fencing in pools at FW

Just because you can break/cheat the rules does not in anyway mean you should just because someone else does!...It is still wrong.

Plus its not the way anyone should teach kids a life object lesson.

AKK.
I don't believe it is breaking a rule OR cheating. It is actually complying with the current rule in place.

The rule says you can have up to 10 people on the reservation at the campground. How is it any different if you LIVE in Florida and come to the Fort to Visit the Grandparents (with the grand-kids) and you were on the reservation, and stay for a couple of days? That would be okay. It wouldn't be a violation of the rules nor would it be even remotely considered cheating (at least for most people). In this case they don't LIVE in Florida they are staying in another Disney Resort, so Disney is already getting their $$$. They are not looking to "Abuse" a privilege, but to spend time with the family. I don't see this as a bad example (and it's not like you would necessarily be discussing the specific details with the kids anyway). Plus you are actually following the rules.

If Disney does not want to allow this, you could be sure they would put a rule/policy in place to prevent it. Quite honestly, I am surprised that they don't actually charge a "Per person" add on price up to that 10 person limit (or at least above some standard number like 4). If I tried to have 3 more people added on my Hotel reservation, I am sure they would make me get another room (and as such more money).

When you register your site guests, they are just that......guests camping at the site, not just visiting the site to bypass the rules. My wife and I have camped for years and have run 2 different campgrounds. Standard rules.

Your not allowed to have visitors to the other resorts and use the pools, so why cheat the system at FW.

So yes.........having day visitors registered as site occupants for the purpose of day use of amenities is cheating/breaking and bypassing the rules.

I would have thought disney would be fencing the pools just due to some of the drownings like the 3 year old not to long ago. Yes some of the areas won't look as pretty with a fence but I could easily see this becoming a big liability issue.

Since they are adding a fence adding a MB sensor so it prevents non guests from using the pools too that would be another plus but may not be the primary motivation.

Like the folks who get a 1 day reservation for a "Tent Site" (Cheapest) but NEVER EVER set foot in the campground, so they can get the early FP and ADRs? or to take advantage of what other "On Site" guests can get?

I have looked at a couple of random campground rules. All allow visitors with really the only restrictions being about Overnight stays, Not allowing visitors to bring pets, registering the visitor at front desk, some have a fee, but NONE had any restriction of using the amenities (that I found). Mostly that it's the GUESTS responsibility to make sure the Visitor follows the rules.

I guess we will agree to disagree. Maybe it's a loophole, but unless Disney has a rule that says you cannot be a "Guest" at 2 resorts (which I highly doubt) it is NOT a violation of the rules.

I think it's more intent then anything else. If someone is exploiting a loophole to gain an unfair advantage, I have an issue with this, but I think a friendly family visit and using the pool with the family is far from an abuse. (unlike CM's using their 40% discount AND taking a dip in the pool or worse yet, the locals just coming in because it's there and they can)[/QUOTE]

Actually you cannot reserve more then 1 room or sites at the same time. Its called double dipping. People would reserve more then 1 room or resort rooms or site, until the last minute before deciding which resort or room they want to stay in. This of course make it harder for other folks to make reservations, hence the rule. Of course that is not what we are discussing.

No problem we can agree to disagree. If everyone had the same opinion of a issue the forums would indeed be very boring!

As of today, there are no Magic Band requirements for either pool at Fort Wilderness, but we'll see what the future holds...

The one pool that I think would have restricted access (fencing & MB required to enter) but that no one mentioned is Stormalong bay, at the Beach Club.

There is restricted access there. I believe they were the first fenced in and ID required resort. They used to give out wristbands prior to MB's. Even DVC has to be staying there to be allowed to swim. We used to stay there when swimming was my daughter's major focus at Disney and thankfully, that's over as I do not swim. The DVC pool hopping perk does not extend to SAB and a couple of other pools. DVC are allowed to pool hop at many other Disney resorts but have several restrictions.

We stayed at the Poly in Oct. and they have MB entry there. Also the Big Blue pool at AOA is now fenced and requires MB. It's a slow roll out but I'm thinking that given time all resort "feature" pools will have MB access.

1) And, to prevent non-resort-guests fro using the pools.
2) In fact, a large percentage of non-guests are CM's.
. . . they go for their 40% Lunch discount at a resort
. . . they stay to swim
3) I would not openly admit to such a practice, but I know OTHERS who have done it.
. . . I have two "no-no's".
. . . I don't sing in public, as my voice has been compared to nails-on-a-blackboard.
. . . I don't swim much in public, as people do not want to see this body in a Speedo.

I think CM's should be allowed to swim in the resort pools as a perk (maybe once a week). (I'm not & have never been a CM, btw.) They get paid so little for their hard work: I definitely think they deserve it.

Aside from that, I'm pro-fencing & MB-only access to resort pools. Stormalong Bay was great last July 4th weekend, not overcrowded, & I have no doubt that's because they had MB-only access to the pools.

I'd rather see the CM"S and their immediate family get cheap or free access to the WDW water parks.

I have a kid CM we do get discounts to the parks and at holiday time we also get free water park access (only once) CM's also have Mickey's Retreat with pools, tennis, boats etc. for exclusive use for CM's and their families. Honestly my kid would rather not ever go to the resorts if possible let alone join the throngs of vacationers to "relax"!
