Feeling a little frustrated....

DH and I have reservations for a studio at AKV for 8 nights in early to mid December. Now our teenaged grandson is able to go with us so I thought I'd try to change our reservation to a 1 bedroom villa. Of course there is nothing available, so I have the 1 bedroom villa on wait list. My frustration comes from seeing that the 1 bedroom villa is available through CRO but not through DVC even though AKV is 100% declared now. It really frustrates me that DVC members do not have access for units that are available using points but they can be rented through CRO for cash, especially when we're still a few months out! :confused3. Now all i can do is hope for some wait list pixie dust! pixiedust: I know this is an old DVC complaint expressed by others before but I just had to stand on my soap box and vent!

That is frustrating. My understanding, though, is that there will always be a portion of total resort inventory held back for both refurbs/problems and a portion allotted to CRO. Also, when people trade out their AKV points to stay out of system, or even at another DVC resort, that leaves open inventory.

December is really busy, as we know due to low points before the holidays, but I surely hope your waitlist comes through.

60 days out before any given date any rooms that come available can also be given to cash reservations.

Many report that Disney takes the inventory to help owners with their dues but IMO Disney does what makes money for Disney. If they really cared about owners, they would pull inventory back to fill owners waitlists.

I put in a waitlist for an AKV Kidani studio for November 21 to 25 about a week ago and it came through in less than 24 hours. 3 of the 4 nights were available when I put the waitlist in, the third night was missing and I didn't want to have to move. Good Luck!

Remember, DVD owns a certain portion of the resort. So, some of those villas are "technically" another owner offerng them up. It'd be like you or me booking and then renting it out

Also, members who trade out, give those rooms to DVD to sell so they can recoup the money for trades. As frustrating it can be, I just try to view it as another owner already having reserved those nights.

Hopefully, the waitlist will happen for you

Nearly all of what you see available for cash comes from members using points to cruise or for another non-DVC resort options.

Without the ability to send DVC rooms to DRC to rent for cash, DVC members would not be able to use their points for anything except a DVC resort or a trade via RCI or the LBVTC.

Those rooms you are seeing have already been booked by a member who opted to trade out.

Good luck with the waitlist - hope it comes through soon for you. I think it will.

pixiedust:for you!

Do you have 2 waitlists? I hope you get a 1 bedroom! You do have some time to get what you want!

There's no reason to be frustrated with the system. This happens not only because of the points DVD holds back but also undeclared but unsold points, breakage inventory and points traded for cash type exchanges. Bill mentioned the breakage inventory but it's not just 60 days out, they can anticipate it's availability and take it up to 11 months out.

If there's unreserved breakage inventory in CRO for December and a member has a waitlist, they should be pulling it back. Maybe that's where the night I was missing came from.

Possibly, it seems to have happened before but it isn't automatically available to be pulled back.

Agreed but breakage income is used to lower dues I believe. Without that income our dues could rise quicker.

Breakage income is capped, I think it's 2.5%. I don't have the paperwork handy but I'm thinking they usually hit that cap. If so, anything extra would go to DVD or DVCMC and anything lost would not affect members directly. Regardless, I'd rather see members get the units and lose the 2.5% if that were the choice unlike the exchange options where there has to be income to offset. Plus, there is a certain "cost" to the system having unused points floating around. IMO it makes good sense from all directions to reclaim unreserved breakage inventory and little to no sense to give members any other room in the cash pool.

As Bobbi alluded to, make sure you have two WL's to improve your chances. Honestly, this far out, I think you have a pretty good chance, even though it it 8 days. If 1BR is the most important factor, maybe WL at SSR or OKW to improve your chances.

There is so much to do at WDW during the holidays that you probably won't spend much time in the room anyway. The studio will probably be fine for the 3 of you. Good luck with your WL!

It's ok to be frustrated. I am too. Can't get what I want for this Nov/Dec trip ::yes::

For BWV for 2013, it was .12 per point.

By the rules, it's not supposed to be released until 60 days. There should not be a member sitting with a waitlist 4 months out when there are breakage rooms at CRO (we don't know if that happened in the OP's case).

Debbie, the POS gives them the option to anticipate breakage and take it early.

I agree and seriously doubt the rooms at CRO for early December are either from the % DVC owns for maintenance or from breakage - they are much, much more likely to be there due to a member trade. Those can't be pulled back.

Yes but if the breakage room has not been reserved by CRO, they should pull it back for a member on the waitlist. Just like under 60 days, members can still get the breakage rooms, otherwise no one could get a points reservation less than 60 days.

I agree, it's unlikely a breakage room.

I don't think there's any requirement they do so nor is it done automatically. It seems to have been done at times but it seems like we've only speculated this and I don't ever recall seeing a true documentation or even specific report that this was what happened.

I'm confused by your statement. Are you saying that you don't recall seeing any documentation that a villa has been 'recalled' from the breakage inventory within 60 days of the check-in date?
