Hello, Tom!

My house burned to the ground (with all 7 of us asleep inside!!!) when I was a child, and my father saved all of us and the dogs. 31 years later, my stomach still tightens if a firetruck comes down my street!! My second year teaching, I had an electrical fire in my classroom. Statistically, the chances of me being in another fire are virtually nonexistent.

Since you are well insured, GO ON THE TRIP. My house burned down in July, and we still took our annual vacation in August. "Normal", expected activity was very therapeutic for all of us, and you need to build new memories with new photos and souvies for your home.

Not to get "preachy", but this should serve as a reminder to all of us to check our insurance policies on a regular basis.

Again, sorry for all of this. I just spoke to my aunt (who works for the police dept) who also lives in Bellmore, NY. Its weird, she hasn't heard about any of this on the news. I would think it would be all over it. I hope you are all doing ok.

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss and your family. Hang in there as God will provide. Second, we recently went through the "old fire" here in California were several of my friends homes were lost but ours was spared. I know that you are seeing such a great outpouring of support and prayers because in our darkest times are when we shine the brightest. All of my friends are rebuilding and life is back to normal for most only 8 months later. so don't cancel the cruise unless it is imperative that you must. God bless you and your family and you furry "child".

iam so glad you all are safe.....It is a shame about your pets,we love our dog like a child so that must be very difficult for you.
I personaly can't imagine how you are able to post with such a tradegy going on around you. It must have been terrifying!! How did the fire start? Thank goodness you all got out ok!! Did you grab your laptop or how are you posting?

We are on the same December cruise and try to stay with us if you can.

Have they determined a cause for the fire as yet??? Make sure your fire inspectors and and fire prevention bureau do the investigative job they are supposed to do. I work for the local fire department here and if I be of any help...let me know.

I so agree with Ann..our pet is like our second child..and we certainly understand your grief over your pets...our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
