I recently taught myself how to make almond milk and how to make almond flour from the meal that is left from the milk. I use a lot of almond milk and after taking a look at the ingedients list on the side of the package I thought I should at least give it a go.
my son no longer eats glutton so the almond flour was a bonus. I had priced it out at Costco and it was $22 for a smallish bag.

long story short, it costs me $16 for what I would need to spend $125 on in a store. I'm really liking this.

now I need to find how to make other things. any one do any of this sort of stuff?

p.s.- recently bought the book 'artisian bread in 5 minutes a day' and that is working out wonderfully! great ideas.

I made the almond milk once and didn't think it was worth the amount of money I spent on the almonds. And the "flour" never dried out. How did you do it?

Good for you! You should feel very accomplished!

We use almond milk and almond flour. I love the Honeyville almond flour which is very fine. How does the homemade compare? I have bought other brands and they have been very grainy which I don't care for.

i dried it on cookie trays in the oven at 200 degrees. it can still feel a touch wet when you bring it out but once you blend it and let it sit for ten minutes it will feel completely dry. as for cost, i was buying it by the case which i could purchase at costco, 6 boxes for $10. the almonds cost me $16 and makes 10 batches of two quarts each. it doesn't save a ton but i'm also not putting things in my body that i don't know what they are. and its fresh! hasn't sat on a shelve for two months. that alone is a seller for me then add in the fact i get the almond flour. win win!

the almond flour will turn out as fine as you want. i just put some in the blender and keep it blending till it is to the point i want. i do it in small amounts so there is room in the blender for it to move and its not bogged down with weight. i don't care for heavy flour either.

I like cook and make things also just to see if I can. :) The latest was homemade mozzarella. It is SO easy! It's all about the temperature of the milk and not rushing it. That cheese tasted really good with my fresh garden tomatoes. :thumbsup2

What kind of blender do you have?

Do you have any good links for directions?

i used my cuisinart blender until recently. i have just bought a ninja and now use that. to be honest the i liked it from the cuisiinart best but the ninja cleans up so much better. so much easier.

i watched these two videos several times before i decided to try making the almond milk.

it was the second video that convinced me that since i use so much of it i really needed to at least try and make it. i don't need the extra ingredients that they put in it to extend the shelf life.

Maybe I should try again... We go through a LOT of almond milk.
