5K last weekend - I started off running along with everyone else, then I wasn't! I have analyzed it over and over and I have no idea what went so horribly wrong! I honestly don't even know how I walked that slow! I thought I was prepared for this. I have been running my milage on schedule and doing everything right. I'm baffled and feel like quitting. HOWEVER, I am already paid for the Half in January so I must figure out what the hell happened and what to do to fix it.

I'm supposed to run tonight but I really don't want to! I guess this is where I just get back on the horse and move forward.

Thanks for listening.

I know it's discouraging, but hang in there! Sometimes runs just go wrong, even when you've done everything right. I've done a few half-marathons now, so I have totally been where you are. I'll have good days where I can cruise along for 10 miles like it's nothin', then have a bad day where I'm struggling to make it through 2 miles. This time it just happened to be on a race day. It's all part of the expirience. As long as the rest of your training is going well, don't let that one bad day throw you off. You can do it!:cheer2:

I can't say I've ever felt like totally quitting but I have had plenty of bad runs, a couple of bad races, and lots of days I just don't feel like getting out there and putting in the miles. The best remedy for a bad run is to get out and put in a good run, the best remedy for a bad race is to sign up for another one, learn from what went wrong, and run a better race. Not feeling like running, I've skipped runs here and there, but even when I really don't want to put in a run it is rare I get out and after a mile I am sorry I didn't skip it.

Sorry you are upset with your results, but you did finish.

Might be time to tack, re. sailing.

After walking my part of the W&D, second leg, I went out on the following Tuesday and tried to get in a nice walk and wound up being a little upset. Could not go any faster than a 13:00mm pace. Knew legs were still tight since my pace during W&D was fastest I have done, 9:34mm, but none the less as I said it was upsetting. I walked with DW on Thursday and then decided to go out Sunday at 6:30pm for a short walk. Took me 4.5 miles to get into the groove. Decided to keep on going and wound up walking 13.2 miles with a 11:50mm pace and I didn't even intend to do 8 miles!

My point is that maybe you should go out and WALK knowing that it is not your running training but that you will at least be getting in some miles. Let your body warm up and I bet you will start to feel your mojo returning and in no time the running joy will be back and so will the speed.

Good luck.:thumbsup2

Sometimes when I had a bad run or walk, I shake it up with new music and perhaps a different route.

I also try to work some run strenghtening exercises into the next few runs to go back to the basics.

But you should NOT give up. :)

I'm hoping that you've been out and putting in those steps by now. I know you were disappointed. Keep working at your half goal. I also know that you will be loving that event.

I did get back out there on Monday and was miserable! I am running again tonight. I'm adjusting my R/W to :30/1:00. I am having issues with numbness in my feet again and also what feels to me, in my non-medical background, a torn or strained muscle on the inner part of the bottom part of my leg. I am 90% sure it is not shin splints. It used to only hurt after running now it hurts all the time and it hurts worse when I pick it up off of the ground. (Like when I'm walking and put down the other foot and raise that one off of the ground it hurts most when it is in the air.) Odd. It feels ok today but since I'm going "running" tonight I'm sure it will be extremely sore again for the next couple of days.

Anyway, I have an appointment with a sports medicine doctor next Tuesday. Hopefully I will have some answers.

And I was diagnosed with Hypothroidism today and read that peripheral neuropathy is a sign of it. That could explain the numbness, maybe.

I'm excited to get all of my running parts fixed. lol

Thanks all. I will be out there tonight. I have 2 months and 13 days before we leave for Disney so I need to keep at it.

I'm sorry to hear that happened. Everyone has bad runs, I hope that with the new knowledge you gained about some of your troubles you can pick up where you left off and move on from there. Just try to keep to your running schedule and don't give up.

I've had plenty of bad runs and days where I said I'm not going to run. I wish you the best!

Ok so I went 5 miles yesterday and felt like I could go further. I did :30/1:30 then ran the last .25 miles. Wow I was so happy when I finished and still had some power in me. The pain in my leg was minimal but the numbness was there but the walk breaks kept it managable.

Fantastic :thumbsup2

Don't rush things and more happy days will be the result..

It sounds like things are at least starting to get back to normal. As everyone else has said, we all have bad runs. Some worse than others.
