Fibromyalgia sufferers -

My mom suffers from this and also has diabetes and is overweight. I feel so sorry for her sometimes. Especially when she has stressful days at work (works at Walmart -of all stressful places:confused3 ) she gets home and goes straight to bed. Sometimes, she can't even get up for church. She's done chiropractor and deep massage which helps.

There seems to be at least 3 distinct "paths to Fibro"
1. Whiplash
2. Infection
3. Fracture of a major bone

One of my daily triggers I have to avoid at all costs is wind/air blowing on me. My DH is very patient when we have to move in restaurants etc.

I swear by Dansko's professional clog, great support .

Good on-line support group http://www.fibrotalk.com

Thanks for the link! Now let's just hope I remember to look at it when I get home tonight.

OH MY I HAVE CHILLS READING THIS!!!!!!!!

Binny - Phoresnuf - and others I have a question for you:

Can you think back to when your symptoms started? Were they not constant?

For the past 4 years now this muscle weakness hits me in the fall and lasts until December (2 months or so) and then I "pop" right out of it. I was SURE I had fibro but as others mentioned my doctor does not want to be quick and "label" that as it could interfere with medical benefits. I live in Vermont so it happens each fall - when the cooler air moves in?? Almost like a seasonal disorder. However, I read about the pressure points and that is exactly where I hurt.

Reading your posts my eyes were popping out of my head  I was in two automobile accidents where my car was totalled (not my fault;) ) and I had whiplash from each accident. The second one I was stopped to make a left turn in a small sports type car and was hit from behind by a truck which police believed was going 50 mph!! OUCH.

Also, when I was very young (age 8-14) I remember my legs aching so. Again, happened in the winter when it was cold and I would be by our woodstove. I would stand up and shake them because they ached. Someone else mentioned this in their post!

I'd appreciate your input as to when your symptoms started. Each year around October I wonder if it will happen again. And then there it is...this past Fall it was very mild which is weird because we had an extremely mild fall here in Vermont.

Thanks everyone!! What a great thread!!

hi Trish,

Mine started a few years ago. My car accident was years ago but mine came on after the birth of my last child in 99.

I was exhausted but chalked it up to having a newborn and an 11 month old and a 3 year old. I also had massive PPD.

I was at Walmart about 2 years later with dh after a particularly bad bout of what I thought was the flu. I had zero energy he looked at me and said were going to the ER. I went to the Doc in the Box across the street and they took one look at me and said "are you having chest pains?" I said, yes I mean it hurt SO badly. They ran an EKG, well they ran 3 of them, they all came back abnormal. They called the ambulance and rushed me to the Heart center, lights and all.

They did more EKGs there, all of them abnormal. They did bloodwork, put the dye in my bloodstream and did a CT scan those finally came back normal.

They let me go later that night and said " we dont know whats wrong with you"

it took another year before I found a Doc that woudl recognize the Fibro. My heart thing is another issue though but that was was the catalyst for disgnosing the fibro.

I am ok most days. I ache almost all the time but it is not debilitating for me. I know a lot of people have it much worse. I have my trigger points that bother me if I am touched there. I am "foggy" a lot of the time which is what bothers me the most. The exhaustion is probably the worst though. Some days I just lose it. I HATE that.

Wow Binny, I'm sorry for what you have to go through. When I read that, I go back to not knowing what the heck I deal with each year :confused3 all I know is that when I have it I am extremely exhausted, muscles ache and it is worse in certain parts like the top of my chest just below my neck. Never have I had any depression which my doctor says is a symptom of fibro??

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

Its ok as I said many have it much worse.

I wanted to put a warning about over doing. I have a bad habit of seizing the " man I feel pretty good" days and way over do it. Yesterday was one of those days. I cleaned like a crazy woman I worked really hard, vaccumed almost the whole house, mopped the floors, cleaned out a bunch of other things.

I paid for it last night. :( I was SO sore all night. Took the ultram and then had to take another dose and it still didnt cover it. :(

Obviously I am beat today.

So remember to still pace yourself even if youre having a great day. It isnt worth it to over do.

Yup, pace , pace ,pace!
Binny do you have mitral valve prolaspe ? That is one of the main cardiac irregularities associated with FM.

You MUST try Peak Endurance (the ATP supplement) if you come over i can give you some free samples :)

Nope I have a Juevenile Heart rate. You would know more about that than I would I suppose.

They did a lot of tests at St Als last year and ruled out everything but that. He said that can sometimes mess up an EKG.

Thanks I will have to try that. I really need to do something to get more energy some days like today.

Can you tell me more about this supplement?

Do any of you get headaches often? For the past few months I've had them so often and they are very severe.

Do you have TMJ ? Another thing that seems to go along with FM, and it can cause horrible muscle tension headaches.

The site for ordering the ATP supplement ( called AIM Peak endurance ) is http://www.atpconnection.com

Binny, did they use the term sinus arrythmia? That is a conduction anomaly associated with young people.

I dont know Judy Id have to heck the records. I was so relieved that there werent any serious problems. You know the history I have in my family. I was pretty scared that it was something much worse.

Ill check out that site.
I was at Costco today and noticed the have performance vitamins I wonder if that would help as opposed to regular vitamins?
