Since we got back from our vow renewal back in July I have not been able to get back on track. I have actually gained back about 15 of the 25 pounds I lost. I am so mad at myself. I keep saying I will hop back on but I dont.

Now for the interesting problem. We took my eldest son in for growth hormone testing last Wednesday and our Ped endocrinologist wants us to try a HIGH calorie diet for him to see if that will spur on his growth. He is on ADHD meds and doesnt eat the way he should. My youngest is also on the same med but in a lower dose and is also very thin like my eldest. He is however still growing. I just cant figure out how I am going to do a high calorie, fat diet for the kids and still lose weight myself. With our schedules making two meals is out of the question. I know Atkins is much higher in fat and calories but it doesnt agree with my IBS at all. Is this maybe something that will settle if I keep with the diet long enough?? It really would be the best thing for the kids because of the fat and calories in it and yet it would allow me to lose weight also and dh who also needs to lose weight. I just dont know what to do! Im so confused and I could really really really use some help.

It was my understanding that Atkins helps the symptoms of IBS but everyone is different so who knows?

Could you feed your son the same food you eat but add extra butter and cheese on his veggies, etc? Give him more bread, perhaps a little more sugar, whole milk instead of skim?

Kath I have the opposite type of IBS than a lot of people have. I dont have to run to the bathroom I can stay out of there for days on end.

We cant do cheese sauce on things because neither of them will eat it. Neither is very much of a bread eater either. I can make a sandwhich for them and they pull off the bread and eat the meat LOL. We have never ever used lowfat or skim milk with them. We have always used whole milk.

Dh suggested just eating what they eat and then the whole family taking a long walk after dinner. I reminded him that while it would be good for us it wouldnt be for the kids because they would burn off what we are trying to fill them up with....calories.

Accck Accck Accck trying to figure this out is giving me one whopper of a headache

My sil takes the Fiber Con tablets for that opposite IBS symptom.

I know we have at least two nutritionist WISHers. Perhaps they have some suggestions for you for your sons.

Kath how does the Fiber Con work for your SIL?? Heck Im willing to try anything. Is she on Atkins? Does it affect how Atkins works for her??

The more I think about it and about how picky my boys are the more Atkins makes sense to me. I can just make carbs for the boys to eat and make them with butter or cream or both. They will eat mashed potatos, pasta, and rice with butter. Dh and I can eat the meat and a veggie as our carb. No making two meals and it will serve to have the kids gain/maintain weight and dh and I lose weight. It might be hard on my IBS to begin with but it may even out if I use the fiber Con and give it more of a try than just a few days.

Yes, she is on Atkins. She seems to feel that the Fiber Con takes care of the problem. It took her a while to figure out how many she needed to take every day but she finally did.

If you don't have a problem being around ice cream you could make your boys milk shakes, too.

Kath now that you have told me that your SIL is doing Atkins and is using Fiber Con for her IBS which is the same type as mine it really has spurred me on to really trying to do Atkins for me and dh and just adding carbs in for the kids. One meal to make and everyone gets what they need.

Im not a big ice cream eater so that would be a good idea. I could make the milkshakes out of the Boost Plus which is already higher in calories plus ice cream. The kids would love that as a dessert!!

I think I will be smart about it this time and start on Friday so that the worst carb withdrawl days are over the weekend.
