I was so happy to hear Jim talk about his love for Hershey on this weeks podcast. As much as I love Disney, I consider Hershey my first love. As a child, my parents couldn't afford to take me to Disney(didn't get to Disney until I was an adult.) We went to Hershey every year. It was my Disney. Now I love taking my kids there every year. I've thought about moving to Florida to be closer to the mouse, but then I would have to plan trips back up here at least once a year to go to Hershey:) Yes Hershey is different in some ways but it also reminds me of Disney in some ways. It is always very clean and family oriented. The song from the Chocolate Tour sticks in your head just like Small World does. I don't know if I think that Hershey beets Disney at Christmas, but it is very magical. It is OK to love places other than Disney. I n fact, I would love to hear about other places that people love as much as they love Disney.

You sound pretty much like I am. Hershey and WDW are my top two theme park draws. Well not just the theme park aspect of it but I really admire the two men that founded both companies - Milton Hershey and Walt Disney. Both came from failure to fortune. I would've loved to have met both of them. When I step into both parks, I feel like I'm "home" so they're both not just ordinary parks to me. I usually go to Hershey many times a year as I live 40 min (little to no traffic) away from there - I attend all the seasonal events there and visit many times over the summer season. We don't usually hit WDW every year but maybe every other year or so when enough new things have been opened.

Any other Hershey lovers here (besides WDW obviously lol) on this board?

Thanks Tardin1964 for the great link about Milton Hershey. I agree I enjoy reading about his story just like I enjoy Walt Disney's story. Have you been to the Milton Hershey Museum in Hershey? Very interesting well put together museum.

For me, my wife couldn't ever get me to Disney because of Hershey. I live very close and am on property a few times a week (Hershey Bears season ticket holder), but I can't stand the park. When we were kids, we had season passes but as an adult I wanted no parts of it. In fact because of my Bears season tickets I get a dozen or more Hershey Park passes each year which I promptly give away.

My wife had always wanted to go to Disney, but I refused. If I don't care for Hershey and it is close and cheap, why spend a smell fortune on Disney?

Well, we went to a work conference in Orlando 3 years ago and I was drug to Hollywood Studios for an afternoon. After I got over the $100 per day price tag, I was floored. Wow, this is completely different. The next year we spent 11 days at Boardwalk. This year we are DVC members, annual pass holders, and will be spending close to 30 days at Disney.

Still won't go to Hershey Park.

I do like seeing the Troegs brewery (next to the park) sticker on Shaun's laptop. My daughter is a bartender in their tasting room and I am enjoying a few of their "Master of Pumpkins" brews now.

Two theme parks here in the Midwest our family loves: Holiday World (free parking, soft drinks and suntan lotion!)in Indiana and Silver Dollar City near Branson, MO.

SDC in particular has great theming and continues its tradition of offering craft demonstrations, quality musical acts (no lumberjack shows here) and some great rides. It's pretty reasonably-priced too and they do a good job sprucing up the park for the holidays.

I am the same way with Hersheypark...I like going every once and a while, but not like I used to as a kid. I am also a Bears season ticket holder and I usually give my free tickets away too. My cousin and his wife have 3 kids and really can't afford to all pay full price to get in. If it helps them go one day, I would rather help them.
