My doctor has prescribed Flexeril to help with some specific pain I've been having, due to fibromyalgia. I also take Lyrica. I did a quick search on the internet to see how common Flexeril is, for treatment of fibromyalgia, but I wanted to ask here to see what your experiences may have been.

Anyone? :)

I took Flexeril long term a few years ago. It works well to relax muscles which in turn alleviates pain from stiffness and can improve sleep. I took it due to lumbar muscle spasms not fibromyalgia.

I can say that it took me a while to adjust to this medication. I hated it at first but once my body adjusted to it, it worked quite well.

I found a few user sites where people with Fibromyalgia report their experiences when trying Flexeril. :)

I've been taking flexeril for back issues on and off for the past few years- I was diagnosed with fibro earlier this year and my PCP has me take it to help w/ the pain flares (when will these temperature changes stop???)- I don't really like the feeling it gives me (kind of makes my mind/body feel like jell-o) BUT it's helped w/ my muscle issues, whether it be a tender point from fibro or back pain. I'm not on lyrica, as the flexeril and ultram that I take when I'm "flaring" is quite effective and I'm honestly scared of the weight gain side effects I've read about.

Anyway... I think it's definitely worth you trying out- each of us are different w/ how we respond... and financially, it's not a big gamble at all! I know that at least in the Atlanta area, Walmart and Kroger (grocery store) have flexeril on the $4 prescription list! :thumbsup2

Hope this helps! (Also hope it made sense... w/ all the political threads & stuff on tv, my brain is fried tonight!!!)

I take Flexeril for fibro it does help. The biggest thing it does is help me relax and let me sleep.

I take flexeril as well--it helps a lot with the pain. I recently quit taking Lyrica because it didn't do squat for me, other than cause major weight gain. :( It's too expensive for something that doesn't work! Like a PP said, the generic flexeril is on the $4 list at Walmart, and they've always filled a 3 month supply for me. Since I don't take it everyday, it lasts quite awhile.

DH takes it for his severe neck pain/problems. It is very effective at relaxing you and easing muscle pain. And will yeild a good nights sleep. He only takes it once a week or so. Good luck.

I took flexiril for whiplash from a car accident, I may as well have been taking St. Josephs childrens aspirin, it did nothing for me.

I was diagnosed with fibro a year ago and my doctor put me on flexaril because I am also on an antidepressant. I also tried amytriptaline but it didn't do anything for me. Flexaril does the job very well for me.

I also have psoriatic arthritis so I have pain from that too.

It did nothing for me either. I am glad to read how it helped some out though. I hope it works for you OP.

I have taken flexeril for my fibro. It did help some. My doctor changed my meds to Zanaflex (tizanidine) and Parafon Forte. I take them rarely but, they do help. It helps me relax enough to sleep.

DD takes it for her car accident injuries (neck and back) - as well as fibro.. (She couldn't take the Lyrica or any of the other alterntive medications..)

She feels that it has helped a great deal.. :)

I took it once - years ago when I hurt my back - short term with a narcotic med during the day.. The flexeril was just for at night and I have to say, it was the best sleep I ever got in my entire life! :thumbsup2

Have you guys tried that fentanyl patch? Heard it from a friend. Does that help for the pain as well? Thanks. D.

Flexeril is not kind to me. It makes me dizzy and my heart races. :headache:

Seems no one uses the patches here. I’ve had fibromyalgia for some time now and for the pain, I use ultram 50 to 100mg plus acetaminophen every 8 hours. I have been using a fentanyl patch for over a year now and it does help as an additional support for the pain relief. You might want to ask your dr about them. Furthermore, some antidepressants do help for my FM. Hope this helps! D.

I was put on Flexaril 15yrs ago for pain in my neck and spasms in spine. I'm supposed to take it 3 x's a day but I take it at night. I was dx with fibomyalgia about 9yrs ago and psoriatic arthritis 10 yrs ago. I think I'm going to start taking it as ordered and see if it helps me to as the psoriatric arthitis kills me. Hope it'll work for me too. Do you have other connective tissue disease and autoimmune problems? I think alot of these problems coinside with each other.

Anyone read the article on AOL? It was trashing the drug companies for trying to come up with meds for fibro. This joker was saying fibro wasn't a real illness....that it's "ALL IN YOUR HEAD".

It mad me angry. Please tell me we're not going backwards.

I didnt read it and would love to. Do you have a link to it? Fibromyalgia is controversial in the medical field and the approved drugs that treat it even more so.

disney kid at heart, I take methotrexate for the psoriatic arthritis. It helps but I am only on 10mg. I have high normal liver enzymes so my doctor won't put me on any of the biologicals or even higher doses. Can't live without my liver so I just take darvocet when needed. I am also on plaquenil 2x a day and the flexaril. I forgot my methotrexate on Monday and woke up today remembering it. I have been having so much trouble moving around this past couple days...gee I wonder why. See, the "fibro fog" can be brutal.

I have symptoms of schrogrens' (spelling) and even possibly lupus but she is putting it down as non specific auto immune along with the fibro and PA.

To all of you who are suffering with the cold these past couple months...keep thinking about spring. I keep visualizing daffodils and birds chirping..anything to get through this long winter we are having here in Ohio.

Hugs to you all.

It was on AOL two days ago. I was so ticked...I didn't think to save it. I don't care what you call it....IT'S NOT ALL IN MY HEAD. I don't take the fibro drugs. I actually, take very little medication. I know this is connected to my immune system. I won't go into details...I think we all know what I'm talking about. I spent too many years with doctors not listening. I have had three independant diagnoses. All say fibro...one thinks I may also have lupus. I know, they aren't there yet...but, PLEASE don't go backwards.
