Fellow FL Res. How are you faring with the weather??

I talked earlier with Bet Synder, Tampa, she was packing up, heading out tomorrow at 6 AM, mandatory. They are about 2 blocks from Tampa Bay, storm surge possibility. I heard from Mickey Sunshine (Christine), also is in Pinellas, and she has already left her place and staying with another nearby DIS'er, Leila. Hang tight, guys, hope all goes well tomorrow. And good wishes to all in the path.

Hey, don't have all of the fun without us!! We're coming down on Sat (hopefully) from Boston and I'm thinking it will be rough on FL but you guys seem pretty tough. We hope the weather will be clearing Sat nite into Sun as we've been closely watching the storms projected track. Do you suppose WDW will be ok to open up Sun if they shut down Fri or Sat?? I imagine the most difficult thing will be the large amounts of rain & possible flooding thruout the state, but we're hoping for the best!!! I've been planning this trip for over a year for me & my buddies & the wives (we only have 1 each, I swear! :earsboy: ) and we're very excited, but still a little nervous too. Good luck & stay safe everbody!!

Reporting in from the west coast of Florida between Sarasota and Fort Myers.

It's about 12:45 AM and very, very still outside. It feels as if all the air has been sucked out of Florida.

We've done the usual precautions of bringing in all the plants and lawn chairs and picking up the relatives, in this case my 85 year old mother. She lives right off the Myakka river and she's in the mandatory evacuation zone.

I stocked up on everything today especially cold cuts, bread, donuts, and beer. Did I mention beer?

We're just waiting for something to happen and hope it never does.

And thanks to all those who've offered their thoughts and prayers.

Still here for a while longer, but as Dan said, we're leaving early in the morning and heading for higher ground. And I can't sleep a wink, so I sit, and wait.

It will be awfully hard to leave here in the morning, not knowing what we will be coming back to. I've put most of my valuables in closets and drawers, hoping to protect them if a window gets blown out.

Worried a bit about all the really old, really tall pine trees surrounding our house. We've had a record amount of rainfall in the last two months so the ground is saturated, and the trees are more easily uprooted.

ThAnswr, didn't realize you were so close by. I hope all goes well for your area tomorrow! You have beer....we have beer, wine and liquor! Don't want to run out of the crucial supplies!

Stay safe, everyone in the path of Charley!

They are showing the traffic on the roads leaving FL on TV. Looks like not much fun! I hope you all stay safe, and it is not as bad as they are making it sound. Boy at least with a tornado (that is about the worst we get here) it is over quickly. It must be awful to just sit and watch it come and not be able to do anything but wait. I'll be thinking of all of you!:D

AngieBelle lives in Clermont.(suzannews, do you know this?) I'm not sure what she's doing tomorrow with regard to her job at the parks. I hope she's all right and getting ready for this storm.

As a matter of fact, I was in Tampa Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday near the airport. There is no more prettier sight than heading into St. Petersburg over the Skyway bridge and then heading into Tampa over the Howard Frankland bridge.

I should also mention I bought Margarita mix...........the Cuervo with the tequila already in it. One less thing I have to think about.

Bet, take care of yourself and your family. We're all hoping for the best.

Thanks for the good wishes. I think we're all going to need them.

I confess I'm a bit of an emotional wreck right now. Before this storm decided to make a beeline for us, I was packing up my younger son to take him to college. We are scheduled to fly out to L.A. on Saturday morning, but of course that looks extremely doubtful now. And no telling when we'll actually be able to fly out, or what kind of aftermath I'll have to be leaving behind here.

It's just all becoming a big blur....

Nothing here in Orlando at the moment....but I've heard rain bands are hitting the Keys now.

A rain band came through here about 2:30am. Lots of lightening and thunder, and rain of course. Lost electricity for 45 min.

ThAwsr

It's soooo gooood in Englewooood or wrinklewooood

Did ya hear the thunder a couple hrs ago?

He's a coming

Getting a little more nervous

John

Up early this Am. My county has a hurricane force winds warning with winds in excess of 74 mph, predicted to be around 100mph!
Okay, NOW I'm scared. We were smart and bought our supplies early on Wednesday, except for ice. We went to Publix last night and the place was a mess. There was no water, ice, batteries, milk and the canned good isle was almost empty!

They said they'd have ice this morning! I sure hope so!!!!!

I live on the third floor in an apartment building. Nobody has told us we wouldn't be safe here, so we're staying.

My cats are already freaking out... they must sense something.

Stay safe everyone!!!!

St. Pete/Tampa checking in @6am woke up to a rain storm but has since quit for awhile, I was supposed to evacuate but am sitting this one out with my critters, I have gotten most of my stuff together and cleaned out some inside closets just in case I have to cower in a corner! Looks like it may hit a little farther north from us now, and they are talking about tonight..........I hope not! That would be the worst in the middle of the night! All we can do is keep an eye on the tv as long as there is power that is. I sat through Elena in 1985 but that was a thunderstorm compared to what they are saying this one is. Decided to move my car out my driveway for fear of falling trees, also so they think I have vacated, since the police were driving through the neighborhood with the pa yesterday telling us to leave. But as I was moving my car I did notice that many of us must be planning on staying. My neighbor accross the alley was putting up plywood on his windows and doors last night still at 11pm..........Anyways hope to see all your posters on the west coast many times during the next 36 hours, perhaps if we blow hard enough we can blow this bad boy a way! Prayers and thoughts with everyone and to everyone who has offered them to all of us .............THANKS!!

Well, no change this morning, other than Charley appears to be a little stronger. He's still headed straight towards us. :( :( :(

The police are coming around our neighborhood now, with sirens wailing and the bullhorn, telling us to prepare to evacuate. We're just about ready to leave, but the last thing I'll do is unplug the computer and wrap the components in garbage bags and put them in an upstairs closet. :( :(

Later on, I may have a chance to get online from our shelter, for as long as we have electricity.

I hope everyone stays safe and secure today. If you've been asked to evacuate, I hope you'll listen to the authorities and follow their instructions.

My prayers are with my fellow Floridians and all of our many visitors.

Good luck to all in the path of Charley.

My prayers are with our TROOPS. I think they need them more than us.

John

I just popped on here, Bet, take care, stay safe, a  for you and Allison, well, the guys too. Prayers.

I'll keep you guys in Florida in my prayers. Looks like Charley is a Cat. 2 at 110 MPH right now, but could get stronger yet.

here in Okeechobee, things are quit. I just woke up & went outside... Small tree brances (and one medium sized one) landed in the front yard... Must have been strong winds last night. However, that was just a little taste of what's to come. I'll keep you guys updated as time goes on :D

Still here! Very windy now. Sustained winds at 50 (I'd guess) here and more to come but obviously Key West is getting worse and the poor rangers at the Dry Tortugas National Park are going to take a direct hit so a big good luck to them.

Thankfully this storm is still cooking at 18mph (a great piece of luck no matter how you look at it).

Otherwise it looks like Tampa needs our best wishes, good luck to you folks!
