We will be visiting Disney to stay at AKL, with our daughter (14 months), in January. Does anyone know how easy it is to aquire food for a baby in resorts/parks?

Also will we be able to purchase diapers at resorts? we are travelling from the UK and I don't want to fill my suitcase with them!!!!!

Any help would be much appreciated!!!! :)

I don't remember seeing much of a selection of baby food and diapers at the resort. You may want to take Tiffany Towne Car from the airport. They will allow you to stop for groceries at one of the chain supermarkets and you can stock up there/

The resort stores do carry baby supplies (not a lot, but they do have them). If you are staying at a resort that is also a vacation club property the selection is a little better (Wilderness Lodge, Yacht and Beach Club, Boardwalk, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs). If you don't want to go to the grocery store (as suggested by the other poster) you could also go to Downtown Disney and walk across the street to the Hess gas station, while not a huge offering, they have more than the resorts do).

As far as the parks go, each park has a Baby care center which is nice to go to to relax for a little while with them. Here is the info on those locations (where they are located and what they offer):

Animal Kingdom- Located behind Creature Comforts in Discover Island.
MGM- Guest Services Building
Epcot-Next to the Odyssey Center and Epcot First Aid
Magic Kingdom-Behind Casey's Corner on Main Street

Baby Care services are facilities for guests to feed, change and nurse their children. There are highchairs, nursing rooms, changing tables, and a microwave to heat bottles and food. Guests can also purchase formula (no milk), bottles, and pacifiers, cold and allergy medications and children's undergarments, t-shirts and baseball caps. Baby Care Centers are also the central locations for lost children. No babysitting services available.

Hours: park open until park close except Epcot whose hours are 8:30am-9pm

I believe that many (if not all) stores have items (at least diapers) behind the counter. This is also true of aspirin, band-aids, etc. but you have to ask for it.

It's been a long time since the Baby Centers for us but I rember them being wonderful.

Don't forget that diapers, etc will be much more expensive at WDW. When my ds was 5 months, we brought diapers..but bought his food ...jar baby food(except formula...we brought that too) Think...if you bring diapers, it will be that much more room for souvinears on the way back :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That's the way I looked at it.... :rotfl:

There are also delivery services like GardenGrocer.com that carry baby supplies and will deliver to your resort. There is a minimum order, but it may be worth it for the conveience.

You could use Wegoshop.com. They shop for you at whatever grocery store you want and deliver it for a small fee. I think I read from another post that there is a super walmart in the area. If so that would be the cheapest place for diapers and babyfood. We are considering using them for our trip in Jan.

Another option would be to place an order with www.netgrocer.com and have it delivered to your resort. They carry a full line of baby food, diapers, etc. Just have it delivered to yourself C/O Your Resort and put your arrival date as a notation. They'll hold the package at bell services until you arrive. Hope that helps! :earsgirl:

If you're renting a car for your visit, just stop at a store on the way. If not, can you ship a package to your resort before your trip? Then you'd know that you have all of your baby's fave things already waiting for him :goodvibes

I'm just curious what type of food you are asking about. What type of food does your child normally eat? By 14 months, my boys only wanted what was on my plate :goodvibes

There's macaroni and cheese all over WDW, especially at the buffets. Actually buffets may be your best bet because you can pick out the things you know your child will eat, and at 14 months, its free for the baby! :cool1:

That's what I was thinking too. By 9-10 months my boys were eating what I was. You can easily feed a 14 month old from the children's menu and your plate. Chicken tenders, mac & cheese, yogurt, milk, pasta, and breakfast is easy as babies usually love pancakes, eggs, bananas. Mine ate hamburger at that age also. Buffets would provide a wider choice too, including veggies.

Thanks so much everyone for all your advice. This is my first time on this site and I can't believe how helpful you all are!!!
I'm travelling from the uk, so space in the case is limited and I know I can't bring food etc into the country!
I think you're right the buffets are probably the best bet, what with a VERY fussy eater and my pregnancy cravings i'm sure that we'll manage to suit us both!

I cannot say enough good things about the Baby Care Centers. Out daughter was 5mo when we took her this past September and these places are amazing!

Rather than renting a car or car service (unless you already had plans on it), I'd look into a grocery delivery place to get you the supplies you need. It would be really disappointing if you got there and the selection was so limited that you had trouble getting everything you needed. I'd imagine that the cost would be much less than a car service or taxi to take you to the grocery store.

You may also want to visit the Family Forum here on the DIS to ask for some advice. They were incredibly helpful when I was planning our last trip.

GOOD LUCK!
