ferry from Poly to MK

If I want to be at the MK for the rope drop, what time should I be at the ferry? Which is quicker, the monorail or the ferry? We'll be going to the MK at least 2 mornings, so maybe I'll do both.

The monorail stops right at the Poly, so it's certainly the most convenient option.

When you say ferry, I'm guessing that you mean the small motor launches from the Polynesian pier? If so, those are quite fast as they go directly to the MK. I've never timed the ride but think it is probably 5-7 minutes.

The monorail ride will be a bit longer as it first stops at the GF. However, the resort monorail usually arrives with more frequency than the launches.

So it's a wash in my opinion. Both are fun. One thing in favor of the launches is that we've never been delayed on one. That does happen on the monorail from time to time.

You can also make the short walk to the TTC and catch the large ferry. Those are also deceptively fast once crossing Seven Seas Lagoon. However, they are large and take a while to load. With a double wide stroller or ECV, that might be the easiest route though

I would think that in the am the monorail would be faster, after the Poly it stops at the GF and then onto the MK. The boat, leaves the MK then goes to the GF and then to the Poly and then back to the MK. So it would seem that the monorail would be faster.

It's all the luck of the draw! The monorail goes to the GF then the MK but I've been stuck at the GF multiple times waiting for one reason or another. If you see the little boat is on it's way to the dock at the POLY I say definitely go for it because it has already stopped at the GF and will go directly to the MK. When leaving the MK you stop at the GF first then the POLY. The ferry seems to be the longest wait out of the 3 choices so I would skip that if you'd like to get there in a hurry.

If you were to take the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom and it were to stop on the tracks after leaving the Grand Floridian, it shouldn't be more then a 30 second wait for the Monorail ahead to leave the station at the Magic Kingdom. Of course another factor for the OP might depend on which Longhouse she stays in. If it's close to the GCH it might be faster to use the Monorail, however if it's close to the dock it might be faster to take the boat.

Usually that's the case. And years ago, the monorails always seemed to run fast without delays.

But occasionally in the last few years we've had longer delays. A couple years ago, we were stuck between the Polynesian and the GF for 5 minutes or so and then proceeded very slowly into the GF station. We've had other delays like that in recent years.

Depending which longhouse you are in at the Poly, it may be worth considering walking to the TTC and catching the direct monorail to MK.

That does sound like a good idea. However if the OP were going to the Magic Kingdom when they have AM EMH and wants to be there for the opening, on that specific day it's not a good idea to get the Monorail from the TTC since it would not be running during AM EMH. Of course if it's the standard 9:00 AM park opening for both onsite and offsite guests, then it's something which could be done.

Last July when we stayed at the Poly, the boats weren't running early enough to catch rope drop. The monorail from the TTC was the fastest for us, but we were staying in Tahiti and we were closer to the TTC than the GCH (poly monorail stop). HTH

Wouldn't the TTC monorail be running for EMH anyway, since some resort guests prefer to drive their cars?

My guess is they would be sent to the Resort Monorail. In the past when I have done AM EMH at the Magic Kingdom and took the Monorail from the Contemporary, when we would arrive at the TTC there was a line starting to form at the Express Monorail and it did not show up.
