My 13yo kitty was just diagnosed with high blood sugar and sugar in her urine. She has been feeling punky and vomiting more than usual. She is a grouchy, pukey kitty already but lately even more so.

The initial vet, my regular vet was not available last Friday, has suggested putting her on a dry perscription diet like Hills DM or Purina DM. She suggested dry because my kittie has never eaten wet and has refused it in the past. She warned me that the diet can be very hard on the kidneys and my kitty is already showing signs of kidney distress.

After doing some research online I'm finding that a high quality, wet diet, low in carbs and high in protein can reverse the high blood sugar and help with the kidneys. Has anyone here tried this approach to Feline Diabetes? We're not at the insulin stage yet and I sure don't want to end up there.

I would suggest finding out ASAP if there is a cats only clinic/hospital within driving distance. There is one in the Orlando area that I use; there are three doctors and they will only treat cats. They really are specialists and that may be what you need.

I just did a Google search on 'cat only vet seattle' and got more than 10 results.
