Feeling odd about recent decision *Update Page 7*

There's something REALLY wrong with this system and I would like to see the politicians or whoever comes up with these guidelines live with that.

Dax I am so sorry that they denied you , like someone said that is the reason why sometimes people have to lie. Do not feel ashamed to apply for anything , do what you need to do to survive , plain and simple.

Yeah when I applied, I put I was married...and therefore had to include DH's in the app. So what, do I apply and say I am not married..or seperated? I mean at this point, this is where it is going.

As for pantries..I did look into one that was local, and lets just say we walked away with nothing. Most of the food was very ethnic(spanish fare) since that is what is in this area. Neither DH nor I eat that, so we politely declined. I have gotten some things from friends though, so we are OK for now.

I was feeling VERY depressed yesterday. I am feeling like a failure in my life right now, and I think it all hit me at once. I ended up very sick, with a migraine, and I cried my eyes out for hours. I am a bit better today, and hope I have turned the corner on that front.

I thank everyone here on the DIS who have sent me PM's with encouragement, and also have posted here with prayers. It means a lot that a group of internet strangers can be so supportive.

you are not a failure.. a failure is some that lives that way everyday and thinks nothing of it.. one that scams the system for that very reason.. you are a tax payer needing help.. that is not a failure, that is one who needs the help and falls thru the cracks..
I think the cracks need to be filled by us tax payers and those who are clogging up the cracks need to be tossed out on their butts to start putting into the system once in a while as all of us have.. then maybe they can collect from it.. again, you are not a failure .. don't ever think that....

Check out another food shelter.

And check out your local Catholic Charities or your local Catholic church's St Vincent DePaul Society. You DO NOT have to be Catholic to use their services....

You should apply for the food stamps and utilize the assistance. You have paid into this system (roughly 1/3 of your income) for years. Getting a hundred or two a month for a few months back is not a big deal in the scheme of things. IMO, You are owed this. This is intended to be a form of transitional assistance not a lifestyle choice. On slick deals I read about a free cell phone and small monthly minute package for elderly and low income folks. Not all states have this. I do think FLorida had it , but, I can't recall for sure. If you are interested , or this would help you , PM me and I will try to go to slickdeals for you and see if I can find the posts / thread about this for you. Take care , know that this is just a temporary hurdle, life is long and better things are ahead. Get whatever help is needed and focus on trying different things to better you and your family. I recommend you take that day trip to Disney and get another one if you can. It is good to dream a little , not get too depressed. Don't be broken by your circumstances. Stay hopeful, positive and you will be fine.

Like most here, I am so frustrated by those who know how to "work the system" and make a game of ripping off the American taxpayer. You are the very kind of person that really needs the help and that we would want our tax dollars to be spent helping. I think you will find that local charities will help in a more personal and thorough way than our big government ever will. Go to the pantries and the churches. You will be glad you did! Keep us posted on your situation.

I am looking into another pantry...right now we are doing ok again...Got some extra money from anniversary, so it was enough to help out. I think in the grand scheme of things, a lot of things hit me at once, and I think I sorta broke down. I had myself a really good cry, and now that my migraine is gone, I am doing much better.

Just some info, I know it has already been suggested...cell service, is already down to the bare bones. I let my Net 10 lapse, and DH is carrying his as he is out of the house all the time. Its $20 a month, so we can handle it. Thanks for the suggestions though

So sorry to hear about your struggles. I went through something similar when I was on unemployment. We did not qualify for Food Stamps because I have some $ in a 401K. Luckily I was able to find another job before my unemployment ran out. I hope you can do the same. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. This happened to my sister as well, we live in FL. My BIL suffered 2 strokes leaving him disabled, he is like a 5 year old. It took 2 times before he was approved for disability ! My sister works cleaning offices, making minimum wage, no health benefits, no pension. But since BIL disability check + her minimum wage job she is considered "rich" that's what the social services lady told her when she went to apply for foodstamps because after she paid her mortgage, insurance for the car, gas, BIL meds she had almost no $ left over, she was told to be happy my BIL gets disability but get this no Medicaid. We found a low income health program for him through the local hospital so he can get basic care & thankfully the 2 years are almost here & he can qualify for medicaid. But we all chip in as much as we can so they have groceries. Imagine if she had no family ?? I don't get the system sometimes. She is grateful for his disability check since for almost 1 year he had no income & she was working 3 jobs & he was home alone all this time.

Just hang in there.
