I have grown use to explaning to just about everyone who asks me "Why did you buy a timeshare at Disney? Dont you get sick of it?" but still have to laugh when asked. It makes me feel like a travel agent when I explain to them that "No we dont goto the WDW parks everyday during our stay, Yes there is 300+ things to do other than WDW parks in and around Orlando. Yes my accomadation/resort selection is sooooo much better then the Peabody on International Drive. So on and So on..........."

Like I said, It just amuses me how I explain to just about anyone who askes me why I bought a "Disney" timehsare. Just figured I'd ask about some of your answers to amusing questions about your purchases.

If it's a guy, I just ask them why they watch football games every week. After all, once you've seen a game or two, they are all the same and they always repeat the unusually good parts on the 10 o'clock news anyway!

For some reason, none of the women I know has ever asked me that question :teeth:

I've felt this way even BEFORE we purchased DVC.....everyone asks me all the time, "why Disney every year?" What baffles them even more is DBF and I are NOT married and don't have kids!

Do I feel like a Disney Travel Agent? Absolutely, and now we can add DVC salesperson to that title too!

I wrote an essay in a Creative Writing Autobiography class about why I go every year a couple of years ago. Now when somebody asks me "Why Disney every year?" I dig it out and hand it to them!

This is so funny!! I have to tell a story.

My parents, esp. my father, gave me a REALLY hard time when I bought an OKW resale in 2000. Timeshares are a rip off, maintenance fees are rediculous, blah blah blah. I finally had to tell them we made the decision right for us, and tough luck if they don't like it. They just didn't get it.

My father goes to an insurance convention every summer, and this summer, it was in Orlando - I found out about it a year or so before, and told my parents I'd put them up in OKW for their conference, they could save on hotel money, much nicer than a hotel room, full kitchen, etc.

And in order to make sure they had a good time, I put together about a 15 page document that explained EXACTLY where to go, what to do (parking, room layouts, the best restaurants, where grocery stores were, etc). VERY comprehensive.

The day they checked in, I called them to make sure everything was OK. As everyone knows, it's always possible to have minor problems with a room, so I wanted to be sure they were fine with the room.

THEY ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! When I called, my father had me explain the entire process of DVC and how it worked. He has so many questions, I told him he should take a tour; they could answer any questions he had.

So they did; I got a call a couple days later from them. My husband answered the phone, and my father asked for the travel agent (that would be me!). Very funny.

As it turns out, they like OKW so much, they actually purchased on site while they were there. Originally planning on buying at Vero Beach, I faxed them over a 3 page letter that explained about buying where you want to stay the most, 7 month vs. 11 month booking window, etc. They want to stay at OKW, but they ended up buying at BCV. Didn't have the patience to wait for a good resale, and they were able to buy and finance through Disney.

So, I got my $200 referral, and got my parents off my back for buying a timeshare! They're treating us to a week family vacation with them next May! Their plan is to go each year with a different kid and their family (I have a brother and a sister, both with kids), so they can share WDW with their grandchildren.

But first, they have a trip scheduled just for themselves just after Thanksgiving.

We didn't have a lot of money when were were growing up; vacations were always spent at the grandparents, or occasionally we'd go with him to the summer insurance conference. We'd always run around doing stuff while he was in meetings.

Now with DVC, he'll be able to go to WDW and run around and do things himself, instead of hearing about them afterwards.

I'm so glad I could share DVC with my parents!!! They certainly deserve to have some good times now that they're retired!

That's a great story! Thanks for sharing it with us. :) :) :)

While my story is a bit different from most, I still find it interesting that people ask me why I bought DVC when:

1. I live in Orlando
2. I resell all timeshare properties and Disney is one of the most expensive.

Those questions are most frequently asked by someone new to timeshares who hasn't investigated DVC.
While I tell them DVC is NOT for them if they are buying a timeshare to trade, it IS for them if they are buying a timeshare to come to Orlando and go to Disney World. It usually separates the serious Disney lovers from the timeshare travelers.

Great question!

All the best,
Shontell

I don't have too many ask about why we bought anymore. They probably don't want to bring it up becasue I will talk their heads off about it. The couple that commented about it the most was my sister and bil. But we took them to WDW on our trip in May and stayed in a GV at OKW. (I know, Not Fair!) They bought before the end of the week. Now that they have bought, everyone in the family sees it as a smart purchase.:D

Funny. For me, the most difficult part about explaining the DVC is the fact that it is ON Disney property. I don't know why some people cannot understand that concept.
