Feet hanging off the bed/Value-moderate room problem

We're 90% sure we're going to be staying off-property for our early December trip. However we're thinking about staying on-property if free dining is offered for early December stays. Should that happen, we'll be looking to book a value/moderate room (under $150) that qualifies for the free dining package.

The problem is that I am tall - about 6' 3". When I sleep in a double bed, my feet hang off the bottom and I'm uncomfortable to the point that I'm sometimes unable to sleep. A queen bed works out alright -- those few extra inches make all the difference.

So basically I'm wondering if there are any value or moderate rooms on Disney property that have queen beds and can accomodate two adults and two children. If not, what are the least expensive rooms that qualify for the dining plan and have queen beds?

No, none of the mods have that configuration. Probably the two cheapest deluxes are Animal Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge.


However, I have to be honest. I doubt this is going to be an issue. I don't think free dining has EVER been offered in December and I can't see it happening this year.

If you require

1. Four people in the room
2. Beds larger than doubles

you do not have many options other than the deluxe resorts of which AKL and WL would be the least expensive.

One other option would be the family suites at ASMu - not sure if they are eligible for the free DDP though - I understand than no suites participate in the discounts.

This really is all moot, the chances of Disney offering any sort of free dining in December is less then the chances of Bush being reelected for a third term.

I realize it's not too likely they'll offer free dining then, but you never know. They've been making a big effort to increase business in the slower times. And the first two weeks of December are the two slowest weeks of the year.

Not any more. They're nowhere near as slow as the two weeks after Labor Day, or the second week of January up to MLK day.

According to other posts, the DVC resorts are already full for that time (it's extremely popular for DVC bookings) and the Mousefest attendees are starting to worry about getting AP rates.

Free dining has basically only been offered during peak hurricane season. Most likely the best you will be able to do onsite in December is book a future stay for August or September 2008 with free dining, if WDW sees fit to offer the bounceback booking program again.

No WDW values or moderates, other than king bed rooms which will not accommodate a family, have beds larger than doubles (with the exception of suites, and suites have never been eligible for the discounted packages).

I agree! The two first weeks of December are definately not lacking in bringing in people. Every time we go at that time it seems that the secret's out. It's still not as crowded as the summer or holiday weeks but it was the same crowd wise on our last two December trips as it was when we went in May. I don't think there will ever be a time that Disney has to offer free dining during December (even the room discounts were hard to come by for our trip last year).

AKL and WL are probably your only choices for two queen beds, like other posters have said. WL is the most popular resort during the Christmas season.

Oh, also my fiance is 6'5" and when we stayed at POR and CSR last time he hated the double beds (our king bed reservation got messed up ). But he loved the queens at the Poly.

Sorry, that's no longer the case. Hasn't been for some time now. Folks who went at the beginning of Dec. last year reported pretty heavy crowds, and Disney packs in the youth sports groups at that time, too. All the Christmas decorations are up, and that draws people.

Free dining has only been offered in Aug/Sept 2006 and 2007, and that was only because the bad hurricane season that FL experienced in 2005 caused bookings to be unusually low the following year. It had never been offered previously, and has never been offered at any other time of year.

You might well see AP discounts in early December, but there's no way you'll get free dining.
