Something I noticed on our last trip (earlier this month) is that the superb service at the WDW restaurants that we have always experienced was lacking at more than half of our meals. We also felt like we were being rushed through some of the meals and there were sloppy mistakes being made.
Our first meal was at WCC for breakfast on the day we arrived at WDW. My DH got the skillet and his biscuit was MIA. Our server seemed like she would rather have been having a root canal than working. My Dh ordered the skillet and had to hunt our server down when he wanted seconds.
At 50's PTC we asked about getting some rolls with our dinner (we are bread people) and the server told us that they could get us some from the neighboring restaurant (that they share a kitchen with) since they don't stock rolls. She made a huge production about how difficult it would be to get us rolls and completely discouraged us from getting them. Then as soon as most of our food was gone off of our plates she was bringing out the desserts which should have gone to a different table. We did order desserts but not the ones that were brought out. We had made a comment when we ordered about how one of our favorite servers at WCC had been a server at 50s PTC and when we described him she asked another server about it and then said "Oh, I remember him. He was one of the annoying ones.".
At WCC, for dinner one night, our food arrived within five minutes of our order being taken. This would have been great except it was someone else's food and half of our table, including five kids ages 3-8, had the wrong food. A few more minutes go by and our server zips by. We grabbed her to inform her that we didn't have the correct food and 10-15 mintues later more food comes out. This time 5 out of 7 meals are correct and the half of the table that got the skillet was trying to get seconds on their food. Eventually everyone had the correct food but what should have been a 1-1.5 hr. meal was almost a 2.5 hr. meal.
Of the TS meals that we ate (we had eight TS meals) the only two that stand out for really good service would be the Kona Cafe for dinner, Mama Melrose for lunch and Sci-Fi for lunch. So at 38% of our meals we felt like they were rushing to bring out food to our table and due to that making mistakes, or we were ignored or we felt like the CMs were just downright grumpy and let it show. I understand that people have off days and most of the CMs that we encounter are wonderful but most of the servers we encountered were just going through the motions. I didn't feel this way about the restaurant CMs during our May '08 trip or previous trips at all.
