I had a rather large cyst in my left ovary a few years ago when I was in college, and they had to do a laparoscopy to remove it (just the cyst) because my doctor was worried that it would become malignant. About half of my left ovary is still there (doing what, I'm not too sure

), and my right one is 100% okay. I didn't have any symptoms at all, other than irregular periods. If my mom didn't make me get them checked, who knows what would've happened!

My cousin (who is my age) also had an ovarian cyst some time ago, but hers was much bigger, so they had to remove her entire right ovary as well. This is why I always tell my female friends and relatives to get themselves checked as soon as they turn 18 (like have an ultrasound done) just to make sure everything is as it should be, and my gynecologist recommends that as well.
Sorry if that was too much information, but I think it's really important for young women (and their mothers) to be aware of these things, because you don't always know what's going on inside your body!
