Feeling Hot Hot Hot! The Rain Curse is Broken! Two Weeks of Fun in the Sun! COMPLETE

I am sorry it rained on your hike! I don't think I would like hiking in the rain either. The pics sure are lovely though.

I can't believe you don't like the country bears, they are so bad that they are good. I love a cheesy Disney attraction.

All caught up!!! I prefer the Hiking in Disney:rotfl2:The scenery i gorgeous though !!! But I will leave the photography to you and Hike in Disney!!!!!:cloud9:

IWas it just me or did you also think that the Ariel in your parade looked rather scary??? Yikes!

I thought the same thing. Very scary. I don't think they are as "careful" in selecting their Princesses as they used to be.

Lessa, great pictures -- what a view. Sorry the rain prevented you from finishing the hike. Why didn't Maria hike with you?

I do not think I have ever heard of a Marmot -- they are cute little guys (or gals).

And I also agree that the lyrics to the Country Bear's songs are rather inappropriate for kids...good thing they don't usually catch them all. I've only been to the Country bear show once and don't plan on going back. It's not our cup of tea and we weren't a big fans. In fact the only reason we went in the first place was because my mom dragged us there as she remembered going to see that show the year Disney opened and she hadn't been back since.

I am surprised that the songs have remained the same in Country Bears all these years considering the PC world that we now live in.

 Yeah, she did have a bit of a crazy smile.

The rain was awful, I was so glad that I had worn my coat.

:rotfl: I don't mind cheesy most of the time but I find it difficult to sit through this show.

I agree, I have seen some very off looking princesses.

They are incapable of leaving Marcus alone and she had her monthly visitor. Wimp! That has never stopped me! :snooty:

They are super cute, we saw lots of them on the trip. Marcus liked to try and chase after them, he nearly killed us a few times when he wanted to go charging after them.

No kidding! One class has me reading 286 pages for Wednesday! Crazy! That is just one class!

Well, I have over an hour of homework each night because I'm reading 21 pages of a book each night (since I'm lazy to just get ahead and finish the book in a week :rolleyes1) Though most of the homework is easy now it's getting more and more, so... I'll be lucky to get on the DIS every so often. My re-happy will be gone :/ Well, I'll just sift through Disney pics that should help ;)

They changed the title because they didn't think Americans would understand the name Philosopher's Stone even though it refers to a mythical object that has been talked about for centuries. It was not some random thing that she made up for the books. Here is a brief snippet from Wikipedia:

Here's the link if you want to read more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosopher's_stone

They also changed other words in the books for the American publication because they didn't think people were smart enough to understand.

example: Jumper turned into sweater

Just little stuff like that was changed which is not too big a deal but I think it is rather insulting to the American public and takes away from the fact that the characters are BRITISH and should speak as though they are BRITISH!

If you are really interested in all the changes between the original and American versions you can check out this page: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/books/differences.html

There are a few changes that I like. I think that the American artwork for the books is nicer and also the American books are larger (physical size and print) which makes them easier to read, especially when they started to get REALLY long.

Yeah, I heard about that. I mean, I actually just found out on Pottermore when she revealed some things about the story behind the Philosopher's Stone. I try to leave in British format since I feel now to give Sorcerer's Stone its proper name. Nicholas Flamel was indeed a Philosopher and Scientist and not the only one who was interested in the myth, but Sir Isaac Newton was mentioned as well... this is all starting to get me really fired up when I hear more about this... And it makes us Americans look like we are dumb, like we don't know how to read. If we don't understand some words, we can obviously figure it out. Urrggghhh :sad2: Not happy at all :headache:

Yeah, I think those are definitely some pluses I've found looking at other artwork for the Harry Potter series. I'm not a fan at all of the covers they have in England, it seems to patronize the books, make them look like they are for a younger audience, where in the US, they seem to stand in the more teen area and appeal to all ages. :thumbsup2

 So sorry but you know I had a couple extra grand just lying around so I figured why not buy a bunch of Disney paintings to decorate my house. ;)

I'll give you another grand for one! :teeth:

See my response to another poster above for my comments on Country Bears.

OH wow! I never noticed those, but I think it sticks with the theme, I must say, though it isn't appropriate, but I rarely even understand what they are saying. You are right about the sound system... needs updating, but I don't know why, I've just always loved the show :)

May 16th continued

After exiting Big Thunder Mountain we were overwhelmed by the crowds. It seemed as though everybody was in the Magic Kingdom that day. Where could we go to kill some time and get away from the crowds? Tom Sawyer Island!

Tom Sawyer Island may not be the most exciting attraction in the Magic Kingdom but it is a wonderful retreat when you want to take a break from the crowds in the rest of the park. It is also a great place to take the kids where they can run around and let loose. There is the fort to play in, caves to explore and at the top of the hill on the island there are picnic tables placed in the shade so you can even bring your lunch or snack over to the island and enjoy a leisurely lunch in the peace and quiet. There are lots of benches located around the island and little secluded areas that even have rocking chairs to relax in.

We enjoyed our break on the island even though we did not get to enjoy a game of checkers in the fort like in 2007 as a breastfeeding mother was sitting at the checkers table. That was kinda annoying, not the fact that she was breastfeeding but the fact that she was occupying the checkers table when there were open benches all over the place. Why seat yourself at the game table and keep it from others when you are not going to use it? Perhaps she was oblivious to the fact that she was at a checkers table? Oh well.

Back on "the mainland" we decided to wander around and see what interested us.

Should we have dinner here?

Nope!

What exactly is in this building?

We wandered into the Christmas Store when something in the Times Guide caught my attention...

It used to be a really nice old west stage show. It had dancing girls, corny jokes and a lot of silly fun. They would serve sandwiches. When the show closed they had a character danc thing in there for awhile. I know the toy story 2 characters were there but it also seems like maybe cowboy Goofy was the host. Somewhere I have pictures of it. We were not impressed with that version.

I wonder why they got rid of it? Seems to me that Magic Kingdom could use some more dining locations.

Oh, I'm thinking that maybe I have to check out Tom Sawyer's Island in October. I haven't been there in so long and I think maybe the first timer I'm traveling with might enjoy it.

Weird that the lady was sitting at the checkers table when there were plenty of seats around. I think people just don't pay attention or care really.

Tom Sawyer's Island... that really is a nice place to just get away from the crowds. It's really open and nobody is ever there and there is so much to look at and you can see a lot of attractions from there. I love the pictures you took of the Haunted Mansion and BTMRR :goodvibes And that's really strange the lady was sitting at the checkers table and not anywhere else, how does she NOT know people may want to use that? :confused3 Oh well, you have more time to do stuff like that. :D

Oh, the Diamond Horseshoe Revue restaurant! It was basically a version of the Golden Horseshoe Revue in Disneyland. I've never been inside either, but I've read about them. It was a dinner show like Hoop Dee Doo with a lot of the same theming. You can make reservations there, but it's only opened seasonally and I think during MNSSHP they have one of the dance parties there, but I'm not sure, haven't been to that either. This is just all stuff I've found through research. Too bad it isn't opened like the one in DL, because I think it is actually was a CS not a TS. :teeth:

Can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

Yep, it wasn't a big deal but we would have enjoyed using the checkers table but I certainly wasn't going to go up and ask here to move. :rotfl: It just seemed rather thoughtless of her to be sitting there when there were other options. Kinda like people who occupy a table in a counter service restaurant for ages after they have finished eating even though the place is packed and there are others with food looking for somewhere to sit. Just thoughtlessness.

It is too bad that it is not open anymore, sounds like a fun place to eat!

I have visited Tom Sawyer's Island too !!I agree it is a great place to take a little break and the ride over is fun !!

We have never been to Tom Sawyer's Island, not even when the kids were little. :confused3 Therefore, I enjoyed your photos.

That was one ugly tattoo!

i really want to go to Tom Sawyer's island next time. i think James and Maya would like it.

I :lovestruc target! The grocery selection isn't too extensive, but there are a lot of items that beat the regular prices at our grocery store too. And the markdown schedule is easy to predict, so its not uncommon to get things at 75% off!

I learned the hard way that i do not like the MK on Monday's. The crowd always seems thicker than any other day of the week there. Guess its typically the first place people go after driving in.

your hikes are beautiful- although i'm not sure you'd get me on them with all the bears and snakes around.

and i just did the links to catch up- so sorry if this has been answered- but what is a marmot?
