Feelings on nudists

I think as a nation we are pretty much overly sensitive about the human body. Of course if someone isn't comfortable naked or near naked that is their choice, but I have found people who are more open with their bodies and sexuality are generally less self conscious and not as worried about what other people think.

I know quite a few people who go to clothing optional resorts with their children and all of them are much more comfortable with themselves, especially the tween and teen-aged girls, then seems standard in our society. They get their self image from themselves, which is where it should come from, and not from what television or magazines say you should be. Allowing someone else to form your self image is just something I never understood.

Trust me, no one wants to see me nude. Stretch marks and buffalo humps really aren't flattering... But I don't have a problem if someone else wants to be nude at a clothing optional resort or a nude beach.

When I was about 19 I took a part time job dog sitting in a home for a very nice couple in their late 20's with no kids. They left for the weekend and I went into the den to use the restroom. Boy did I walk in to something unexpected. All over the walls were 8x10 photos of this couple, some together and some were individual shots of just the husband or just the wife....totally nude!!! I know I should have just walked straight into the bathroom and not looked but....come on, it was literally impossible not to. It was just so weird and akward when they came home and I had to look them in the eye and pretend I never saw them.

The only thing that annoys me about nudity is some of the comments on this post. " There are certain people who I think shouldn't be allowed to wear shorts around others nonetheless be full nudists." " They really should have used body doubles or models if they actually wanted people to live there."

What does it matter what they look like if they want to live there. people on the brochure are real people and they want you to know that real people live there and they look like the rest of us and are not all models or have great bodies, they are normal people. Also since when do we get to judge who shouldn't be allowed to wear certain clothes. yes, some things look better on others but not so much on some but if they have the guts to wear it then why not.

this is why our children are so worried about what they look like, the adults too ! Everyone is always judging you by how you look and what you wear. I say, more power to them and maybe I'll visit them someday, as long as i can get my DH to go with me. Attitudes like these are why my girls won't change ion the locker room without hiding. I don't care who sees what, if they want to look that is their business. I won't hide or feel ashamed cuz my body is not perfect. I think I look better naked than in some of the clothes that they make now.

I don't care. It's not sexual. There are certain things that I can't imagine doing naked, though...bike riding anyone? It would really cut down on the laundry, which would be great! But, like PPs would say, there are parts of me NOBODY wants to see! Clothes are great baby stretch mark camo!

I personally don't care what others do, but any time I have ever seen (on TV) a nudist colony (like on HBO's Real S**) the people are NOT attractive. Like I have never seen a nudist (again on TV) who looked worthy of walking naked! They all looked flabby and worn out!
Bring on the young, tight and wrinkle free HBO!!!

On a different note...I have never been asked to visit a nudist colony/beach, but one of my husband's friends from High School asked him if we would like to join he and his girlfriend at a swinger's party!!!! We politely declined.

But alas...that is another topic for another thread!

There was a Seinfeld episode where Jerry's girlfriend would walk around nude and she had strain to open a pickle jar and I think she was fixing her bike, it was so funny. You can be comfortable with your body and self image, but there are definitelty things the body does that nobody needs to see. Laying by the pool- A-OK, jogging along it- no thanks

I have no interest in being a nudist, but I'm all for having places where people can go if that's their choice. When I was in Jamaica we were on the beach at a hotel. The next hotel over was a nudist resort. You could see people in the distance laying on the beach, playing volleyball, etc., but the two resorts were split by a fence so one couldn't wander to the other.

There was a family set up next to us with a little girl that went out snorkling with her father. I guess they went a little too far because they came back and the father was very red in the face. He said they came up at one point and they were right in front of the nudist resort.

As far as sitting on chairs and things, I believe most people carry a towel around to sit on. I'm sure they wouldn't want to be sitting where someone elses bare butt was any more than you would.

Or..this may be TMI for guys so skip to the next post if you are a guy..girls, you can relate and KWIM. What about when it's that time of the month? I doubt anyone wants to see that tampon string hanging out. Or what about when it's not that time..but your body IS getting ready for that time..you know us gals, we can have some interesting discharges especially around ovulation and stuff. How do you deal with that stuff at a nudist colony?

Here is my totally honest answer. When I was a little girl, our neighbors across the street were nudists. I saw them nude several times as I would walk up to their house to play with their daughter. They would quickly scramble to find their robes as I rang the doorbell. I thought it was funny and would giggle. As I got older, it started to gross me out because I knew that they were sitting on their couches and at their kitchen table totally naked. I never wanted to sit on their furniture for that reason - I just felt like things were unsanitary.

I don't understand the whole nudist thing, but to each their own.
