Fibromyalgia Thread

Welcome Copy! Glad you could join us.

Bright, don't worry about a jammie weekend. You obviously needed it. My DH was a phycho Christmas man this year and did most of the decorating. If he had waited for me it wouldn't be done....

Try not to overdo this week everyone.

Chell CU soon @ WDW PM your schedule and I will send mine in the next few days.

Have a restful pain free week all!:santa:

I found out some great news today! My dr had a neuro read my brain MRI results and everything was normal! So, at least I know that I'm just dealing with Fibro, not MS or anything like that :cloud9:

EDuke98080 thanks so much for the welcome also! :)

 Hello CopyPixie :welcome:

I'm glad to hear your MRI is clear.:cool1:

I might have an idea of whats going on. I have had many of the symptoms you describe for 15 years of so. Mine include numbeness in both my hands (especially the tips) , numbness on the right side of my body epecially my right arm and right side of my face. I also have lost the vision from the sides and more recently in the center of my field of vison. Finally the most scarey thing was to lose my ability to speak for 6 hours. Usually I just mispeak words or have what I affectionatly call "brain hiccups" which leads to verbal hiccups if you know what I mean:laughing: After two years and many Er visits with many of the symtoms above I lost my vison for the first time and went to my DH Optamologist who diagnosed me with complicated migraines ( I think they now call them Atypical migraines). This means I get the Aura symptoms without the headache and usually get the headache symptoms without the auras. Since diagnosis I have noticed that if I use an Ice pack to control the headaches I will often switch sysmptoms to one of the above :confused3. So you may want to see if Migraines are an issue for you. Many of us have them. I cannot take migraine medications so rest, icepacks and dark rooms have to suffice. I do know that the more I do the more headaches or auras I get.

You will get alot of great info and support from the Gang on this Thread:thumbsup2 I have yet to see any flaming or drama here:). Since there are alot of posts for you to go through I wanted to let you know about a study that looks really intresting that links chronic fatigue syndrome (most of us have both cfd and fms) and a virus called XMRV here is one of my origonial posting about it on pg 19 post #281 http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2164036&page=19
Dr Oz also did a segment on his show about it and has info on his wweb page.

Sorry its been so long since my last post. Very tired and in alot of pain the past week just plodding through everthing to get kids ready for Christmas. Wish I could enjoy it more. We have been trying to get up all our decorations up since Thanksgiving :sad2:. Finally decided to put half away this year. Got our main memory tree up with all our special ornaments and the lights and a few odds ends. Dh and I have a little tree in our parlor where we open some of our gifts christmas eve so we can have some holiday magic for ourselves. The tree is up but not decorated maybe santa will decorate for us! :lmao:

We did get to see our first movie alone since Valentines:cool1:
It was Avitar. Which had really cool effects that pulled you into the story. We also took kids to see Christmas Carol which was way too scarey :scared1:for young ones. It was very good but intense. DD5 and I left three times.

One more holiday note If you have litlle kids who would like to catch Santa there is a sight that will take a picture of Santa in your house! Just send them the picture and they do the rest. They capture the tooth fair too. Very cute. We always watch Santa covery the Globe with NORAD site. So sweet that those soldiers who looks for Missle all year, take the time to make Santa real. Don't think I could get kids to be without it:laughing:
Here is the Santa and Norad Sites. Merry Christmas!!!:santa:

Sening Pain free vibes :goodvibes and Pixie Dust to All pixiedust:

Weekend before last my shoulder & knees started hurting. *sigh* I couldn't get in with my Rheumy but I was able to get an appointment with his PA. Sadly I knew I needed injections. But since I only had them from my Rheumy I was terrified of the PA giving them to me. I had always heard horror stories about how painful they were but my doctor is so good at it he is the only person I ever want to give me the steroid injections. But I was desperate since we leave for WDW next Thursday. Holy crap it hurt! He gave them slower and it HURT! My husband said he may have done it slower since I was so nervous & scared. The PA caught on to how "timid" I was about it and made a comment about it. My doctor was on vacation. I was hoping he would be there today and I would be able to run into him and sweet talk him into doing them real quick. It wouldn't have taken him more than 5 minutes. He told me last time not to suffer to just come see him and he would take care of me. Last time I saw him he was kind of sad that he didn't get to give me any shots. HA! He's silly but a great doctor.

Anyway, I tried to go to bed but couldn't go to sleep. After 90 minutes I finally figured out it is all of the steroids running through my body. My legs hurt and my shoulder hurts. I've had ibuprofen & Aleve. My nightly pills haven't done a thing to make me go to sleep. I may take another muscle relaxer soon, a different one, to see if that will help me sleep. I have to be up at in 6 1/2 hours for work. **sigh**

Sorry to whine. I needed to. My poor husband won't go to sleep because I can't. He is such a wonderful husband! I'm so blessed to have him in my life. He takes such great care of me and spoils me. I really am thankful for him.

I'm tired but can't sleep...

I did something really dumb today. I took my dog out for a walk and instead of staying on the clear road I walked on the snow and slipped and fell. Landed on my butt really hard and put my hand down to break my fall. So now I hurt... wrist, arm and shoulder and back & legs. Not sure how I will feel tomorrow but not looking forward to it! I didn't tell my DH and DS until tonight after I made them promise not to get mad at me. I really need the walk everyday, it's short but helps the fibro, and I need the daylight too and I knew they would not want me to go anymore. UGH, it is so frustrating!

Michelle, I am so sorry you are feeling badly tonight and hope you are better tomorrow.
Copy, I am glad you got good news!
Tigg - thanks for the links!

Keep plugging along! :grouphug:

I'm so sorry you fell. My DH gets mad at me when I fall or bump myself but I won't live in a bubble gotta keep trying :).I remind him my stubboness is why he married me LOL! I just found some covers for my shoes/boots that prevent you from slipping. I got them at Dicks sporting goods. They are rubber with metal springs that strech across the bottom of your shoes. And you pull them over your shoes like an old fashoned pair or rubbers. During this last storm I didn't even notice the ice under the snow because I didn't slip once! They were $22 I think.

Michelle so sorry your in so much pain. Hopefully the pixie dust at WDW will fix you up next week!

Erika I'm sorry to hear about your fall. Can you take ibuprofen? If so, go ahead and take some so you won't be so sore later. It's good that you get out for the walk so often! Way to go!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not in as much pain right now. But I'm still so tired. Last night I got 4 hours sleep, then I had to work 8 hours today. I didn't want to be at work at all. Add to all of that the fact that our trip is next week I REALLY didn't want to work. ;) As soon as I got home I took a nap. The electric blanket helped ease some of the pain. Usually I just warm the bed with it but this evening I kept it on.

Tigg, thanks so much for the awesome info I will definitely look into that! :) Sounds like you and the kiddos will have a great time with Santa this year... I hope it is pain free and wonderful :santa:

EDuke98080 I am soooo sorry you fell!! I know how amazingly awful that can make you feel... I did something similar earlier in the season before I was diagnosed and couldn't figure out why I was in so much pain for so long afterward! I hope you get some great rest and feel so much better tomorrow :)

Chell, glad to hear you are feeling a bit better... I am confident that the wonderfulness of WDW will have you feeling better in no time... (mentally if not physically at least ;) )

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone... it's been a very long and stressful day and I'm ready to just sleep thru Christmas... but gotta keep plugging. Thanks for all the wonderful support I find on here. :grouphug:

Well I thought I had posted early on the morning of the 23rd, I typed a really long message to everyone. I guess I was half asleep and did not hit send. :upsidedow

So I will try again. Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the day with your familes, that is if you celebrate.

Eduke: I am sorry you fell and hope that you are feeling better.

Chell: I am sorry that you cannot sleep I know it can be very frustrating not to be able to sleep. I am glad that you have a supportive hubby. That makes all the difference in the world. I hope you are feeling better from the injections now. If not, I at least hope that you are feeling better once you get to WDW. :santa:

Tigg, I hope that you are feeling better now, and were able to enjoy the Christmas with your family.

To everyone else on this thread, I hope you all are enjoying time with your loved ones. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and pain free days, (or as close as you can get) :dance3:

Stephanie

Thank you all for your good wishes after my fall. It wasn't as horrible as I had anticipated and it is mostly my shoulder that hurts. Now it is only tender to the touch and if I roll over on it so all is good! Thank goodness it wasn't my back as that takes me weeks to recover from. Your support on this thread is amazing. What a super group! I am glad to be a part of it.

I hope you all have a Happy New Year.

Chell, CU soon!

Ok all, I have good news. At least I hope it is! I have not been using my elliptical because it hurts my knees. I suspect this is since I have gained so much weight. My knees never bothered me before.

So with my Christmas money I bought The biggest loser for our Wii and intend to buy Fitness Plus to go with it. It has yoga, etc and biggest loser has nutritional info etc. I am so excited to use it, I hope I do.

I was excited about the elliptical but don't use it as often as I should. My friend has The Wii fitness plus too and apparently we can hook up together for challenges etc.

I hope that I stick with this. I have high hopes for now. :goodvibes

My friend knows someone who lost 35 pounds on it.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Hope everyone is feeling well too!!!

We have everything packed except for a few shirts that needed to be washed and the pants I wore today. Otherwise we are ready to go. Wednesday night I will need to get my meds out of my purse and put in a plastic bag - my nose spray, eye drops, etc.

Tonight I got contaminated at dinner so my stomach & belly are NOT happy. I know this pain will last for a few days. I hope it passes VERY quickly because I want it G-O-N-E before vacation! I'm trying so hard to be careful. I think what happened was that they put the wrong side on my plate then just took it off and put the right one on it. That's how sensitive I am. :sad2:

Hi friends, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Brighteyes, Congrats on your Wii purchase! I got a Wii Fit that I still need to break out of the box... and trust me, I NEED to do it! :rotfl: We'll have to keep each other posted on our progress!! My doctor swears I won't stick with it, but I am definitely ready to prove her wrong ;)

EDuke, Sooo glad to hear that you are feeling better from your fall... hope your shoulder continues to heal quickly!

Chell, Hoping your stomach feels much better very soon... I know how much that can stink on vacation. Sending prayers and pixie dust for a speedy recovery! :littleangel: pixiedust:

I do have a question for everyone... how do you guys deal with mood issues associated with Fibro? Do others suffer from depression with their Fibro? I was on Effexor before my diagnosis and the doctor was hoping that the Savella would be strong enough to replace the Effexor without any other meds, but it definitely hasn't been. I started on Welbutrin last week and I'm really hoping it starts to "kick in"... I haven't felt this down in a long time and I don't like it all... definitely isn't making the Fibro any easier to tackle. Would love to hear if you guys have suggestions.

Hope everyone has a great week and a very happy New Year! :goodvibes

Hi everybody:wave: Hope you all had a nice Christmas. :santa:

Christmas day was a little rough here I woke up in more pain then I have been in in quite awhile:headache:. So kids waited upstairs while I let a mega dose of pain meds kick in. Got through morning gifts only to get dizzy and sick from the meds so had to lay down for awhile. Managed to keep kids from worring too much but DH and I had to postpone our gift giving to each other by a day. We really like to enjoy that as quiet time each year by the fire :lovestruc.

Not as pleasant as I would have liked but could have been much worse. Looks like I'm switching from a exhastion cycle to a pain cycle which I like more because I can control my pain much better than I can my fatigue. It always takes me a few weeks to get adjusted to the pain level and get better control with my relaxation/imagery techniques and pain meds. Hope this lasts a long time because I've been in major fatigue mode since just after we returned from Disney last May and I'm tired of sleeping all the time!

Brighteyes we got a wii too! I dont have the wii fit board just several family games. Let me know how this works for you. I'm hoping if I'm waking up I can lose some weight too!

Eduke & Chell Enjoy your trips!!!

Copy pixie sorry you are feeling so down. Cant help you much in the depression dept. I think it is the only sympton I have never had. Good thing too since every antidepresant they put me on for pain made me feel like I had bugs under my skin:scared1::scared1: FLaxseed oil can help with overall symptoms, vitamin d difficentcy can cause SAD and if you can't handle antidepressants I know the suppliment st johns wort has worked for some. Flax is an omaga fatty acid so it doesnt interact with anything any more than olive oil would. St johnswart will defintaly interact with antidepressants and other medications. For me meds are too strong and suppliments have helped a little with no side effects.

Sending pain free vibes:goodvibes and Pixie dust to allpixiedust:

Whew!

Now on to Christmas! The Osborne lights were gorgeous this weekend, I think we're going back over tomorrow to see them, it always puts me back in a holiday spirit!

.....

It looks like you have been to WDW a couple of times recently. Did you happen to notice the PhotoPass photographers? I'm still trying to get confirmed sightings for my PhotoPass location thread. If you could help me out I would really appreciate it.! Eduke and chell if you notice them I could use your help too!

Sure, I'll do my best.

Sorry for those of you who aren't feeling well. I don't say the names to be rude but I have memory issues and if I keep going back and forth I just confuse myself. That doesn't mean I'm not sending you all the best thoughts and wishes though.

Anyway, I am feeling better today thankfully. I'm ready for vacation!

I know what you mean. One time I posted something and got brighteyes mixed up with another poster and it came out very embarrasing :o brighteyes God bless her turned it into a joke! Still anywhere else and I would have been flamed. Gotta love the crew on this thread! Sending Pixie dust your way for a great trip!!!!:goodvibes

Thank you! I'm so glad everyone here understands. A while back on another board I used to make little notes but even with that I started getting confused. Oh, my mushy brain.

I don't for one minute judge anyone who has a memory lapse! I am the worst when it comes to that! Once I got into a lot of trouble because halfway through the semester I thought my class started an hour later than it did.

My prof thought I was crazy lol. I told him he might think I'm crazy but at least I was honest about why I was late. :rotfl: He didn't see the humour. :rolleyes1

So I am all set with my Biggest Loser and Wii Fit Plus! Just waiting for DS to bring the Wii down so I can get going on it. :yay: There might be hope yet.
