Anyone else have a child come down with a fever and no other symptoms? Dd15 will miss another day of school tomorrow. She's had a fever between 101-102.4 since yesterday morning. Ibuprofen will bring it down a bit but then it shoots up again. Besides being worn out from the fever she doesn't have any other symptoms - no sore throat, cough, stuffy nose or headache.

At this point I don't think it's worth dragging her to the doctor. I hope it's a quick bug and shell be better tomorrow.

School hasn't even been in session a month yet and she's missed 2 days!

could she be dehydrated at all?

I don't think to the extent it would cause a fever. She's been drinking a lot of ice water and using the bathroom. Normally when she's dehydrated she gets a headache. I think it's a virus of some sort. I just thought it might be going around.

It's some virus or she's fighting something. Me? If she's drinking and the meds are keeping the fever in check I would wait on calling the doctor.

When I came down with mono my only symptoms for the first five days was fever and tiredness - the sore throat didn't come until later (and then it came with a vengeance!)

Hope it's just a simple virus, though, and that she's feeling better soon.

I would take her to the doctor. I am less like to take my kids with cold symptoms because it is most likely a virus. Fever with no symptoms is usually some kind of infection so I would take her. When my son had Lyme, he had fever for 3-4 days before he had symptoms.

I would call my doctor's office for medical advice. They'd tell me if they think she should be seen. (They have an RN who just takes phone calls, and I've found them to be pretty spot on and helpful.)

Agreed. They will also know if others have been complaining of the same thing in your area.

A close friend of mine was just in the hospitalized a few weeks ago for something similar. Very high fever..... nothing else. They gave her a complete work-up with an infectious disease specialist, but never did find a cause.

Our DD9 was sent home from school Friday for a fever. Spiked around 103 a couple of times on Saturday, stayed up 100.5-102 ish through Monday mid-day before coming down finally eventually to normal. No other symptoms other than easily tired out and slightly reduced appetite. When I called school yesterday to report her sick, staff mentioned that there were a quite a number of kids also out.

The twins had a fever with no other symptoms that lasted about three days. A couple of days after the fever broke, they broke out in blisters on their gums and tongue.

They had Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease.

I'm not saying that's what happening, just sharing my experience.

I hope your DD feels better soon!

We've had the "fever with no other symptoms" many times here. Since fever is the body's way of fighting infection, I don't medicate unless they are miserable.

We think it's a virus going around. Both of my grandkids had it.

My 9 month old grandson had it first. Fever only, up to 104.3 at one point. No other symptoms. He was at the hospital and had multiple tests (just short of a spinal tap). Nothing. After about 5 days, it broke. His 3 year old sister had it several days later. Thankfully hers didn't last quite as long. The pediatrician said it was most likely viral.

I hope your DD feels better soon!

DS had a fever last Sunday that would come down with medicine but then go back up. It lasted about a day and then he was fine.

I was worried because hand foot and mouth was going around his preschool but he never had any other symptoms.

Check for bumps on hands, feet, and in her mouth.
Sorry she' sick.

Oh, yes! When DS was little, we used to kid that "Oh, someone must have looked at Matt wrong-he has a fever again!" It took virtually nothing for him to get a fever, no other symptoms, and after a couple days it would go away. BTW, he just grew out of it and now, at the age of 31, he's fine.

My kids get this often. Sometimes, it will turn into a cold a few days later, but often, it ends up being a 24 hour thing that their bodies fight off.

A fever with no other symptoms happens pretty often around my house. I went to the dr last week for a follow up visit to my physical (4 months ago) and when they routinely took my temp, I had a fever of 101. I was surprised because I had no other symptoms (besides fatigue, but I always have an excuse for that!). The doctor said it was just a virus and not to worry.

But a dr's visit is always a good idea. :goodvibes

My son came down with a fever (101-102) on Friday night. No other symptoms, besides being tired. Sick Sat and Sun. Fever back to normal by Sunday night. Just one of those things.

My son is 14.

Thanks everyone. The fever broke early yesterday morning and dd is back to school today. A few friends are out sick so it's making the rounds thru school.
