Now I love my Primary and he will prescribe whatever I need including the pain meds. I think someone needs to go with your Mom. At her age, there should be no hard discussions about giving her a pain med unless there is some underlying condition we don't know about. With Fibro, you do not become an addict. You use the pain meds to survive. Just like if you were diabetic you need insulin, some people with Fibro need pain meds.

If he refuses, there are some meds out there they may help her. I take Neurontin which is working for me at this time, some of the gals/guys take Lyrica and have some great results. Others do it a more holistic way. Bottom line, your MOTHER SHOULD NOT BE IN SEVERE PAIN all the time. She should be able to control it some with type of medication.

Call back the office and see if there is another physician who will see her, or even a PA. Also, not sure if your area has walk-in clinics, but you could call and see their policy on pain meds. Some will order short term doses until you see your physician (you still need to take her). Sometimes the best fix is the ER. They have the equipment to check her over very thoroughly and here, they never hesitate to treat pain. With her age, she could have a hairline break somewhere and not even know it.

Whatever you chose, you will both be in my thoughts. I hope you get her some relief today. And the consensus among us here is heat, so if you can get her a heating pad, heat throw, whatever. God Bless, Diane.

I know she uses a heating pad, but I'll check out the heating throw.

Her primary care physician has tried a few things over the years, most recently Savella (sp?) but it made her groggy and she still had to take Tylenol.

Thank you for your thoughts and advice. She called back later today and said she was actually having one of her better days -- which confuses me, because like I said she never calls me. I suggested a rhuematologist (sp???) and she said it could wait until after Christmas. I know she says as long as she's sitting she's not in pain, but can't stand very long. She has a hard time getting out of her chair, or bed, so I'm thinking a power lift chair would be a good idea, but I know they're expen$ive.

Good idea about a gerentologist. I'll have to see what we have in this area.

Glad she sounds better! As far as a lift contact her dr and insurance it should be covered. Beaware lifts and scooters are often part of health plans but they usually reject clains 3 or 4 times in hopes that they will not have to pay. She may also be eligable for lifeline necklaces and a home health aid 2 to 3 hrs a few times a week. I did home healthcare to put myself through college and very few know what they qualify for. Don't take the first answer you get for any of these thing. Move up the supervisor food chain a few times before you assume she is not eligable.

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't checked in for a while.

I've been pretty even-keeled on my fibro lately, but have been getting a LOT of sleep (like 10 hours a night). I do have trouble getting out of the bed in the morning, but once I'm up and showered I come out of my "fog" and I'm good for the day (or, until about 8 p.m.!)

I have done very little to prepare for Christmas--just haven't had the motivation--but will have to now because it's next week! :scared1:

My best friend and I went to WDW/Universal for 10 days in November--LOL we never made rope drop once as we usually slept in. There weren't many late nights either (we did watch llluminations!) We had other friends drop in and out and enjoyed the Food and Wine Festival. We had a Treehouse Villa so each had our own bed and room for guests so it was great!

I have been bummed about some of the scooter threads here on the Dis and elsewhere--maybe it's just me but I am getting really discouraged about the number of people who label anyone who is overweight (like me!) and rides a scooter at Disney as "fat and lazy"--the threads inevitably get closed because of the nastiness. It is just really sad. So much hidden prejudice. They have no idea what my issues are--or yours. And that but for a scooter I wouldn't be at WDW. Sigh.

Other than that, life is good. Busy at work, seeing some friends over the holidays and spending Christmas Day with family. My dog went to boot camp while I was in Florida and now is such a good girl! I just wish I could walk a fair distance so I could take her out more. She comes to work with me everyday so I guess she is a LITTLE spoiled!

Hope everyone's doing good. Oh and my fibro was twice diagnosed by rheumatologists but lately I have just been seeing my primary. However, I need to find a good rheumotologist because I'm seeing changes in my fingers indicative of RA.

If I don't get back before, Merry Christmas to all!

Don't let the threads get you down, seriously just don't open them. Like everything in life, too many people do abuse the system, thus the reason for the threads.

I look at it as a two-sided blade, and everyone has their opinion. Ignorance will be everywhere but so will the abuse? If it helps, I would never judge you because of your size. So thats 1 on your side, forever!

Aww--that's so sweet! The funny thing is that I have tons of friends--both IRL and on the internet--that don't judge but for some reason the thought of people judging at Disney of all places just bums me out! And it's only when I'm using a scooter--like the thought that people think I'm "cheating" or something. Oh well--it's not worth it--like you say. I open the threads because I think maybe something I "say" will change someone's mind, but I think in most cases it is a lost cause!
