Hope you don't think I'm too weird, but I'm trying to figure out ahead of time where we will eat - we'll be spending 5 days at IoA and US.

1) Will Circus McGurkus be open in early May? Same thing for Monsters Cafe?

2) Which is better "themed" for kids - Cafe 4 or Comic Strip Cafe. Am I correct in that these are 2 separate restaurants?

3) Does Wimpy's have a toppings bar for their burgers?

4) Enchanted Oak Tavern - is this fast food or a full-service rest.?

5) Where is a great place to eat at US? Looking at the menus, I don't see anything that jumps out at me. Except Monsters Cafe - that looks cool - but I understand it's closed?

6) Thunder Falls Terrace - I heard it's closed. Any chance it will be open for early May? hmmmm, looks like they are closing all the good places to eat....

I have 3 children and am looking for FUN places to eat while we're there.

Thanks!

Given that May is generally a slow period (except for the last week or so), Thunder Falls Terrace, Circus McGurkus, and Monster Cafe may not be open. Things are subject to change, though.

Enchanted Oak is a counter service restaurant.

I really haven't eaten at Wimpy's, but with its outdoor seating, I doubt if it has a toppings bar. No outdoor seating restaurants seem to have toppings bar. The Burger Digs at IOA and Ritcher's in USF has a toppings bar.

I haven't eaten at Comic Strip Cafe, but I heard it has the worst food in the park. I'd rather eat at Cafe 4.

Don't overlook Green Eggs & Ham in Seuss Landing.

The building is a hoot and the Green Eggs & Hamwich is pretty darn good.

I ate at the Green Eggs and Ham Cafe. My Hamwich was under a heat lamp too long! :)

Circus McGurkus is open now but Monster cafe is closed.

And you are willing to eat some meals (breakfast and some dinners) offsite (I reccomend this as park food gets redundant after the first couple of days) Look for family friendly buffets. For breakfast the fam could load up on all of their favorites, and at dinner time if leaving the parks, Sweet Tomatoes have fabulous buffets and we have never been disapointed by the country style charm of Cracker Barrell. These restaurants are reasonably priced, and may offer better selections than burgers, dogs, pizza, and barbecue :)

BTW, it isnt wierd at all to think about the food on vacation, I do everything but drool on the pages describing restaurants in my copy of Universal Orlando 03 (DH does think its a little weird though)

At Universal, there is a counter service restaurant, can't think of the name of it, in Amity that serves great fish and chips. They have seating out on the warf by the water. They also have hotdogs. I have found this to be a good place with kids. Fast and easy. Also, Reighter (sp?), across from Earthquake has good burgers and chicken sandwiches.

Sweetness, How far is it to Sweet Tomatoes? I've eaten at Soup Plantation and love it. Any idea how far to Krispy Kreme? There is a wonderful Indian restaurant on International Drive if you like that sort of food.

if your looking for sit down air conditioned fast food themed areas for children i would suggest the burger digs too. the food is good and is a semi-duplicated to look like the visitors center from the first jurassic park movie. down stairs after the kids have finished eating you can explore all the neat hands on dinosaur exhibits.

i also think they would enjoy capt. america cafe which is right across from cafe 4.

IOA:Mythos is not fast food but they have a nice children's menu and the theming is very cool. Make sure to check out the bathrooms. You could even go in just for dessert, mmmm.

Enchanted Oak Tavern has pretty good food and a neat atmosphere. It's like being inside a tree.

Green eggs and Ham: I had a sandwich there. It was actually very good but we were really hungry too. It came with french fries which are kind of yucky at 10:30am, imho!

Universal: Not really a "fun" restaurant but Richter's burgers has reasonable prices and excellent fruit cups. You can sit out back on the deck overlooking the water.

Thanks for all your replies! I think I got all my questions answered :) I've printed this thread so I can figure out where we're going to eat each day. I absolutely HATE walking around a park with a hungry family in tow saying "where do you want to eat?" "I don't know - where do you want to eat?" :p
