Hellp! I have a question...If you go to a GYN for your routine pap would they know if you have fibroids or you have to have a special test done to know you have fibroids ?

Fibroids are usually diagnosed with an ultrasound of the uterus, a Pap tests for cervical cancer.

If it's big enough, the doctor could probably feel it during the exam. A coworker had one discovered during an exam and the doctor sent her for an ultrasound.

My fibroids were found with an ultrasound. My mom's were so huge that the doctor could tell from a physical exam.

thanks.. last december i had my routine exam and again "no news is bad news" was the situation. No call from the dr of any sort. But come january I had a change in my monthly cycle. I used to be a 3 day period every 28 days, now it takes 1 week and very irregular and heavy flow of clots occur which is accompanied with cramping. Also back pain and leg pain. With all this symptoms which is the best recourse.. to see my GP or my GYN ? Help and advice is highly appreciated. :confused3

I think you need to see your GYN. Maybe call and talk to them, they may send you right for an ultrasound.

I'd see your GYN. Your symptoms could also be ovarian cysts or endometriosis. I'm leaving in about 10 minutes for an appt. with radiology. They're doing a pelvic ultrasound (for an ovarian cyst). I have a history of cysts and endo, and your symptoms are similar to mine. See your GYN, and don't let them brush you off!
