Ok in the weeks leading up to our European vacation in May, DBF and I slacked off on running to pack, shop, etc. We were gone for 13 days and didn't run. We get back and slowly start running again. Now it is has been hot and humid for over 3 weeks...too hot to run, IMO. We were trying to do the morning thing but that hasn't worked out very well. Now here we are about 5 months away from the Disney Half and we have ran probably less than a dozen times since the end of May. Its been one excuse after another as to why we don't have time to run. I think we lost our momentum and I'm not sure how we get it back. I'm hoping that once school starts back up and all of us are on a more normal schedule again it will help but that is a month away. Help me get back my motivation! I AM GOING TO RUN THE HALF COME HELL OR HIGH WATER!

Thanks. :)

Not sure what to offer for help. Just a big  on getting your motivation back. Hopefully cooler weather will help.......P

 Here's what I do. I schedule my workouts a week (or two) at a time. I put it all in writing. I have a pact with myself that I have to go for at least 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes I am miserable I can go home/stop. There have been lots of times that I have had to force myself to start and do the first five minutes, but I have never stopped after starting. A couple of times, Dh has had to say it hasn't been 5 minutes yet, but by the time we were 5 minutes into a run, I was good to go! :goodvibes

Good luck!

I get what you are saying about the heat! Here in the Houston area, it is unbearably, dangerously, hot and humid. I find that I need to run very early (start between 6 and 7 am) or I need to run on a treadmill. I had an episode last summer with heat exhaustion (blood pressure shot down, vomiting, really bad headache) so this year I am being VERY careful.

I know that treadmill running isn't that same, for various reasons, but is there any way you can take your running indoors for a bit?

Good luck, and don't be too hard on yourself. You will get back to it!

I do my four runs during the week indoors on a treadmill. It sucks but there's nowhere I really feel "safe" running around here alone at night and I don't do mornings before work :). If I DVR shows I really want to watch that really helps or a podcast or something to listen to on my iTouch.

I run my long runs on Saturday and the humidity S-U-C-K-S but if I get out there about 6:30 a.m., get it done and over with, I feel sooooo much better after and I try to remind myself of that the next Saturday when I feel like I just want to quit because of the humidity.

Maybe watch some Disney half marathon/marathon video on YouTube? I know when I watch what it'll actually be like I get excited and even more into my training. Good luck! If you find a routine that works for you and are consistent then you'll miss it if you skip any days. You still have plenty of time though!

Ha...I'm still off the wagon. :( I had hurt my back and have been going to a chiropractor. Then I had finals to finish up (which I did last night.) I was nervous about starting back up but I'm ready now. :thumbsup2

We are planning on running Sat - Mon - Wed then getting back to our regular schedule on 8/23. Hopefully with school starting and things being 'normal' again it will be easier to keep with a schedule.

I have registered us for a 5K on 9/12 so there is no turning back now.

I should also probably register for the half soon too. lol

Well. I'm a little back on the wagon but still not all the way there yet. To help motivate myself I joined a Fit for Life Boot Camp. I had been thinking about it but finally signed up today. It starts on Labor day and lasts for 4 weeks. So, 12 classes in all. It starts at 5:30AM! So I figure I will run after I finish that work out and I will be done with exercise and running for the day. Yay!

Depending on how this goes I might sign up for a personal trainer. Its pricey but I figure I spend that much on clothes and this will lead to a healthier, better me. :thumbsup2

I'm getting excited about running and exercising again and that's what is important. :thumbsup2

I would suggest using your running as x-training for the non-boot days. I dunno, but after a typical boot session (at least the ones I lead and participate in) it is kind of hard to not kiss and slober all over the floor. Gross, but a great boot session will literally depleat your glycogen stores.

So you suggest NOT running after those sessions? lol
