and my first thought was "I am glad no one saw me!" Then I checked to see if I was hurt. Thank goodness not many people take the stairs. :lmao:

I was walking in a hotel stairwell, the heel on my shoe seems like it got caught in the carpet and I fell down the last couple of steps. My computer bag went flying - it was very undignified. My knee and my right hand are a little sore, but overall fine.

Why is it when we trip, fall, etc we are more worried about being seen versus being hurt? Or is it just me?:)

Nope, I do it too! Then I usually bust out laughing at myself imagining what I must have looked like!

Sorry you fell...hopefully you will feel better and nothing else comes about. I know once I fell down the steps and a couple days later I realized I had muscle aches in places I didn't even know there were muscles...!

Last year I was in a store which was underground in a mall. To get out you had to go up the stairs. DH and I were in separate parts of the store when the store lost power.

I went up the stairs to see if he was there and then stupidly went back down. I missed a step and fell onto the landing half way down. I was happy I was alone. I picked myself up and carefully went to find DH.

When we were leaving the mall I told him what happened. He said, did you report the fall to the store? I told him no, what was I going to say, that I was stupid enough to walk on the stairs when I knew it was dark?

You guys are lucky...I missed the bottom stair coming down a long staircase last year and landed on my knees on a concrete floor. I didn't break any bones but I tore my quad muscle in my right leg completely across. I couldn't move the lower half of my leg (no muscle attached). In one respect I was lucky that there were people around otherwise who knows how long I might have been laying there on the floor. I had nothing to grab and no way to lift myself up and no way to get anywhere if I could. And yes, it did hurt a tad.

Anyway, one surgery and three months later I was back to work. That was a over a year ago and I still don't have the strength completely back in my leg. Something about some damaged nerve endings complete with a 5% disability and a cash settlement. (not asked for by the way, but given by workers comp.) I can walk upstairs with effort but coming down them requires something really sturdy to hang onto. Same with walking down an incline. Not fun.

:grouphug: Hope you heal quickly. Sometimes the real "hurt/pain" comes later, like 24 hours later...so be aware and if still sore or there are issues get checked out!

:scared1: Holy cow! I'm glad you're all right. Christian took a fall down a flight of stairs at Christmas and fractured his hip! I'm glad nothing is hurt but your feelings. You're going to be really sore tomorrow, i bet. :goodvibes

I once slipped and fell down the stairs at the multi-level Foley's (now Macy's) in downtown Houston. I didn't hurt a thing but my pride.

Yeah, wednesday my foot got caught on the blanket that was hanging off the side of my bed. Down I went! Nothing hurt but my pride (and a sore hip bone for about 30 minutes, those hardwood floors aren't great for falling down on). Thankfully no one was around to see!

Thanks everyone for the replies. It's nice to know I am not the only one.

The fall happened yesterday on a business trip. I am feeling fine today.

Goofyernmost I hope you get back to 100%.

I never thought of telling the hotel I fell. That would have been very embarrassing!

Several years ago, my older brother and his family were coming to visit. They were driving and were expected to arrive sometime after 3 am at my house. I told him to ring the bell, we'd get them inside and in bed right away.

Well, doorbell rings and I hop up out of bed and head for the front door. Hit the top step - still mostly asleep - and my foot slipped out from under me.

All 12 steps I fell down on my bottom. You know how kids will 'slide' down wooden steps? That's what I did. Landed at the very bottom, stunned, but ok.

Or so I thought.

Fast forward to later on that morning when I really woke up. My back was achy, my 'backside' sore.

I went in the bathroom, dropped my pants and looked.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

You would have thought someone beat me with a 2x4. My whole bottom was as blue as this guy :scared1:.

It was nearly a month before it was all gone. I'm surprised I didn't break my tailbone.

I have made a few embarrassing falls in my day. However, the most embarassing had to be at my aunt's funeral.
Everyone was gathering out in front of the funeral parlour while my aunt's coffin was being placed in the hearse. As I proceeded down the steps, I lost my footing and did summersaults down the steps and landed on my back at the bottom. I was mortified!

I fell down a flight of stairs at my school a few years ago. Talk about embarrassing. I was dismissing my class and I was at the back of the line. Luckily, the majority of my class was already out the door when my skirt got caught in the heel of my boot. I fell backwards on the top step and literally slid down 10-15 stairs on my butt. The few kids that were left were very concerned, one ran and got the nurse and the others were just sort of in shock. I was black and blue for a while after that.

Back in December I fell down the stairs in my house. My washer/dryer are in my basement and I was carrying a pile of clothes down the stairs. I forgot that I had also thrown some things down earlier. Apparently, the entire pile didn't get to the bottom and I ended up slippiing on some clothes and I fell down the whole flight of stairs. At least I had a soft pile of clothes at the bottom to catch me.

I was staying with a friend who had a multi-level house, the kitchen was up on the top, living room in the middle, and basement on the bottom. More than once after going to get dinner, my foot would slide right off the edge of the step. Next thing i knew I was sliding down on my butt 3 or 4 steps. I guess the rise/run was slightly different than most staircases. But never once did I spill my plate of food. And it was carpeted, so no bruises.

Falling down the stairs?:confused3 I do not understand that concept, I only fall up them:lmao:

I think the first 5 seconds are thinking about if anything hurts when I fall and if nothing hurts too badly then I start to freak about the possible embarrassment.

Ouch! Hope you aren't too sore tomorrow!

Our first Christmas, DH and I had been together about 4 months. We went to DSis's house for lunch. At the time she was living in an old farm house with the bedrooms in the converted attic. DH and I go up put our coats on the bed and then come back down, me first and then my very tall DH. His extra large feet didn't fit on the tiny stairs, he slipped, not only falling down the stairs, but taking me with him! We landed in a heap at the bottom in front of my family... :rotfl:

Yes, you should be thankful no one was around!

:grouphug: I hope your hand and knee feel better quickly.

I can so understand the "who saw me" issue as well. I fell down the stairs this evening at a friend's house and my backside hurts as I hit the corner (outside wood steps). My friend and her ex laughed at me but my friend did at least ask if I was okay. Talk about embarassing.

I have not fell going down the stairs only up I fall. Two weeks ago when walking up the stairs I missed my footing because the shoes I was wearing are too big for my feet. Hurt ,y right wrist but after icing it for 20 minutes I was okay.

When I was a cute young thing I used to work in NYC. One day I was walking past a truck with some cute construction workers and I was trying to be 'cool'. Well, I tripped on something and went down. I was mortified and the guys did laugh but to their credit they also jumped put of the truck and ran over to help me up. Nothing damaged but my pride and my tights!! I still laugh about it but at the time...:scared1:

This is quite a coincidence but I signed into Facebook this morning to find a message from one of my daughters saying that she fell down the stairs this morning. Bruised her arm and her ego. The only one that knew she fell was her 9 year old son. He asked if she had fallen down the stairs, she replied that she had and he said..."good, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has done that here." :rotfl:

I guess I was lucky when I fell because I had so many other issues that it didn't occur to me to be embarrassed by it. I guess luck is what you make it.
