Should be a nice camera, it looks like a FX version of the D7000. Too bad they did not give it the focus module from the D800.
Well have to see what the retailers actually sell it at. Amazon doesn't have it up for pre-order yet. $2099 is a bit to much for me. If it does come down and sells in the $1599-1799 range, then I may find a way to swing it
I really wouldn't mind a FF body. I LOVE my D300 and there is plenty of life left in it (almost 21,000 shutter clicks so far), but the D600 is tempting.
You will find that 36MP is far from absurd, on the contrary once you start to use it you will find that it is extremely useful.
How so? In what situation would 24MP be inadequate?
Where did I say anything about inadequate? I said it was not absurd.
The 36MP D800 returns an incredible level of detail. You will see things you never saw before in your photos, IMO it takes photography to a new level. I would not go from a D700 to a D600, the D700 is better in certain respects.
My 5-yr old Q6600 Quad Core Windows box with 4 GB of RAM and 2TB of RAID1 has no problem handling the files, flash memory is cheap, and HDD space is cheap. I see no downside to the extra resolution.
