Ferb, I know What We're Going to Do Today! - Updated 9/30

Hmmm...slow eaters...the worst! I guess I would look at it this way, you are lucky your parents are still around and want to take you on their Disney trips! So you have to slow down a bit.

I can't convince my parents to go at all...though my mom is wearing down, I'm working on her for 2011!

Our holidays / family get togethers are pretty much like that too. We sit and eat and sit some more and eat some more, interspersed with lots of conversation.

I think it's the Italian aspect. Good food + Good Conversation = never leaving the table. :)

I had to giggle at the imagine of the men and all of their sports things, lol! I'm glad that Fantasmic wasn't too crowded and that you had great seats. Score! We've never seens Fantasmic but I would really like to next trip maybe.

I was amazed at how much stuff they were allowed to bring in. They all had huge duffle bags filled with stuff.

Fantasmic is my favorite night time event at Disney. I hate that they run it so limitedly these days. I'm crushed that I'm going to have to miss it yet again when I'm there in October. It's only showing 1 day of the 6 days I'll be at the Disney parks, and that one day is the day we are going to MNSSHP. :sad2:

Actually they were really done eating, just sitting slowly nursing the last of their drinks. In reality I probably shouldn't be surprised. They eat at a normal pace, but if I meet them out for coffee on Saturday afternoons they can sit at Dunkin Donuts for hours nursing a coffee. Maybe it's that I hate coffee that I hate hanging around so long once dinner is over? I have nothing to nurse that long.

I am very greatful that I get to spend such quality time with my parents. Overall we really do get along great on these trips. I think this trip was a bit harder on my dad with his knee issues. He's always been our true Disney commando, and he has not been very accepting of the fact that his knee now limits his ability to do things as he always has.

DW and I don't drink coffee, but fortunately no-one on either side of the family is real post-meal lingerers...that would drive me a bit batty. I enjoy taking my time over a meal, but one of my big pet peeves is when you've finished your meal, and that's when the waiter/waitress disappears, and you can't pay your bill and leave....definitely could see the frustration.

And I get your Dad - men especially don't like to admit they have to slow down...it's too bad from the sound of it he's going to have a long-term problem with it too. Though personally, if I was being limited and in constant pain, and my doctor told me...your not bad enough for surgery...I would call BS on that!

They left it up to him, but his option now is knee replacement so they just recommend to hold off if possible since it's a fairly major surgery. There is another option where they inject a gel into the knee to help buffer the injured areas. He's getting treatment at the VA hospital, and they don't do that procedure because their studies don't show the results to be as overall successful to make it financially viable to do. We are trying to encourage him to look into it on his own, as I actually know several people who it's worked wonders for. He's been a bit reluctant though.

The funny thing is that usually I'm the slowest eater. As a kid I had what's called an open bite. I only had two teeth on either side of my mouth that would touch. As a result it took me forever to eat anything, and was always the last one done with my food. I had surgery on my jaw to fix the problem when I was in high school, but I still am almost always the slowest eater. When they are lingering longer than me, they are really slow!

I'm craving that Cobb salad again! I had a cobb salad from a place near my office and it wasn't nearly the same. The chunks of avacodo where way too big.

My DH had the same thing, but more of an underbite. He can't even to this day really eat pizza by hand because he can't bite it off. Same thing with lettuce in sandwiches. It just stays there. :confused3

I'm craving it NOW, and haven't even had one yet!!

Just spent some time catching up. I know how you feel with the long eating thing. My MIL side of the family is from Spain and when we get together with them they take forever to eat. They eat a little talk a little eat some more and then talk some more. I think it is worse for me because I have no idea what they are saying everybody speaks Spanish or French and I speak neither.

I never was able to eat pizza without cutting it into pieces until after my surgery. Having it done was the best decision I ever made. I was well worth the couple of months I spent with my jaw wired shut.

When my mom's family gets together it's still the same. When I visited them in March every night we'd spend sitting around the table chatting for hours. It was oddly comforting, and I felt like I was a kid again. When we aren't with that side of the family we never do things like that. We only go to the dining room to eat our meal, and then the rest of the day is spent doing other things. I do miss it sometimes. At least everyone is speaking English now though, but one of my earliest memories is of Christmas Eve at my great grandfather's house with him and all his kids (9) speaking really rapid Italian. Once he passed away no one really ever spoke Italian anymore.

Great update! I love the Tink pins. I eat faster than everyone & I always end up watching people eat, so I feel your pain. :rotfl:

I had seen the Tink pins when I was there in December, but didn't have a chance to hunt them down. I was determined this trip to find one. As soon as my big kid mom saw them she had to have one as well. I'm thinking Tink may have to come with me on the half marathon since it's a night race. She can be my little good luck charm.

That is a GREAT idea! :thumbsup2

No food porn this trip? :rotfl: Glad your meal was so good and you were able to be non-commando this time! :goodvibes

No real food porn this trip. I only took two pictures of food this time around. I wasn't feeling up to explaining to my parents why I wanted to take pictures of all our meals. :rotfl:

Yes you do!

I thought of you when I bought it, just like I always think of TK when I'm on Pirates now. Isn't it amazing how much people on these boards that's you've never met stay with you? :goodvibes

The people I nanny for have a huge bottle of Grey Goose in their pantry and every time I see it I always think of all the Disers on here that like the Grey Goose Slushies. :)

Thanks for stopping by my ptr. :goodvibes

Our second full day in the parks, and we were off to the Magic Kingdom. It ended up being a really good choice, as this was our best/warmest weather day of our entire vacation. (Well at least the best/warmest day while I was still down there). It was still unseasonably cold while we were in Disney, but for one day at least it wasn't too bad in the middle of the afternoon.

While we were waiting for my father to return our mugs to the room after breakfast my mom and I wandered around the grounds and took a few pictures.

The flowers were looking beautiful out in front of the main entrance.

Like our first day at DHS we wandered around completely without a plan of any kind. The parks weren't really empty, but there was never any real kind of line for any of the attractions. It was a bit odd. I found it incredibly liberating to explore the parks with no plan. What we saw we would see, and if we missed it - so what. It was wonderful.

As we wandered into Fantasyland the Fairy Godmother was just coming out, so my mom and I had to stop for a picture. I think this is the only character picture I stopped for this entire trip.

I spotted a hidden mickey in the queue for Snow White.

My mother spotted a trash can blowing bubbles. I got the biggest kick out of it.

My father and I decided to take advantage of the somewhat warm day, live dangerously and ride Splash Mountain. pirate: I hadn't ridden it in December because of the weather, and I'd been missing it. My mother thought we were nuts and waited patiently for us by the exit. She may have been the smarter one. Once we were on the ride, and were moving into the shade you could feel that it was cooler than we had thought. Neither of us got wet on the drop, but right after we made the drop and our log turned the corner we got drenched by the water cannons shooting "display" water as the next log dropped down. Had I been smarter I would have taken off my long sleeve jacket before I had got on the ride. I ended up taking it off and hanging it on the wheelchair to try to dry it out over the course of the day. Still it was fun, and I'm glad we rode.

As we were drying out we stopped for the requisite family shot with the castle in back of us -

We stopped to watch the mini afternoon parade. I love that the Give a Day/Get a Day promotion led Disney to bring out Kermit and Miss Piggy. I love the Muppets!

Love the stepsisters too!

This trip was my first time eating at the Liberty Tree Tavern. It was a pleasant surprise. We had dinner there, so it was the set family style menu. Everything was delicious. I particularly loved the salad and I'm a sucker for turkey and stuffing. Nothing fancy, but lots of good basic American classics. It would be a great pick for a place to eat with my nieces. Sorry again about the lack of food porn. You'll have to wait for my Oct. report for some photos from here. I liked it so much I had to add it to our October trip. I definitely liked it better than Tony's as a table service option at the Magic Kingdom.

After dinner we did some more wandering around, and got stuck in line for Buzz Lightyear for over an hour. I'm going to offer this piece of advice to anyone thinking of riding Buzz in the evening. Think twice about it if you want to see Spectromagic or Wishes. The wait time they show is never right. This is the second time in as many trips that I've gotten stuck in line on Buzz in the evening. The wait time was reading only a 20 minute wait, but it was soon apparent to us that we weren't going to be getting on any time soon. The regular line was barely moving and there seemed to be a crazy amount of people going throught the fast pass line. Once your in there, it's nearly impossible to back track out of the line. This has happened to me twice now. I've learned my lesson, and from now on I'll be avoiding Buzz in the evening. 20 minutes my foot.

We were afraid we were going to miss Spectromagic, but we hustled our way up to the hub. It was already packed and it was obvious we weren't going to get anywhere near a decent spot, especially with the wheelchair. We wandered over to our favorite Wishes viewing spot, and even that was starting to fill in already. We found the next best spot and watched Spectro from there. It wasn't a great place to watch Spectro, but it wasn't horrible. After Spectro, my father was going to hold our spot, while my mother and I went off to ride the Jungle Cruise. We tried valiently to get over to Main Street, but we turned back when after over 20 minutes of fighting the crowd we hadn't made it to the road yet. It seems no one was leaving between the parade and the fireworks, so we changed course and fought our way back to my father.

The temps were dropping again, and we all bundled up to keep warm.

I borrowed my father's gorilla pod and attached it to the railing in front of me to snap a few pictures. Using the timer it worked pretty well.

DSC03596_opt.jpg

I don't know if it was worth it though. My father's shots came out just as good and he was holding his camera.

We took our time getting back to the buses and capped off our night with some beignets at POFQ. I love the festive food court at POFQ.

DSCN0027-1_opt.jpg

With one glaring exception. This one float/prop scares the bejesus out of me. It's just so wrong on so many levels.

DSCN0026-1_opt.jpg

We got back to the room, cranked up the heat, and found this little guy on top of the tv.

Two days in the parks, and I could feel the Disney mojo/pixie dust coming back to me. What would our day at Epcot bring?

Wandering around and enjoying Magic Kingdom sounds just lovely!!!

I really want to eat at Liberty Tree Tavern one day, but Charles always says he doesn't want to eat turkey and stuffing in the middle of the summer. Maybe, next time it will be cool enough weather for him.

What a bummer that you got stuck in the Buzz line. We always try to grab fast passes for any attraction that has them because it seems like the stand-by line just creeps by.

Great fireworks pictures and hurray for the return of the pixie dust!

Love all the pictures from French Quarter -- that resort is still my favorite moderate!

I'm so glad your pixie dust was returning. :cloud9:

That dude at POFQ is scary. Way scary. My gaze avoided that general area in January. *shudder*
