Feeling Hot Hot Hot! The Rain Curse is Broken! Two Weeks of Fun in the Sun! COMPLETE

Hi Lessa,

We met during your May 2009 trip before your cruise. I just found this TR and look forward to reading it in the next few days.

Kristi

Seuss Landing looks like fun. Actually, it looks like something that my mother would LOVE!!! Guess we will be exploring more than just the Wizarding World of Harry Potter when we visit Universal. :thumbsup2

Isn't Suess Landing adorable?! Been there a few times but have never ridden anything. I think I need to ride the overhead trolley thing. :cool1:

Hi Kristis! Nice to see you around the boards again. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Now to convince you to visit the other three sections of the park as well. ;):rotfl:

Adorable is the perfect way to describe it! Heck, you don't even need to ride anything to have fun there as it is visually entertaining.

Welcome!

Yes, the Volcano we rode was at King's Dominion. Canada's Wonderland up here in Toronto is nearly identical to King's Dominion except it is lacking Volcano! We lived in Virginia Beach for 6 years so we went to King's a few times although we mainly visited Busch Gardens (had season's passes almost every year). Alpengeist is still my favourite coaster, I would love to go back and try the new coaster, Griffin I think? Anyways.... thanks for reading and commenting! I love to hear from the lurkers!

Thanks! Glad to be here.
Oh wow! I honestly thought that was a long shot, there is surely another roller coaster out there called the Volcano, but that's awesome! That ride is amazing. My family used to always get season passes to Kings Dominion so I rode that A LOT. It's been a while since I've been though. We live about 30 minutes from KD and about an hour and a half from Busch Gardens... but yes, if you ever make it back to Williamsburg, Griffon is a must-do. It's amazing, especially if you sit in the front row, on either end of the row. There's no track under you and it honestly feels like you're flying. Alpengeist is awesome as well!
You're very welcome, I'll be excited to read more! I'm a lurker no more. :lmao:

Just letting you know I'm still here reading along. I have basically zero time anymore, but do have to keep tabs on my homies around here ;)

Loved teh last update! Suess looks so fun and alive!

I loved Volcano, Erich, not so much.

I am in the same boat. Readings for class, attending class, clinical prep work, attending clinical, working my actual paying job and then studying for midterms and writing papers. :rotfl:

May 13th continued

After Alek and Erich failed to pull the sword from the stone we decided to go see Philharmagic. I love this show! It is one of my favourite attractions at WDW. Remember how the tea cups make me motion sick? Well this show has a tendency to do that as well but only during the Aladdin scene and it is not nearly as bad as spinning on the tea cups so I put up with it. Does this happen to anybody else or am I just weird? :confused3

]

The Aladdin scene can make me dizzy as well. I tend to squint during that part. I have to squint during the city scene in Soarin' as well. I haven't been on the tea cups since they made me dizzy several years ago ... :sad2: .... it used to be one of my favorite rides.

Isn't it awful when you can no longer go on your favourites? I used to love the spinning tea cup type rides as well. :sad2:

Having oohed and awwed over the decor of Seuss Landing, we decided it was time to get on a ride. We went on the first one we had seen upon entering this section of the park, the "High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride". The ride is themed after Suess' Star-Bellied Sneetches story. There are big pictures depicting the story as you go through the queue.

The queue gradually inclines, no inclined moving sidewalk here! ;) Once you get to the top ride platform you are directed to the left or the right, we went to the right. Once again there were signs up saying no photography, you already know what I think about that!

If you want to compare this to a WDW ride it would be most similar to the TTA/Peoplemover.You sit in a car that takes you around an area of the park and through some buildings. You get great views of the surrounding area, there are no surprises, just a nice calm ride around Seuss Landing from up high.

A blurry picture of Mythos and Hogwarts.

The ride was fine and definitely good for all ages and people which is a plus in a park that does not have a lot that is available for the whole family whether it is because of age, height, or non-thrill seekers.

We stopped in the candy shop/bakery and drooled over all the baked goods.

We proceeded through Seuss Landing to find our next ride.

Would it be

or

or

We opted for The Cat in the Hat, I believe it was Mom who championed this ride.

IMG_2417.jpg

The Cat in the Hat is your traditional dark ride but it seemed to be a little more amped up than the dark rides we had been on at Disney. The turns seemed a bit faster and a little more "violent". They definitely whipped the ride car around a few times. Alek and Erich were not bothered by this but it definitely had its effect on Mom, because of her MS she is very susceptible to motion sickness from that kind of movement. Even I felt a little green when I got off but I was not nearly as bad Mom. I think most people would be fine on this ride like Alek and Erich. It is another ride that is good for the whole family.

IMG_2415.jpg

After Cat in the Hat we did not go on any more rides in Seuss Landing. We skipped over the fish ride and the carousel. Both looked like good family friendly fun and I dare you to find a cooler looking carousel!

Alek and Erich were drawn in by this

They decided that they would return there for dinner.

With that we left Seuss Landing, it was 1:45 and we had already experienced half of the park with a table service meal!

Edited to add: Quick 20 second video of Seuss Landing, you can catch of a glimpse of the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride as it passes by.

I didn't realize there was a TTA-type ride at IOA. I must have missed it last time. :confused3

We did get on Cat in the hat and I thought it was pretty cute- but I'm with you, it was a little wild for a kids ride, I can understand feeling a little green afterwards!

oh, that Dr Seuss ride (TTA-like) looks really fun for the kids and me too!

So they didnt want people taking photos on the ride? I guess they are afraid people will drop their cameras?

It looks to me like a perfect ride to sit, relax and take a few photos!:thumbsup2

Yep, it is the last ride on the right as you are heading towards The Lost Continent. Just look up! ;)

Yeah, I was so surprised at how jerky it was!

Pretty much all the rides/attractions had signs up saying "No Cameras!". I think it is a ridiculous rule. I know they are two different parks but if WDW allows cameras on their rides (minus flash), I don't see why Universal doesn't. :confused3 It really annoyed me!

Just watched the Olivander's video - what a cool show. I didn't know they did that. Still haven't made it to HP, but hope to in the next year. I'll have to remember to go see it in person.

Your brothers are a hoot. Enjoyed the video leaving MK as well.

Kristi

I rode the Trolley in the Sky for the first time on my last visit, and I was very happy about all of the pictures that I was able to get.

I agree about the Cat in the Hat. It's like a dark ride on crack. :lmao:

Ollivander's is fun, just don't wait in a long line for it. :thumbsup2
